- I'm going for a KFC today. You heard me, a KFC. I haven't had one of these in ages but I will also be comparing it to London's premier fried chicken restaurant in Fowl. Looking forward to this!

I literally just had my first KFC in two years last night and my verdict was: "Every two or three years I have a KFC to remind myself why I haven't had a KFC for two or three years."
That was a funny comment thank you
I prob have KFC and McDonalds once each per year, every single time I am disappointed , I just remember them being so much better decades ago.
I agree it is tempting, the wee craving, and then feeling disappointed and a bit ripped off. I agree with other comments it did taste a lot better 20 years ago, although maybe our taste buds have grown!
Not eaten a KFC in years. Thanks for the reminder as to why I've avoided going back for more! Fowl looks nice. Not sure if there are any of their restaurants up North. Wishing you a happy new year x
I’ve not eaten KFC for at least 15 years and it does not seem to have improved. We had to take our meal back to the restaurant as the chicken was still bleeding 🩸🐓☹️
A part of the problem with KFC is that they don't enforce any kind of quality control with their franchises. Consequently some are really dire, while others are just abysmal.
Unfortunately, I think you could be right
I had a part time job back in the 90s mystery shopping KFCs. Yhey cut costs and did away with the thorough checks they used to get, hence the lack of consistency in quality at franchises.
such as?
it's because they stopped exclusively employing black people back in the late 90s early 2000 ..... back then, chicken was cooked right and the gravy was on point....... going for fried chicken, I know I'm going my black side of my family
Yeah, the people we don't want in the UK.
I absolutely love the idea of a KFC but the actual experience is always so disappointing. It smells incredible and then you get a bit of grey sweaty meat which looks like it had a miserable life
And it did.
I agree with you Ben
It did battery farming should be banned, sadly we incourage the cruelty eating the crap .
Let’s just say, it didn’t die of old age? 😢
@@gillclapham9683 Sadly its needed, without it the price of chicken would go up and many families are already struggling with costs.
Fast food used to be cheap so it was understandable that it was a bit crap, but now it's crap and a bit pricey. I'd take some homemade sandwiches over KFC or McDonalds any day. Better quality and waaay cheaper.
That’s true, fast food was a bit crap but good enough to get you by. I bought 2 standard McDonalds meals a couple of weeks ago for just shy of £18 - used to cost between £10-12. At the higher price it just can’t be justified considering how crap it was.
No lie. My husband and I used to grab fast food once a week. Then dinner for 2 at Dairy Queen, 2 meals, an app and 2 ice-creams was $50. Haven’t been back!
Yeah, I have to say a nice cold sandwich with a bag of hot salty chips is an excellent combination 👌
I went to a College to do a course. There was catering, a company called Compass I think. They served the Muslim a portion of beans, that was his lunch every day! No attempt to provde something decent. I tried ' baked' potato and coleslaw. The potato was watery and the coleslaw tasted of engine oil. There was only coffee and tea machines, pretty awful. The cooking facilities provided at great expense were unused as a van delivered the food daily, it was put in to hot containers. Salad went in to cold contsiner
I just had a good butcher burgher today, for some reason it contained bacon. It was all very nice, tasty and good presentation, chips in a little badket. It was £15.00 with pot of tea .
I'm find is astonishing that Gary tries to reply to everyone. For a channel this size that is unheard of these days and is a really nice thing to do. I honestly don't know how Gary does it as it must so time consuming. I assume his son/cameraman helps with that ?. If the channel keeps growing there must come a point where that isn't possible anymore. Anyway, I wish Gary Eats continued success.
I'm finding it incredibly difficult to reply to everyone now and no he doesn't help as he doesn't have time. Thank you very much
@@GaryEats I'll admin the comments if you pay me in a lifelong supply of Zinger Tower Burger meals, Gary.
Thank you and I always want to keep it authentic, I will reply to less as time goes on as time doesn't permit as much now
About two weeks ago, I was a bit short on groceries and wondering what on earth daddy was going to cook, as my wife was still at work. Now I’m no slouch in the kitchen but I’d had a long day at work myself, so I turned around and asked them, a 7 year old and 9 year old, would they like KFC? Their response - “no, we don’t like it anymore”. I had to concede, they were right. Now, the point is, that if kids are refusing this, you know there’s something up.
Your little ones are spot on George!!
something has definitely changed in the last few years, it's just rubbish nowadays
I'm now wondering what you did get for tea?
Popeyes seems to be taking over from KFC
@@markhuitson we got a roast dinner
My last KFC meal was so disgusting that I actually binned it, and then wrote an email of complaint to their head office with a picture of the chicken. They sent back a standard generic email with an electronic £20 voucher. Welcome to the world of automated food. Cheers, mate!
Disappointing to hear, but not surprising
Same here. Gave my voucher to the bin.
I wrote a sternly worded email about their filthy Workington branch, absolutely disgusting, i even gave the staff a few words...I only got a £10 voucher!
Yea, same crappy experience with the KFC 'Care Squad'.... which should be properly branded as the 'We dont care squad'
Rubbish.
Love the chicken dancing Gary!! Hahaha...great vid as always my friend!
Just a bit offun, Connie
This is actually a very important review (I'm not saying they aren't usually) the reason being the big companies at the minute charge the earth, for things you can now make better at home. Even copying their product is easier to make better yourself, with tastier results.
Thank you, I'm glad someone understood the point I was trying to convey
my experience of KFC is that it varies a lot restaurant to restaurant, more so than any other fast food joint.
As many chains do to be fair
Gary I went to KFC mid December. I had the festive chicken burger. Absolutely disgusting really didn't work and I couldn't even take 2 bites of it. What a, waste of money. Anyone reading this please save your money and learn from my mistake. X
I went to one in Stevenage many years ago and the chicken was so greasy. Not very nice.
The best fried chicken I've ever tasted was in a service station/garage in Kentucky in 2000. Inside the building there was a shop that was selling fried chicken. Magic.
I agree, have had great meals and awful ones.
Came to say the same thing. Of all the fast food places I have found KFC to be the most inconsistent from branch to branch. I have a fairly new one near me now and it's actually made me like KFC again
Fowl every time. The biggest problem with KFC is the randomness of the food quality. If you are lucky and you get a good one, it is brilliant, but it doesn't happen very often.
I completely agree with you Dave, so hard with chains
They just can’t keep up consistent tasty food everytime anymore. I always remember as a kid growing up in the 90s it was so tasty almost every time
But I’m reading it’s also due to uk laws on salt and other things etc
They still don’t always cook the chicken correctly it’s sometimes Burnt or Dry
It’s annoying and just but worth the risk these days I find
It’s very branch specific as well. I used live near one that was consistently good. Moved away, my current local is consistently disgusting. Can’t think of any other chain with such variable consistency. That good branch, I sometimes saw them throw away chicken. The manager told me that was past its best. He was on top of it. It always had a queue.
Around 18 months - 2 years ago a new restaurant opened up close to Colchester football ground, at first it was good with generous portions, now the portion size has reduced to about the same size as everywhere else and it's quality is now very hit or miss , just like all the others...
Average chicken 7/8 weeks do 25 times …..bs. Do the math.
I don’t know if it’s a secret venture of yours, but you’re a cure for mental health Gary! Love watching your videos and your enthusiasm for food always makes me smile! Keep up the good work sir!
I've never known a chain with such variance in quality depending on which one you go to. I've had perfectly crisp, juicy fresh chicken at one KFC and inedible slop at another 10 miles away. Most other chains are far more consistent, for good or bad.
It's truly bizarre
Exactly 💯!!!
The McDonald's on Main Street in Franklin North Carolina, Was Consistently BAD. But It was conveniently located 6 blocks away. But one day I went there and ordered the Double Jalapeno Pepperjack Cheese with Bacon and the Chef handed it to me from the Driv thru and said, " You Are the first one to order one of these , that recipe Inspired Me, You Are Going To Enjoy This!!!". And Indeed I Did...
People cook KFC so the variance is down to the cooking, staff and overheads.
I have always liked a good Mushroom and Swiss Burger but Me I would elevate it by using a Variety of good Mushrooms 🍄🍄🍄 like Woodear and Shiitake Mushrooms and some El Yucateco Black Reserve Hot sauce and roasted garlic and Dukes Mayonnaise...
MAN ALIVE Gary! The McDonalds marketing team deserve an award for timing, at 2:40 two Maccy Hi-Viz guys bomb the background. 😂
That is very funny, Nick
It's like when i see asda employees doing shopping at my local tesco 😂 and my local tesco is more expensive than asda 💁
Even better than that. When I was watching, just as Gary got to talking about the price of the KFC and if it was value for money, my video cut to a McDonald's advert talking about their saver menu 😂
For those who do not know, "Chicken Tonight" is a brand of sauce intended to be added to chicken pieces in a frying pan, available in flavors such as Honey & Mustard, Country French and Thai Green Curry.
Initially launched on October 23, 1990 under Unilever's Ragú brand in the United States and Canada, it was launched in the United Kingdom under the Knorr brand in 1993, while the same year, Chicken Tonight made its way to Oceania under the Raguletto brand. As of 2015, Chicken Tonight is a standalone brand.
The associated advertising slogan is "I feel like Chicken Tonight". In one series of television ads, these words were sung by actors as they 'flapped' their arms in a movement similar to the dance "The Chicken"
Thank you for explaining to all those who do not understand the reference!
Used to cook it with pasta , minus the chicken , when as younger parents on a real budget . Only recently was told by my now 38 years oldest son ' mum we knew there was no chicken '
ruclips.net/video/2QBxG7koDTs/видео.html
On the overlap, they played the commercial that Ian Wright had done. Hilarious
Cheers I never knew that 🐔🐓
My local KFC is awful. Terrible customer service. Food is cold, over cooked chicken. Just yuk. You couldn't pay me to eat there.
That is not good to hear, Lisa
I had exactly the same experience in my last visit to KFC, only the chicken was undercooked, rather than overcooked. Won't be back!
I love how creative you are with your content. Not just go to one takeaway/restaurant and do a single review. Secondly, people love you for being you. Not over the top, not annoying, just a normal, down to earth guy doing his thing. God bless, and happy, and healthy, 2025 to you, your family and cameraman. ❤❤
Thank you so much. Happy NY!
Absolutely love Gary's videos. Been watching him since he started. Keep up the fantastic work 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Love your channel Gary! I live in Japan (Brit ex-pat)and KFC is literally another world away in comparison. It is rather slow for fast food as they cook it basically to order with great love and care but it is really delicious and reasonably priced! ❤ I think you and the superb Cameraman deserve a trip over here to sample thousands of amazing dishes.
I would love to visit and thank you Mark
I think I speak for everyone (even as a new viewer) when I say this guy is just binge worthy and a very humble guy ! Keep up your great content

Nice review Gary. KFC needs to patrol their franchises, as they vary on quality so much. They are not cheap either. As one reviewer has already said they only used to do the fried chicken and fries, and that was excellent. It’s like a fashion brand with a loyal following these days days.
KFC's problem is they are the most 'hit and miss' fast food place I've ever been to. Catch them on a good day it's decent enough (compared to McD/BK) - catch them on a bad day and they are terrible....they seem to be having many more bad days than good of late. The trouble is that an inconsistent offer will kill any fast food chain. Consistency needs to be one of their biggest selling points.
Agreed
You’re spot on. Ignoring the sides - which are universally terrible - the chicken is sometimes overcooked, undercooked, straight out of fryer or barely warm, sometimes obscenely fatty, other times dry as boot leather.
Absolutely agree had some really lovely KFC chicken.
And but the last one I had few weeks ago was horrible,
Ended up in the Bin .
That’s it I’m afraid with KFC .
So much so I actually emailed them telling how bad it was.
Are they franchise chains? If so, that would account for their inconsistent output
@@N17_Ruffneck I think they are, but the inconsistency is also apparent in the same stores
I'd like to wish Gary, his cameraman and all his subscribers a Happy New Year. Just waiting for a date for my operation now. Thank you to you all for your support with my Cerebral Palsy and Depression. Paul xxx.

Thank you so much, David. I hope you have a wonderful New Year and an even better 2025.
I know I'm a dinosaur 🦕😅.But back in the 1970s and 80s when I was growing up here in the UK Kentucky fried chicken as it was known back then tasted absolutely fantastic because it was all about the chicken and the special coating and you didn't have all these choices what you've got today. Chicken and chips a family chicken bucket and gravy and maybe corn on the cob and that was basically it. Oh yeah at one stage they introduced a jacket potato for a time and that was good as well😅. KFC these days have definitely lost it and definitely doesn't taste the same👎 Thanks Gary and a Happy New year to you sir. 👍
Thank you and happy new year!
@@GaryEatsThanks 👍
couldn't agree more was far far better in the "olden days" as my kids say about my teen years, people used to queue out the door at my local Kentucky fried chicken and like you said just chicken and fries with gravy but you always enjoyed it. Didn't you also get a Vienetta with the bucket if i remember correctly.
@@everhope6364 Yes it tasted fantastic back then and it was unique because Kentucky fried chicken was the only chicken shop I knew of back in the 70s. You could get normal roasted chicken in a fish and chip shop and that was about it there was no southern fried back then in the chippies😂👍
Yeah I think at one stage they did add a Vienetta to the deal yes you are right. Back then the Vienetta was twice the size😂👍
I liked the chip bending section Gary 😆
Thank you both for another entertaining video 👍
Rosie thank you as always and Happy New Year 🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️
Recently subscribed to your channel and i love the variety of places that you choose to visit, covering everyone's different budgets and likes. Thanks for the videos and keep up the great reviews!
That is very much appreciated, thank you, Craig and happy New Year to you
Love it Gary. I love the fast food reviews!! Omg that’s expensive that’s roughly $32 dollars Australian where here the same should be below 20! Great review as always.
Gary always a big question affordable , we have Red Rooster , so KFC over that but Double the price at FOWL , sorry cost of living hre my friend
Last time I had a KFC was when I lived in Glasgow in the 1980's.... last time I had a McDonalds was never.
I do not blame you at all my friend
the best burger and fries you make are at home very tasty and very nice .
You’re missing out on clogged arteries and massive heart attack my man.
@@GaryEats I'd pay for the Fowl burger and the 'slaw as those are a meal in themselves.
@@lammensjack agreed
KFC has the same problem as McDonalds. It's now too expensive for what it is. No-one expects haute cuisine at either place, but it's got to the stage where you can eat proper food for the same price if you're willing to wait. That said, here in Poland McD still has Maestro burgers, which are two cuts above Big Mac or Quarter Pounder. They cost about six quid, and I'm happy to pay that. Fowl is a terrible name but it looks great.
Yes agreed, BK is even worse!
As your polish let me educate you, fowl is the name for birds, chicken, turkeys, duck etc hence the name, English people understand this
@phillipfairbrass3575 Still a crap name. I think he does understand the meaning. But he's right . Still not as bad as Glory Hole doughnuts!
Polish have no culture or history all they eat is long black sausages
@phillipfairbrass3575 I was born in Woolwich in 1962 and grew up there. I can also punctuate and spell as I've been an English teacher for 32 years.
Thank you for your videos! I’ve just subscribed a week ago and have binge watching them since ❤
Welcome!!
Another great video. As others state the quality varies a lot between franchises. Happy new year Gary 😁
I hope you have a fantastic 2925 Martin
I've watched tons of Gary vids now and from the man who has basically catchphrased "A chip is just a chip" to come down so hard on these speaks volumes about KFC's current quality
I have to say they were disgraceful
They have always been so bad it’s crazy.
Here in Costa Rica (and I presume the USA) they have significantly upped their fry game and now they are excellent
@@GaryEatsyou should have tried their chips BEFORE they added the new spices to them 😂
KFC hasn't been the same since the Colonel died
I think you could be right, Jason, and happy New Year to you
Exactly my thoughts to
That's because he was the only one who knew the recipe...
😂😂😂😂 what a load of rubbish mate the colonel sold kfc in 1964 he’s had nothing to do with it since then
@@marmite1064 someone doesn't understand irony, or have a sense of humour...
KFC has been naff since Colonel Sanders sold it in the '70s. A decision he said he regretted almost instantly as a few years later when he tried the mash and said it was like eating wall paper paste. I remember here in the US the quality took a nose dive in the '90s when a major recession happened. The only region in the world where KFC is good is in Asia (particularly Japan).
Japan has a thing about KFC at Christmas don't they?
Mate ive been to philippines 4 times now and all the main fast food chains are much better quality then what i have at home in uk.
Always loved the crispy strips in Japan. Best chain there however is Mos
@@scottking869 Sure is. Jollibee > KFC any day of the week.
@@billk9856 Yes, and there isn't one reason for it but several. 1) Americans while living in Japan during the '70s that wanted turkey for Christmas would commonly get KFC as a substitute. 2) Takeshi Okawara who was the first manager of KFC Japan introduced the ‘Kentucky Fried Christmas’ promotion in 1974 in Japan which included a fried chicken meal known as the Party Barrel. This did bring some success but what cemented it was Okaware used to dress up as Santa and go to Kindergarten classes giving kids fried chicken which they started to associate with the holiday. Usually in Japan if you want the special you should order in advance and it includes a bunch of things including Christmas cake.
Colonel sanders wouldn't be happy. They stopped giving free viennettas 😂
Definitely it’s gone downhill
KFC is just not worth the money anymore, minimum spend is about £10 for the cheapest meat available chicken. You can get a full chicken in a supermarket for less than a £5.
I agree
For a pound more you can even get one stuffed and in a roasting bag 😊 extremely convenient and dependently tasty. If you do a weeks shopping and buy a baguette as well.....pop the roastie chook in the oven as soon as you get home. . By the time you've put all the shopping away, fed the cat, made a salad and buttered the bread dinners ready
I think with a lot of people they just can’t be bothered to cook. But if that’s so just buy a already cooked chicken from the supermarket and reheat it if you like Hot chicken
Supermarkets (such as M&S and Sainsburys) don't have southern fried chicken though ... nearest thing they do is breadcrumbed chicken which is dry and taste of crumbs & black pepper, the chicken meat is generious in size but is bland.
Let's face it... an awful lot of people in the world don't care about good food. They just want a hit of fat/sugar/salt because it tastes 'good'. This is why we have such huge obesity levels. These corporations spend millions on keeping the masses addicted to their shite.
I remember when i was a kid back in the day. KFC was a treat for us every once in a while. All our meals were eaten at home . KFC of yester year was far better than would we get today.
My late parents were good cooks. Boy! do I miss that. There was nothing bettter than great home cooked meal. Happy New Year 2025 Gary 🍷🍷 Jim and Harriet
I completely agree!! When I was a young girl back in the 70’s, a rare KFC was a real treat! What KFC today produces is a pathetic imitation of what they used to have on offer.
@@DaVinci368 Totally agree!
It used to be so much better than it is now Jim and Harriet. Thank you and happy new year!
I had a conversation with the manager of my local KFC and discussed their lack of quality/taste/flavour, I was told by her personally that now the chicken is outsourced from thailand, yes thailand! they buy massive frozen bulk as it's significantly cheaper per kg she didn't even know what breed it was or how it was raised, that's why my local kfc (at least) has absolutely no "100% british chicken" or "made in the uk" etc. etc. sign posting anymore. Great vid as always Gary!
My word I didn't know that you can bet the chickens live in awful conditions 😢😢
I'm not even surprised.
What’s wrong with Thai birds??
I see, not good
Maybe Australia is lucky, we still have local sourced produce...and we seem to be pretty consistant across stores. Ive lived in many areas and can say that maccas has far more variability than kfc does (customer service levels vary widly though...lol)
Gary you have became my favourite food reviewer. Iv been binge watching your reviews , over Christmas, and Im really enjoying them. You are very honest, and you have a funny, quirky way, of doing your reviews..
Happy New Year, from Cork City, Ireland 🇮🇪
Happy new year! Thank you so much
Hi Gary. So KFC over the past 10 to 15 years in the UK has lost its pizazz.
They changed the chips, from pealed to unpealed. Their gravy sauce was so amazing years ago, now it doesn’t taste, or look how it did when it was nice. Their wings are off sparrows not chickens, and their burgers are always limp.
Some franchises are soooo bad, some are edible, but you always feel mugged off after you have finished eating…….
If you notice, KFC restaurants are hardly ever busy now days.
And their prices are a joke.
The chips are better now. KFC chips used to be disgusting back in the day.
I understand, thank you
There was a workmate that brought a kentucky in for everyone on his birthday. Eventually, it was just several buckets instead because they were the only thing that was worth having.
Nice!
Their chicken on the bone is horrible, so greasy!
Conspiracy theory : KFC chicken wings are really small and stringy and you don’t ever see starlings flying near to a KFC. DISCUSS
Oh no, how could you. I'm stuck with that in my head now. 😂😂😂😂
More like a wagtail.🤣🤣
LOL
There is no rodent problem around the perimeter either...
Never seen a rat with wings🤣🤣🤣
I work in the chicken industry that grows birds for KFC from day old to slaughter is 7/8 WEEKS in the 80's it was 10/12 WEEKS and in years gone by would have taken months. Thats the price of cheap tasteless food i am afraid.
Wow. Definitely not eating again 😊
Tasteless, yes, but cheap? not any more. 😮
May I ask you about this halal chicken that’s everywhere. Is it costing jobs and creating a religious only industry. I will not eat it for a number of reasons and think it’s wrong religious acts are being enforced on people. How prevalent is this religious chicken?
@@debunking_izlam I'd imagine its all halal. Think of it less a religious thing and more a compliance/access to markets thing. Big companies are into it because it expands their market reach and revenues. For them its just a business decision. The amounts of money involved are gigantic so its absolutely worth doing. Kosher likewise.
Moral of the story, you get what you pay for.
Indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
Or less....😂
KFC is still pretty pricy tho.
Untrue.
You couldn't be more wrong. I've had some terrible meals over 20 pound while I've had some great KFC's for under a tenner.
Me ~ watches the review
Me ~ then craves a KFC (for some odd reason)
Lol funny how it works
KFC has raised their prices so much I had to take out a second mortgage to buy an 8 piece family dinner.
It certainly too expensive
I used to love KFC, then when most grocery stores started to have really tasty fried chicken in their deli, for a fraction of the cost. I don't know how anyone affords them now. My local grocery store sells 12 pieces for $13.00!
Thank you, you just sorted out our Saturday night for our visit in London. Hawkmoor Friday, Fowl Saturday. Thanks to your reviews.
Hope you enjoy it! Thank you very much
I really find KFC to be expensive, the chips are usually just warm and limp, the chicken portions are small nothing and tastes the same as it did years ago when I was a kid (then it was so tasty and a real treat)!
I once tried the KFC Chicken fillet burger because i find the orginal chicken piece meal rather sad and lacking any real flavour and it was my lunch break at work where there was nowhere else to eat. But a sandwhich from the garage would have been nicer. I would have rather gone hungry than eat what Igot from KFC, It was so dry to eat, honestly it was unpleasent! Dixy chicken is cheaper and most in most outlets so much tastier! I love your videos and hope you keep makingg them. Hope you have a great new year Gary!
Agreed. I think it's a rip off. Thank you and happy new year!
The only thing worth getting at KFC, you didnt get 😂. The orginal recipe chicken on the bone is the only chicken that gets the " 11 herbs and spices " coating. The tenders and popcorn chicken is for children and the burgers and chips are just pants
The chips if done right are the best fast food chips imo
Yeah, it was a pity the review didn't include this. I like the breast and leg pieces on the bone. Thighs are just awful and full of grease. Most restaurants let you select the type you want at the drive through. If I get a server who claims that isn't allowed as the occasional person does I just drive on through.
Totally agree!
AGREED i commented on a video to Gary before this one and said if you do a KFC video please Gary review the Chicen on the bone because that’s the heart of KFC and where all the secrets are
As a kid growing up chicken on the bone was a big thing. My friends and I and my parents used to always buy a KFC Bucket, chicken seemed bigger and more tasty back then. Fries was better too. Can’t have kfc fries without dipping in Gravy. It’s not so bad the chicken on a good day, but they have more bad days than good. I rarely go these days, still amazes me how my local KFCs (3 in our town of Ipswich) everyday at leaving off time they are all mostly queuing up outside the carparks onto the roads
I always think what’s wrong with these people it’s rarely good anymore
Those are the worst things on the menu, so greasy!
Great video as always kfc makes me sick everytime I eat it. Happy new year 🎆 🎆 to you and your camera man . Please ignore the hateful comments there definitely not coming from your loyal viewers and followers ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much, Carolina ❤️❤️❤️
If it makes you sick everytime you eat it, why eat it lol
Haha aw Gary, I loved your wee dance on the way to kfc 🤣 And you’ve also got this brilliant understated sense of humour….. So subtle at times but a wee delight to the trained eye! Hope you had a great time with the fam over the hols mister x
That is very kind to say thank you very much x
I used to love KFC. These days the chicken is awful and the chips just taste dreadful. The prices have also risen astronomically. No way is it worth the money any more.
Unfortunately, others have said it’s gone downhill
I haven’t eaten KFC for over 20 years now and it looks like nothing has changed.
When they became KFC instead of Kentucky Fried Chicken, the official reason given was that they wanted to drop the word ‘Fried’ for health reasons. There was a rumour going around in the States at the time that they did it to remove the word ‘Chicken’ rather than the word ‘Fried’ because the birds were so genetically modified that 8 out of 10 citizens would not recognise it as a chicken.
Sadly McDonalds and KFC are world leaders partly because they sell in huge volumes in the third world to people who see it as somehow special or exotic. Ironically most of these places produce cheap street food which is way better than anything KFC or McD’s off at a fraction of the price! 😏
I think you have made a very good decision John
2016 kfc was good so your kinda exaggerating
It got worse, honest.
Kfc is awful now compared to years back, competition like popeyes and jollibee are much better in terms of texture and flavouring. £10 is now the norm for a fast food meal (baring McDonald's), which is unheard of pre-brexit. £15 for that is daylight robbery, better off going to nandos.
Tried the Popeyes when they came to Aberdeen a couple of years ago, yes they are actually really nice considering it’s a fast food outlet. They haven’t ventured anywhere North towards Inverness yet, we stuck with one solitary KFC
I made the mistake of ordering a McChicken sandwich last week cause I was absolutely starving and in a rush. £4.20. Just for the sandwich. I felt sick after.
I had my first popeyes last week in the land of jollibee 😂 im sure most fast food places in the philippines have far better quality then uk
Not sure about the post-Brexit relevance to be honest. Cost of living is a somewhat global crisis in recent years and McDonald’s actually costs more on average in France, Germany, and the Netherlands for example. There are many other factors for this such as the covid pandemic, and wars affecting fuel and energy prices. But I do agree that your low tier fast food places like McDonald’s and KFC have become too expensive to be worth it in comparison to some other fast food places that are a bit better
@@walterfillinghamTotally agree that Popeye's is a different level to KFC and although slightly more expensive is well worth the extra
Gary, you certainly are not boring or bland, in fact much the opposite! I haven't had KFC for years, and I think I'll keep it that way. Thanks for the review. Happy New Year!
Thank you Sandra and happy new year
£15 for that at KFC no thank you looked aweful
Waste of money
@@GaryEats I've had a bad experience there before haha
KFC was quite good back in the day 1980's they did ribs as well I'll give it a try once or twice a year just a two piece meal it's usually disappointing and the chips are rubbish now
@@felixcornelius2577 I think they changed the recipe I can imagine it was better then
you can go into Greene Kings pubs 2 meals for £12 far nicer than Kfc now
KFC in the USA today is what KFC UK in the 80s/90s used to be like (before the reduced salt and reduced additive UK laws came into force by the 2000s) KFC UK has become so bland imo
Agreed
Well if you need fake additives and salt for taste that may explain the issue with any of this type of food
what laws are those ? I'm not aware
@@ianrob4760 salt is the most common seasoning. So usually you do need it to make something have " taste " and not be bland. Do you not salt your food when you cook at home ?
@@lp123456gt bits but fast food is still very bland and awful with it, it is low quality food
We live quite rural, the nearest fastfood chain is KFC in Ross on Wye, about 10 miles from us. It used to be good food, in the last few years, all fast food we've had, be it McDs, KFC or others, the quality of the food has dropped drastically to the point we don't bother anymore
Gone downhill massively
Eaten there, I would agree.
But he price dropped dramatically to compensate...
go to an Aldi and pay £3 and get there chicken pieces far better value.
Must be near me, that's our local too. Last time we went there the place was a disgusting mess and the food was inedible. I travel all over the country the Ross KFC Is by far one of the worst I've ever been to.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, Gary.
Hope you have a great one!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I hope you have a truly wonderful New Year, Heather
@@GaryEats Thank you.
I haven’t had KFC for years and will never do again after I saw the state of the birds, heartbreaking.
Also it kept going down hill in quality generally I found, so no more for me.
Fowl was absolutely NOT fowl, looked delicious to me, no qualms over the higher cost.
Worth knowing the birds had some care in their lives too.
KFC 1
FOWL 9
If I was near there I would go, definitely.
Wishing you Gary and yours the very best for the New Year,
hope it’s tasty, fun and kind to you….and us all.
🕊️✨🕊️
I understand your point completely and I hope you have a truly wonderful New Year, Rowan
The way I think about KFC is that the smell and the memories of KFC is better than eating it. These days the Colonel chicken just makes me feel ill.
I can believe that completely, Jason
Thats because off the non halal branches and halal ones there's a difference search for a non halal kfc and it tastes like it used too in the 90s.
Is it just me or was KFC so much better in the 90s. The Zinger burger was amazing back then as was the popcorn chicken and chicken on the bone. Now, pretty much all of it is tasteless and those chips...ew
You love your food bud….happy new year, looking forward to your forthcoming trips abroad.
I hope you have a wonderful New Year, Paul
It’s the hope that kills you with big fast food chains 🤷🏻♂️ Never matches expectations ☹️ Fowl looked great 👍🏼
It was very disappointed
Your cameraman didn't buy the best possible food items at KFC. If you eat the actual chicken pieces (either original or crispy) instead of the stuff of the day, you get more flavor and less grease.
He tried to do a fair comparison
Crispy isn’t a option here in the UK
They sell it so it should be good to eat especially at that price 😊
I see you're in the US?
I’d have liked to see a review of their regular traditional chicken pieces. That’s the only thing that we’d buy from them, and I’m guessing that it’s the take away that a number of families order. We would prefer more dark meat than white.
Not had KFC for years. Good to see you back Gary. 😁
Thank you Melissa, hope you are doing well
@@GaryEatsFab ta Gary, had a lovely Christmas. Hope you did too. Look forward to the next one. 🙂
The chips on KFC are rubbish
The fry chicken 🍗 is the only thing I like it.
Great video, keep it up! 👍🏾 ✅💯
Thank you 😋
When my mum was alive, some 20 years ago, her absolute favourite was KFC. She was very ill, but had KFC as her last meal, which I took to the hospital for her. It used to be bloody delicious, and top quality, but the last couple of times I've had it, its been awful! Recipe has almost certainly changed, and the piece size has shrunk. In fact, back in the day, if you ordered a bucket, you'd get 2 or 3 keel pieces (breast) 3 or 4 thighs/ribs, and 2/3 drumsticks.. now, it's 1 keel (if you're lucky) 2 or 3 thigh/ribs, and 6 or 7 of the cheapest of all, the drumstick.. The chips are bland, and it's bloody expensive.. All in all, its not what it once was... Also, the taste has definitely changed, as has the texture of the coating.. I'm sure they don't change the oil as often as they should either..
KFC was a different beats in the 80s and 90s, it really was...............
KFC have ruined the fries by making them taste meaty and covered in brown grease....vile
Ask for them without
Yes, they were awful
Are they using beef fat?! because beef fat makes fries great
Hard disagree, they taste great. They are fried in beef tallow and seasoned with rosemary + thyme
They're weren't even great before. McDonald's will always be better, well when they aren't frozen that is.
My last KFC was circa. 1995 and I have no intention of ending my hiatus.
Best wished for 2025 to Gary & Son + all the GE subscribers!!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful 2025
Thank goodness you and the "cameraman" are back after the holidays!!!! I have really missed you both!!
That’s really kind thank you
KFC have the worst fries of any fast food joint. Limp. Tasteless. And always cold
Or sometimes burned.
Inexplicably simultaneously burned and cold!@@allancopland1768
You not had fries from Wimpy before? As bad as KFC fries may be, I doubt they are worse than Wimpy's. The one and only time that I went there, I had a mix of burnt rock solid teeth breaking fries mixed in with soggy/wet, oily fries in the same bag. And both types tasted of cardboard. There was probably no more than 15 fries in the bag as well. Tiny portion and absolutely rancid. 1/10 rating. KFC fries are probably 2/10.
Here in Australia, our KFC chips has chicken salt, so I always ask for extra salt when I get KFC, far superior to Maccas and Hungry Jacks (Burger King). We're also lucky to have an alternative fast food chicken joint called 'Red Rooster', which sells a mix of fried and BBQ chicken (although in recent years they've moved away from BBQ chicken to fried chicken). Apart from that, we don't really have any high market fried chicken places that do an American style fried chicken. Any high end places tends to do the Korean version of fried chicken, which I guess makes sense given Australia's access to Asia, compared to the UK.
Just to add, chicken salt does not contain any actual chicken, it's called chicken salt as it was originally made to be put onto chickens, fish and chip shops and chicken shops then started putting it on chips and other fried products and it took off with the public. Also, it's an Australian invention, first created in Adelaide!
I think you must be far luckier in Australia
I love chicken salt!
When I visited Australia, I loved Oporto but that was about 18 years ago
@@johnchapmonkey8933 Oporto is still around, although they went to the doldrums a few years ago and brought back the creator of Oportos as a Consultant, since then they've improved, but no fried chicken!
KFC is a joke - the prices for what you get are crazy and the food is a let down apart from the tenders and gravy 😀thanks for the review Gary
All these fast food chains are getting a joke now. The prices now on all of them are £10-£12 for a Meal. BurgerKing Bacon XL double cheese burger meal now is about £11 I believe and you get a tiny amount of chips
KFC 3 piece Colonel meal is about £10 with a Gravy. Prices are ridiculous for what you get
the gravy is great due to how they make it👍

Great q&a video btw
Thank you very much, James
I have never understood the hash brown in that burger absolutely disgusting!!!

That made me laugh
KFC or Fowl? Depends. I think Fowl only have one restaurant and their prices are high. KFC are everywhere and although their quality isn't the best, they are certainly cheaper. With that in mind, I would have to choose KFC every time and I'm not even that keen on their food. KFC are just more accessible. It's just not realistic to pick Fowl, for reasons of convenience and also budgetary constraints. Happy New year, Gary. Loving the channel as always.
I don't agree. He makes an excellent point that VALUE for MONEY. You are better to go somewhere quality less times rather than somewhere like KFC frequently. Even if you are not well off, that still applies, you go to fowl once a month instead of KFC 2/4 times a month. The its to expensive for people like me, just does stand up to scrutiny. You will also get some memorable experiences of good food,
KFC committed a major act of self-harm when they changed from decent fries to these weird unpeeled chips (not fries in my book). I recall they made this change in reaction to a random tweet by some purple haired woman.
Despite calls by many to bring back their previous fries, they have insisted on sticking with this garbage. No surprise that every time I go past a KFC the place is near empty.
Too right the chips are utter garbage, soggy and limp, the other food is ok for change but nothing great.
I bet the purple haired moron doesn't even eat at kfc
Still better than Burger King fries
@@adamski101 burger king chips superior every day of the week, atleast they are crispy

Fowl and not foul.
A burger should NEVER have a brioche bun. Never.
Agree. A brioche is nice at breakfast but otherwise is a bit cloying. These silly trends where suddenly you can’t get a sandwich that isn’t on a brioche are annoying.
I have to agree with you
Come on Gary - what do you expect? It's a bit like a professional doing a professional comparative wine tasting of a Chateau Neuf de Pape and a Fanta - a bit silly perhaps? What do you expect from these fast-food, mass-produced and standardised snack bars?
It’s not a straight contest, it’s to highlight value for money
I haven't been to KFC in decades. All I can remember is the greasy chicken, the watery mashed potato and the horrible gravy. I have occasion to ride past a KFC and the smell coming out of there is horrible. I hope your taste buds recover after eating that garbage Gary.
Not good at all my friend

Happy new year to you and your family Gary, here's to your channel thriving❤. You are appreciated. I had a special Christmas, blessed and thankful. Twas also my rescue dog (Shelby) first Christmas, and as I discovered, has a knack for using mums bank card for a Christmas present for me. But it was all clear when my son explained that Shelby doesn't have a savings box, doesn't get money, subsequently the only way to get a gift was with my card. 😂😂❤❤. And to be fair, it was something on my list. Shelby now has a money box. 😂❤❤
Happy new Year Lizzie and that was funny 🤣❤️❤️❤️
When I go to KFC here in the US, I get the 3 piece chicken with mashed potatoes, coleslaw and a biscuit (American biscuit, not a British cookie). I wait until they have a coupon in our local paper that comes out on Thursday with adds for all of the stores and coupons for fast food. KFC is not bad and is close to home. And with a coupon, usually for a dollar of two off, it is a good deal. You should have just had CHICKEN and compared the flavor, juiciness and price.
what are American biscuits? Are they like cobblers?
I imagine it would be better in the states
