I think they are influenced by the history of slipping when it matters, last year case in point. They seem they fail to recognise the added depth, great additions and the fact that Arteta and a decent group of young players are a year wiser. TBH if Arsenal keep playing like this and don’t win the Prem because City and Liverpool don’t slip up and grind out 1 or 2 goal wins for the rest of this term….I will still be relatively happy. What we’ve seen from Arsenal since the break is frankly astonishing.
The difference between Liverpool and Arsenal in goals conceded is just 2 despite the huge gap in xG conceded. That's the difference what a quality goalkeeper can make.
I feel like the system plays a big part Klopp's system takes more risks and is more faster and direct and does not control the game as much Arteta's system is much more similar to Pep's as a result Liverpool creates the most xg in open play and scored most goals in open play think these numbers have gone down a bit though recently due to no Trent,Salah,Jota,Nunez etc but defensive xg is worse than Man city and Arsenal Arsenal are the best at this atm and seemed to have sorted out their attack in 2024 before that they were scoring but not scoring as much as man city and Liverpool they need to go to dubai everyseason lol seemed to work wonders for them
Uhhh you think Raya isn't a quality goalkeeper? Half the goals we have given up have been flukes or momentary defensive blunders. Meanwhile Allison handed Arsenal two goals and gave Saka the rebound on the other...
Well, actually in 10 last seasons of EPL the winner didn't have the lowest XGa 2 times. Last being the Liverpool in 19/20 (other - Leicester in 15/16).

It’s so good to be an Arsenal fan right now. We may not win the league this season, even though I think we will, but we are going nowhere and will be challenging for trophies for the next 5 years at least
A couple of serious injuries for key players like Saliba last season and that’s the end, you couldn’t compete with the likes of City. Let’s face it, Arsenal are quite lucky with injuries this season and that’s why you’re still in the race with Liverpool and City. And even then you’re not at the top and you’re still to face City and Spurs away. I don’t think it all ends with Arsenal win the Title unless both Liverpool and City disintegrate at some point between now and the end of the season.
@@pashab.4048how Arsenal are lucky with injuries when they have Partey, Tomiyasu, Timber injured for months.. and Jesus & Zinchenko constantly injured. They have Jorginho, Kiwior amd Trossard who are not starters constantly start for them recently. Oh, so last season Arsenal had Saliba injured towards the end of last season, so aren’t they unlucky? All team are the same and injuries are part of the game. Liverpool and City both lost to Arsenal this season. Arsenal are third currently because of the stinker period they had in December which is normal and it happens, even City had before that, and Liverpool will also go through that kind of period, its just a matter of time. Talking about fixtures, Liverpool and City had a couple of hard fixtures with Liverpool face City and Everton away, the second last game they have to travel to Villa. City also have to face Spurs away from home which is their bogey team and they have to face Arsenal. So its goes many ways
@@pashab.4048it’s funny that Arsenal are lucky with no injuries, but we hardly hear the same when it’s Liverpool or City being injury free and getting 90 plus points. Here’s the reality. When Arsenal are fit and firing they are one of the best teams in the world. When they aren’t fit they will struggle to perform consistently well, and win games decisively. That’s true for any team. Rather than say you hope Arsenal get injured, rather admit that Arsenal are really good and you don’t want them to win anything.
@@pashab.4048it’s not that we’ve been lucky with injuries this season but more that we’ve strengthened in the positions that have cost us in previous seasons. 21-22 we missed out on top 4 after injuries to Partey, Tomiyasu, Tierney, and White. 22-23 we missed out on the title after injuries to Saliba, Tomiyasu, Partey, and Jesus for a long period. This season Rice and Jorginho have made us less affected by missing Partey. Havertz and Trossard have kept us at the level with Jesus being out most of the season. Kiwior, 4th choice for the LB position, has deputized ably while Timber has been ruled out for the season and Tomiyasu and Zinchenko have been missing for large periods. We have had many matchday squads with the numbers on the bench being made up by youngsters no one has ever heard of. It should be said though, no team can expect to maintain their level when their key pillars are injured for significant portions of the season (apart from maybe City). Liverpool just about made top 4 in 21-22 when VVD was out for 9 months with an ACL. Some players are more replaceable than others, of course, but pretty much any team is a few injuries from having to change their expectations at any given time,
Enjoyed the video as ever, Adam and I think your points about how well they adapt to each game are excellent. But… xG / xGA is a really bad stat to support your argument. 1) you say it’s borne out in the number of goals conceded but the graphic you put up shows that’s not true - Liverpool concede greater xGA than City but have conceded fewer goals. 2) in the 2019/20 season you reference Liverpool’s xGA was actually higher than City’s (39.57 vs 37 according to understat). And 3) Arsenal are currently massively over performing on their xG (31 goals from an xG of 19 since the start of the year).
On your first two points, XGA tells you largely about the outfield players ability to limit chances, XGA vs GoalsConceded tells you about the goalkeepers ability to stop shots. Allison is a far superior shot stopper to Ederson/Raya.
OK, in the case of this one I might be biased as a Gooner, but I've only recently started watching your videos, and learning about the tactical side of things has added a new dimension to my enjoyment of the game, thank you.
As an arsenal fan, although we are flying now,i recognize the unlikeliness of maintaining this till the end of the season...but that analysis of last 5 or 6 epl champions was very very compelling...could it actually happen...wow
Well doon. There is a quote, which may have originated from former coach Bear Bryant of the National "Football" League in the US: "Offense wins games; defense wins championships." [Update: I read some more comments; apparently that saying is not unique to the NFL] There was a similar statistic and effect in the NBA (US again) when the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan dominated the league: I noticed that, while most games had typical scores somewhere around 110-112 ± a dozen points or so, when teams played Chicago they were often held to the low 90s or even high 80s in points per game.
In the bundesliga last season RB Leipzig had the lowest xG allowed but finished third because their goals prevented were negative and they were third in xG for. So it takes more than just having the best defense. You need to attack well too!
Thank you Adam. That just blew my mind. You're a genius and I'm now convinced Arsenal can and should win the Premier League this season (and still be criticised by mainstream media pundits).
Brilliant analysis, Adam. You should offer classes to the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Rio F. Also love your hair on fire presentation style. Keep up the great work!
Interesting. One thing stood out to me from all the xG conceded talk. Clearly we are limiting the chances of other teams to have "good chances". This masks whether or not our current GK is effective or not. I'm not saying Raya is or isn't better than Ramsdale but I think a huge part of the debate is because Ramsdale had more to do last year than Raya this year). Also, despite the huge difference in xG conceded between Liverpool and Arsenal, GA difference is only 2. This probably showcases how good Alisson really is.
Going with your logic.. why the would this matter? Raya vs ramsdale that is. For the record, Raya also has a better distribution which leads to more chances and goals. Since we are conceding less chances, wouldn’t you want the Raya advantage?
@@sowolesonaike1968 Fair point actually. If Raya vs Ramsdale is a goal security vs distribution tradeoff then we're doing exactly what we should given current context. Until we start facing teams that consistently can create more chances against us more often.
A large part of why we're so secure at the back and not giving any chances away is raya's distribution and calmness. Trust me, we are much better with him than Ramsdale. Who's unpredictable and erratic.
Second take - bang on. First take - but these defensive achievements are not the reason why we play Raya. Raya is much more busy and involved man. He really plays alongside other guys. Rams is probably better on the goal line particularly, but we play advanced football, we can't afford a liability of Gk who's not synchronised with the team's every move. I can see too many proves of Raya influencing build up. Also his cross claiming is a real superpower.
i'm convinced arsenal will not drop a single point in the premier league until the end of the season, maybe a draw away at city. the question is whether liverpool's zygotes can keep getting wins to stay ahead. think city will come third
I think they will drop few points here and there, currently confidence is high but pressure accumulated and few things going wrong can make things very challenging for a young squad that collapsed under pressure last year
Nah. It is almost impossible for a team to win out, especially in a 3 horse race. If one of the teams wins the remainder of their games, good for them. They would deserve the championship. But I firmly believe that the title race will have more twists and turns even after these next two HUGE games (City/Liverpool this weekend, Arsenal/City at the end of the month). As an Arsenal fan, I obviously hope we do enough. But points WILL be dropped in unexpected fashion by all three of these teams. The pressure of a 3 horse race is totally different. It's been a while since we've had a proper three team Championship race and I LOVE IT!!!!! Takes me back to my youth in the 70's and 80's when seemingly every year there were multiple teams in contention (even if Liverpool won most of them!!).
The points gap is not really a fair way of looking at teams with so many games to play because they haven't played the same teams. That obviously evens out at the end of the season. In the games between the sides, so far, Arsenal beat Manchester City and Liverpool at home and drew with Liverpool at Anfield and Manchester City drew with Liverpool at the Etihad. Ultimately, the best team always wins the league irrespective of what the losing managers say.
to highlight your point at 5:46: on the skysports interview after game with Odegaard, he made it clear when asked about those runs to the box that their goal is to fill out all spaces, so every player making a run goes to a spot based around where his teammates are going, so you fill every space so they are constantly looking at each other (and knowing each other's preferences) to make the proper move and fill the spaces
Very fair point that Arsenal totally outplayed Liverpool, though Liverpool do have a lot of injuries at the moment - they have done amazingly well against other teams but Arsenal simply had too much quality for them (making Adam's point). So the big question will be how Arsenal do against Man City. Can the pupil outsmart the master? So versatile now! One snag ... much lower XG than Man City and Liverpool but similar number of goals conceded, suggests the goalkeeper is a weakness. So David Raya hasn't been the answer. Was it really worth disrupting Ramsdale?
It's actually surprising to me that when it comes to actual goals conceded, Arsenal are only 2 better than Liverpool and 4 better than City. This is not much tbh and it's not crazy to think this could change with a slight blip in form or bad luck. Still think they are the best in the league overall so you could see them win the league with more goals conceded or less likely, lose it with the least goals conceded.
Gotta say - its not that arsenal stops good chances. ALL teams concede good chances. Arsenal restrict all those half chances that usually accumulate across games.
I don't know if Arsenal will win the league, the margins are very fine, but it can't be argued that Arteta has done a fantastic job considering where they were when he came in.
Miles in front we have 11 first team players injured won 1 cup sitting top of the league and conceded 2 more goals despite everyone thinking our defense isn’t good got robbed throughout the season even in the home game against arsenal now the all we have to do is win our games and we wi the league and I know we can do it
Come on, Arsenal have played quite a few bang average teams recently like Shef United and West Ham as both of their managers are totally clueless ... especially the dinosaur Moyes
My son is an Arsenal fan... he couldn't accept that Arteta had strengthened Arsenal this season before Christmas. As the saying goes: goals win matches; defences win titles.
But they ain't beating Porto. That's some humbling fact & reality check, right there. This winning stride by Arsenal still isn't consistent enough, and they need to ensure consistency, winning 100% in PL & UEFA Champions to keep their morale high, not slipping, no stupid injury, and only then they can lock the PL trophy.
Win the league or not we are performing we are back up there competing, this is just the beginning. We are The Arsenal and we are bringing back that fear factor.
And yet, despite a quite incredible run of results and performances, they're still 3rd with the 2 teams ahead of them dropping virtually no points. My money is on Citeh, would love it to be Arsenal, but they always have a poor couple of games in them, whilst Citeh give nothing away over the last 10~15 games every year.
Critics will also say things like, 'oh but they're 3rd lol'. Technically yes, but less that 3 points from the top, all it takes is one slip up from man City and Liverpool between now and end of season, and thats it arsenal win the league, provided ofcourse arsenal don't also slip up.
Arsenal had the numbers from the very start of the season, they were just incredibly unlucky that all five of their goal scoring forwards were choking on goals at the same time.
As good as arsenal are, the overall squad of Liverpool and Abu Dhabi are better. Abu Dhabi had Haaland and KDB out and still are hanging out at the top of the table. Ditto for Liverpool, Salah and Szoboslai were out for a decent period. Arsenal are one injury to Saka / Odegaard / Rice away from losing their rhythm
We've had our injuries as well. Yeah they are key players for us, no doubt and we're a little short in quality in our squad. But with luck, they aaa remain fit and we'll see what happens. 🤷♂

I have no idea why it's so hard to just acknowledge how good arsenal have become as pointed out by the presenter here
Ya it seems like ppl don't like arsenal at all unless you are an arsenal fan and idk why... because the vast majority of our players have been lovable over the years... except maybe xhaka lol
@@christopherbunce9724 People don't like arsenal because you have a victim mentality. People get sick of "why doesn't anyone like us wahhh"
@@BodOricOr maybe the so called victim mentality arose out of all the hate Arsenal keeps getting even when it is undeserved. Have you ever thought of that?
@BodOric lol guess maybe some ppl are like that... personally I find the majority just worrying about our own club and not really care if a chelsea or united fan like us... guess the answer is always relative though. Not as absolute as you would like to make it. Thanks for the insight I suppose though

Solid point mate
I’d love to see a video on how elite football staff prepare games as a team. It’d be a perspective rarely seen in mainstream media
Brilliant analysis as usual, particularly like the point about controlling games 👍🏻
Great vid. Love to know your theory on why pundits and other people don't give arsenal credit for their football...
The last 20 years...
Probably their squad and poor cup performances
I think they are influenced by the history of slipping when it matters, last year case in point. They seem they fail to recognise the added depth, great additions and the fact that Arteta and a decent group of young players are a year wiser. Couple this with the fact that City can go on a crazy run and destroy everything and Liverpool grinding results regardless of their form, you can understand why pundits are skeptical. I think we are better off being under the spot light but the next two games are pivotal to the league title for all three teams
It's because of Arteta. Nobody wants to see this young Spaniard in his first head coach job come into England and have success where other English Managers have failed. Notice it's always the English pundits who are harshest. Long story short, it's jealousy.
not sure about this theory, English pundits were excited and full of praise when Pepe took over City. If any they will be biased because of Saka and Rice@@therealking6202
Just remember; we did get it wrong once since New Year - Porto. Arsenal aren't infallible or unbeatable. We're not the finished article yet. The principles and many of the pieces are there though so when it is clicking it looks insane.
TBH if Arsenal keep playing like this and don’t win the Prem because City and Liverpool don’t slip up and grind out 1 or 2 goal wins for the rest of this term….I will still be relatively happy. What we’ve seen from Arsenal since the break is frankly astonishing.
Well either Lpool or City will slip up as the play each other next... we just have to be ready to take advantage
@@Sdrawkcab_miideally a draw
@Briff100 *IF* they draw and we can get a win at the etihad, I think we'd go top and then it's a straight race COYG
@@patrick7381 ofc I think Raya is a good gk but I think Allison is still a better shot-stopper from those two
XG thing is not about a goalkeeper making saves so Raya in this case is irrelevant
Well, actually in 10 last seasons of EPL the winner didn't have the lowest XGa 2 times. Last being the Liverpool in 19/20 (other - Leicester in 15/16).
This channel is absolutely underrated , quality breakdown and tactical analysis ❤ keep up the great work brother much love from the Gunners

Some players are more replaceable than others, of course, but pretty much any team is a few injuries from having to change their expectations at any given time,
@@laislabonitaslow tf down. Best in the world? No. Best in epl yes

Beautiful Analysis 🔥🔥🔥🔥 COYG. Playing the Best Football in the league. Long May it continue. God Bless Arteta and the players.
Man’s quoted thom yorke and Brian butterfield in the same football analysis video. A new kind of British genius
Damn - even Raya's average possession was in front of the penalty area. That's crazy
Class video mate! Really enjoyed
Great vid. Glad somebody called the media out for not giving Arsenal the credit for how they make other teams look ordinary

Thanks for this. Getting sick as well of the downplaying.
As an arsenal fan, although we are flying now,i recognize the unlikeliness of maintaining this till the end of the season...but that analysis of last 5 or 6 epl champions was very very compelling...could it actually happen...wow
another top video! thanks for allowing us to enjoy our gunners even more coyg!
not to be a stickler but you highlighted ben white when you meant jorginho in the beggining of the goal demonstrations, great video though
Well doon.
There is a quote, which may have originated from former coach Bear Bryant of the National "Football" League in the US: "Offense wins games; defense wins championships." [Update: I read some more comments; apparently that saying is not unique to the NFL]
There was a similar statistic and effect in the NBA (US again) when the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan dominated the league: I noticed that, while most games had typical scores somewhere around 110-112 ± a dozen points or so, when teams played Chicago they were often held to the low 90s or even high 80s in points per game.
In the bundesliga last season RB Leipzig had the lowest xG allowed but finished third because their goals prevented were negative and they were third in xG for. So it takes more than just having the best defense. You need to attack well too!
Is Arsenal not attacking well?
@@richardj4473 recently, yes. They have great attacking form right now. However, they are third in overall xG this season behind City and Liverpool.
@@pattisonvidal3909 third best in XG and having the best XGA. Not a comparable situation to leipzig
THANK YOU!
The scary thing about this current Arsenal version is that they get better as they grow 😮
Arteta is doing a better job than Wenger ever did. It’s just a shame the league is so much harder to win these days.
5:10 you highlighted Ben White, while it was Jorginho who played the one two with Saka
Thank you Adam. That just blew my mind. You're a genius and I'm now convinced Arsenal can and should win the Premier League this season (and still be criticised by mainstream media pundits).
I was at the Cottage, they didn’t look that complete then
I can cherry pick a game that City lost. Every team loses. Sour grapes?😂
No, apparently, the 4 defeats they got were in 2023 😂.. because to them, the season started after their Dubai trip.
Brilliant analysis, Adam. You should offer classes to the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Rio F. Also love your hair on fire presentation style. Keep up the great work!
5:38 Kai with the toughhhhh goosie
Raya is the better goal keeper overall. Better distribution, better cross claiming, and better composture.
i'm convinced arsenal will not drop a single point in the premier league until the end of the season, maybe a draw away at city. the question is whether liverpool's zygotes can keep getting wins to stay ahead. think city will come third
Lol as a long term arsenal fans I refuse to believe though I’ll be happy if it happens but I think I’m just used to the team letting me down 😂
I think they will drop few points here and there, currently confidence is high but pressure accumulated and few things going wrong can make things very challenging for a young squad that collapsed under pressure last year
Lol Arsenal are not perfect e.g Porto 1:0 Arsenal
@@samkelorashuza5949it’s only halftime dude, result is played over 2 legs if you still don’t know,
We were still good bar Fulham and dropped 11 points in 15. We need to keep belief and focus. Missed chances weren't just bad luck
Brilliant video as always. Always wait to see what you say about Arsenal 👏
Gary Neville just watched this and still can’t understand the club’s direction. Rio sees the evidence here for arteta going to man u
A great video Adam - it’s the hope that kills you. Loved the Brian Butterfield reference 😂
The Special One once said - "attack wins you games, defence wins you trophies".
I heard it was Ferguson.
Interesting seeing arguments about which team is better when they’re separated by 2points.
I was thinking about this today
😂😂😂🎉
Your analysis is second to none.. something special is happening at arsenal ATM
to highlight your point at 5:46: on the skysports interview after game with Odegaard, he made it clear when asked about those runs to the box that their goal is to fill out all spaces, so every player making a run goes to a spot based around where his teammates are going, so you fill every space
so they are constantly looking at each other (and knowing each other's preferences) to make the proper move and fill the spaces
It’s made Liverpool v Man City next week very interesting. Time will tell.
Nice to hear someone being realistic and honest about arsenal for once. Gunners💪 haters gonna hate...
Great Analysis bro
I always enjoy your videos and analysis.
It's actually surprising to me that when it comes to actual goals conceded, Arsenal are only 2 better than Liverpool and 4 better than City. This is not much tbh and it's not crazy to think this could change with a slight blip in form or bad luck. Still think they are the best in the league overall so you could see them win the league with more goals conceded or less likely, lose it with the least goals conceded.
this year is Our year up arsenal
Well Arteta has good tactics but also has the best DMF in the world and the best defender in the world
10 attempts on target over the past 7 games is absolutely absurd
Gotta say - its not that arsenal stops good chances. ALL teams concede good chances. Arsenal restrict all those half chances that usually accumulate across games.
Adam: i know you guys don’t like XG so i wont talk about it
*proceeds to talk about XG the whole video*😂😂😂
I can't believe you're saying that Jamie The Most Negative Man I'm the World Carragher is wrong?! How dare you!
I don't know if Arsenal will win the league, the margins are very fine, but it can't be argued that Arteta has done a fantastic job considering where they were when he came in.
Loved the magazines a staple for years

Fine. I hope you break down the Liverpool vs Manchester City game. Would want to see that.

If we win the league this season, please hold a prayer for every team in Europe as we are signing a striker in the summer 😂

3:12 - What is Aresnal? That has to be a typo/misspelling.

Technically yes, but less that 3 points from the top, all it takes is one slip up from man City and Liverpool between now and end of season, and thats it arsenal win the league, provided ofcourse arsenal don't also slip up.
I didn't know you weren't a arsenal fan
Arsenal had the numbers from the very start of the season, they were just incredibly unlucky that all five of their goal scoring forwards were choking on goals at the same time.
Out of the 22 goals we conceded, 5 were bc of errors or own goal
As good as arsenal are, the overall squad of Liverpool and Abu Dhabi are better.
Abu Dhabi had Haaland and KDB out and still are hanging out at the top of the table. Ditto for Liverpool, Salah and Szoboslai were out for a decent period.
Arsenal are one injury to Saka / Odegaard / Rice away from losing their rhythm
We've had our injuries as well. Yeah they are key players for us, no doubt and we're a little short in quality in our squad. But with luck, they aaa remain fit and we'll see what happens. 🤷♂
