Come on New Zealand!!! We need to help these people. Our people. Not other nationalitys. So sad to see our Maori people suffering....And to all you" so called " kiwis who hate on the homeless, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

Per capita, Australia has a bigger homeless and housing crisis problem...

I spent many years living in my national capitol, and the "good people" who lived an worked downtown (near Parliament) got tired of sex workers plying their trade in that area. Their demands for police to crack down resulted in the sex workers simply moving into residential areas near the downtown. I came out to put out my trash one night and found a woman servicing her customer under my dining room window. Moving people out of areas in droves just plain misses the point - these are people being driven out, not mongrel dogs. Most urban ceters desperately need social housing, but not just "ghettos" where the poorest people are relegated. We need actual neighbourhoods where people of all socioeconomic levels can put down roots and feel at home. Give them hope and see what they do with it. There will always be people who cannot succeed in life because they are too damaged, but we cannot simply leave them behind. Sorry for the length of this comment. I just get so frustrated with how the most vulnerable among us are treated. New Zealand is one of the best places in the world to live, and it hurts my soul to see people struggling there to find housing.

Respect! Eight whole years of suffering and enduring on the streets. This makes me think; 'there are millionaires out there, and they are so greedy that they can't even contribute a cent to the homeless', money is indeed the root of all evil.

It's worse than that; we live in a society where the most vulnerable can't even have a tent and just be left alone- people have to call the police to harrass them and move them on. The level of entitlement is horrendous- some of these people would do well to spend a week on the streets of the bronx in America to see what a real homeless problem looks like.
Due to the rising cost of housing people are simply being left behind- if they can't afford the rent and are too ill to work, they're screwed. WINZ doesn't pay enough to cover housing and an individual's idiosyncratic costs, such as medical bills.
Lastly, being homeless is not a character flaw- it can happen to anyone. All it takes is a severe mental or physical illness, assault etc., with no support from friends or family. People who have fallen that low can't navigate life and end up on he streets.
Also with all thiis COVID stuff going on I'll wager that the number of displaced invididuals will rise sharply due to loss of businesses, jobs and other forms of income... time will tell...

They should do what there doing in South America and Africa building 3d print homes which is really a roof over your head with a concrete slab but they can build them for $4000 to $10000 couple of days to print ....honestly we can stop homelessness put some land aside and built 3d print homes .
