I started with Marty and found your channel through him, and it’s been such a journey diving deeper into music theory over the years. You’re an incredible teacher! I wish I could afford your lessons, but hopefully, one day I will. You really help musicians learn valuable skills for life, unlike other channels that just show off their legato. I believe the highest form of respect is changing someone's way of thinking, and you’ve definitely changed mine. This video offered more technique than many I’ve seen as a self-taught musician. I recently hit a roadblock due to my ADHD, which made it hard to concentrate, but I’m excited to be picking things back up now. Thank you so much for your guidance! I truly hope to find someone like you to inspire me to become a teacher someday too. You have a real gift!
@@AbductedByRobloxians thanks for this comment, it really means a lot to me when I hear folks get real value from these lessons. I’m happy to be helping!
I've played guitar for 50 years. This lesson is the most lucid and accessible guitar instruction that I have ever experienced. Well done Chris. It should get 1m views hopefully.
"Repair the relationships we left behind", you're a brilliant teacher! Such a nice way to phrase it, so easy to see and understand! Thanks for this, really inspiring!
Fantastic primer. I guarantee you there’s something in here that will light up a bulb in your head, no matter how far along in your guitar journey you are.
That's not a teacher, that's a show-off :) While every chord "could" be something different, why on earth would that be important for a student to know. Chord = notes Application = name
@@curiousguitarist He was 89 years old and knew he did not have a lot a time left so he crammed as much information as he could. He really knew his stuff and could write scores for entire orchestras. Jazz was his thing but he performed other styles to make a living. I met him about 15 years ago when he took a job where I also worked at. I spent about three years with him as a student but he was a good friend the whole time I knew him. He passed away in December 2023. He was Dale Norris and the lead guitar player for The Champs. You may know the band by their hit song "Tequila" released in I think 1957. He toured with people like Jerry Lee Lewis and had endless stories about the music scene of the time. His passing still weighs on me but I'm almost ready to dive into studies again.
A few viewers found a chord diagram error in this video yesterday. I've fixed the diagram and re-published this one. Thanks for your help! Enjoy!

Another great lesson Chris..!!! Thanks man.. Just about every single one of your lessons takes me to yet one more plateau.. 🙏🏻❤️
My pleasure, Joe! Hope all is well. Haven't seen you in a livestream for a bit.
Essential finger styles to learn would be great too. Also basic rythym tutorials
Great ideas, thanks Zardozian, I'll add them to my list.
Great stuff, love the shell voicings!
Yeah those are fun! You can get through just about any jazz chart with those. It's a good start~
Brilliant! simple but just what was needed, thanks mate :)

Great refresher and I may have connected some dots

@@MegaLochgelly you’ve got this!
Thanks great lesson. Do you have a chart available for all of these shapes?
TABs for all of these are here: patreon.com/chrissherland
If you know what makes a chord, you know most of them
TRUTH!!!
🙌🏻 8:29 :)
You sure make playing guitar seem possible
It totally is. Focused effort over time on solid goals will get you there!
That’s a cool idea as long as you use a root note can you use any combination of the 7 notes in the scale?
@@DavidMorley-i2x you can, combinations built in 3rds sound best 135 246 etc
@@curiousguitarist with a246 is that called a different chord or triad?
@ yes, that is the chord built off of the second degree of the major scale. Should be a minor triad
@@curiousguitarist thank you for the help and your time to do such 😊
