I had to! Your channel has been so helpful for me doing things with my electronic drum kit and I used the slate drum kit download that you sell. I’m still trying to figure out how to get those sounds in my triggers but it’s coming along.
You had that kit sounding killer at that gig! So cool, I been thinking of doing this for awhile I got an old kit laying around that would work perfect, thanks for sharing!
I converted my kit a few years ago. Best thing I ever did. Can play anytime, dial in any sound. Great for streaming and making videos, pretty much stays in my drum room. I now also have an acoustic kit for those times when I need to gig or just make lots of noise. LOL Got my sub. Looking forward to checking out more videos.
That’s awesome! I wish I could leave mine set up all the time but I go back and forth using my acoustic kit and converted E-kit. It’s fun to use for gigs where volume is an issue. Makes it easier to create videos with good quality audio too.
I did the same thing with a Tama kit, I used extreme drum triggers, they are internal, excellent triggering, and built like a tank. Your kit came out excellent! Great job and great video! Just subscribed
Thank you so much! I wish I could have done internal triggers but I needed something easier to switch back and forth from electric to acoustic. Would love to see your kit.
@thechristinedemeo The triggers I got were single zone, not to expensive either, like 50 bucks each,as I have a lemon snare, so I just needed single zone triggers for the toms and kick, I split all the toms, and assigned the rims to cymbals, I have a td 17 ,with 7 cymbals thanks to the splitters.i think u could just slide the internal triggers down enough so they wouldn't trigger if u wanted to put regular heads on it.
As you said in the video, it seems so easy that feels a bit wrong :D Congrats for the video, thinking of doing the conversion myself as well and it motivates me. And nice groovy drumming as well, keep it up! Cheers
Good stuff. I did a kit bash of a Simmons 1250D, Roland TD50x digital expansion kit, and a converted kick drum. Always good to see kits with personal touches.
@@thechristinedemeo definitely it’s serving me very well. I don’t plan on ever using acoustic again so the cost of expansion kit was well worth it. Playing drums is a form of expression but I also feel the drum set up is also art and expression. Enjoy your kit! Careful about the bug you might just keep adding or customizing hahaha
Wow, that was cooool… I didn’t even know that was a “thing” …(drum conversion).. but it is! And how great is that? Able look like traditional drums but with the ability to tweak sounds and be able to lower volume for smaller/ quieter venues! Awesome…
It’s so much better playing an e-kit in certain venues rather than an acoustic kit. I wish more bands would jump on board because acoustic kits are just too much for most venues.
Did something similar with 2 Simmons e-kits and a Pearl SMX Aquamarine Fade...bassist had 1 ekit then bought another (still had the original box and styrofoam on CL....a few hours and not much of a mess later, we managed to remove the vent ports on all the shells to feed the cables through...used part of the e-kit rack to mount both modules and 3 drum pads as "rotos" tuned in and cranked up it did ok but the surface of the heads with the pads pressed against em by the styrofoam made for an unexpectedly quick rebound...cranking the volume automatically reduced the desire to "attack" the kit...once removed after my superhoops and ebony pinstripes arrived I'd never desire to re-install those pads but it was affordable and mixed well (we didn't have a snake, mics, stands etc). Cheers!!
@@thechristinedemeo once on my mix page, it's the 1st image of the video you'll see the bassist has a red bass...u gotta zoom in to see the trigger pads as "rotos" but u can clearly see the black rings (cymbal triggers) and if u give it a listen u can tell its not acoustic...fun while it lasted...in the grid of images u can see everything back to acoustic when we recorded at Sugarhill studio in Houston...was a great sounding kit but the bassist quit to have a stable home life so I traded the kit for a Triumph Thunderbird triple. Sold the bike for another that I ended up trading in on a truck that the clutch went out on. Sold the truck for a custom Rockett Works. GC ins paid off the loan bc it was damaged during shipping...pawned the kit for dwn pmnt on my 3rd Harley (2nd big-twin) and got into a crash when an 80yo blew a red and forced me out of my lane...HDs don't jump curbs. Years later I got me a Pearl Maple DLX (reference GnR 1988. Ritz) Steven's was Black, mine is my birthstone Emerald Green. Mic sux but I'll post up one day. Cheers!!
Nice video. Im wanting to do exactly that with the roland triggers and most of there TD series module settings for using there triggers. You sounded great.
I am so doing this. I don’t have the ekit I only she a percussion set. So I would have to electronic cymbals plus the module to plug it into but I feel like it will be worth it. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great video, many thanks. I'm considering doing a conversion myself, to enable the playing of an electronic kit with acoustic kit ergonomics. Before I go ahead, can I ask, if you play the converted kit without amplification (headphone or speaker), what level of volume does striking the heads have? The same as mesh heads on the electronic kit? or louder? because of the natural acoustics of the acoustic shells? If so, how much louder? This is important to me, because of my domestic situation, as I can't play the acoustic kit as much as I'd like do, as I have neighbours both sides and our houses here in the UK aren't as big as in the States! Thank you and look forward to watching more.
Hey! When I play a gig, I’m on y going through a PA, but when I’m at home I just plug into the back of the drum module with my headphones and jam out. I don’t think it’s really any louder than playing an E-kit in my experience. Either way your neighbors should be grateful that you’re trying to go this route vs purely acoustic 😂 I hope this was helpful! Good luck.
Great video Christine, this is a project I am currently in the midst of myself. Have/do you run the module through a VST in a DAW, because that can really elevate away from that "Electric" sound. Keep up the good work! Cheers
Yes I have! I actually will use EZ Drummer sometimes if I have enough space on stage. Mainly I just use the module for live performances though. Good luck on your conversion. I bet it will be awesome.😎
I did not use the cable snake for the new triggers I bought. I used the cables the triggers came with and plugged that into the td-27 module. I did however use the cable snake on the other things such as the snare and cymbals. Hope that clears things up!
I've been running a similar hybrid setup with my Breakbeats kit for a couple years now too. For the 16" kick head, did you just use the regular 16" power ply tom head and have it work? The only "kick" hoop variant I see starts at 18"
So...was you able to use the original cable "bundle" you use with the electronic TD-27KV2 ?? Did you have to do any type of set up so the drum brain would recognize the new triggers??
I did use the cables from my drum module, but only to connect my existing snare, hi hats, ride and cymbals. I used the cables that came with my triggers for the new drum triggers and I did have to go into my drum module and set them to the correct triggers that I had. Then I messed with the settings such as sensitivity… I hope that gives you clarity. 🤘🏽
Dumb question so when you convert the snare drum what do u do with the chain underneath the snare?…and please give a list of what you bought so I can do the same
Not a dumb question at all. I already had a Roland TD-27kv so I just used the snare and cymbals from that kit on my acoustic kit. I only bought 3mesh heads, and 3triggers for the kick, Tom, and floor Tom on my acoustic kit.
If you plan on never using the snare acoustically anymore you can get rid of the snare wires. otherwise you can leave them on it doesn't effect anything electronically. You can also just use the thow-off lever to have the wires loose. hope this helps
They have pads, but you have to use either a pad made out of rubber or a "silent cymbal" thingy which is just a very cymbals with ton of holes drilled in it with triggers
Wasn't expecting to hear a shout out when I watched this! 🙏 The conversion looks great and sounded great on the gig too! Congrats!

It's wild what Roland and DW(e) are charging for their full size kits when we can easily convert any kit for a fraction of the cost.
Yep! It’s honestly mind blowing what they charge for nice E-kits.
