History repeats itself for primarily one reason; Ignorance.
How many people actually pay significant attention when learning history, AND how many retain that information after they get their grade and move on?
Our brain does retain the information quite well, however on a macro level society shifts focus to the present and our careers. The few that do retain this info usually find themselves in positions of power and find comfort in the repetition of humanity, the predictability and the profit seduces them, thus the cycle continues.
As my history teacher in high-school stated; the most profitable activity in history has always been war.
