    I made the move from Canada to Thailand in 2015 when I was around 29 years old. My first trip to Thailand was in 2011, stayed in Bangkok for a year. In late 2018, my Thai wife and I started this YT channel and it's been our main source of income ever since. We have lived in Chiang Mai for a few years, Cambodia for a year, Khon Kaen for a few years, and now more remotely in the mountain 2h west of Khon Kaen.
    Thailand is separated in section. You have the south (Phuket and more south, Samui, etc), a lot of beaches.
    Then you have Bangkok with a lot of traffic, bad air, very humid temperature, etc, I don't like Bangkok, it's way too noisy.
    You also have Chiang Mai, and all the way to Myanmar border (Chiang Rai, Pai, etc). That whole section of Thailand is full of nature, mountains, wild life, etc. For someone with a YT channel, Chiang Mai is the best place to start. You won't be overwhelm, the pace of life is slower, and there are a lot of digital nomads, influencers, etc. The food there is also the best in all Thailand and it's very cheap compare to Bangkok and Phuket.
    And finally there is Isan which... well, forget it. It's an area where people over 50 years old go to retire with their Thai wife. It's the countryside with farms, etc. It's where we are atm, but we work from computer and don't go out much. We went there during Covid, we basically removed ourselves from the world for the last 2 years. Everything that Isan has, Chiang Mai has too, but in Chiang Mai you have a lot more foreigners and things for foreigners.
    Also, and this is for another day, but visas is the #1 hassle about living long term in Thailand. I'm married now and on marriage extension, but it's getting harder for people year 2-3 to start staying longer without going crazy with newer and newer regulations.
    Good luck!

      Wow! That’s quite the journey you’ve had. Sounds like you guys are enjoying life in Thailand and doing well. Thank you so much for sharing all that information with my viewers.
      Yes, I am aware that the visa situation is a bit dicey. I think if one has the desire to stay long-term, and has the means, the Thai elite visa is the way to go. But I think we’re talking a minimum of $10,000.
      I wish you the very best success and happiness. I will definitely take a look at your channel!

    • @MaxSujyReact
      @MaxSujyReact 2 года назад +3

      @@LifewithSerg Elite Visa is minimum 500k baht for 5 years, it's like 16.5k, it's really not worth it. If you are rich you can get 10 years for 1M baht, I think? If you are 50 years old or near, you can get retirement visa. Are you here on the STV for 9 months, or tourist visa 60 days? Or even Non-O?

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 года назад +3

      Yep, I’ve looked at the elite visa and it’s quite expensive. It’s not the right choice for me. I will be exploring my options shortly.

    Permanent means putting a million baht in a Thai bank or $32,000. And having $500 monthly coming in and over retirement age only. For that you get a 1 year visa that must be renewed yearly and there is point I believe is 7 years you must return to your home country and start over. Thailand was talking about raising the bank deposit to 1.5 million baht and unlike the Philippines where you can buy property, not just 49%, you can use investments as the deposit. So no such thing as permanent in Thailand who has been denying record numbers of extensions.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 года назад

      Thank you for sharing that information. Yes, I’m aware of all those hoops and restrictions. I also firmly believe that in life, if there is a will there is away. Hopefully Thailand will ease up some of these restrictions and make it easier for people to relocate here and infuse money into the economy.

Not as lucky on my upcoming trip to Bangkok in September on Singapore Airlines, I paid $674 for. This fare, as compared to $666 on the mistake fare. I thought the PCR test was taken at the airport. Are you still able to exchange money and get a sim card at the airport before getting on your ride to the AQ hotel? Or are you ushered outside right away? Thank you so much for sharing your journey sir !

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 года назад +1

      No, they don’t do the PCR test at the airport, it’s done when you check into your ASQ hotel. Yes you are able to exchange money and get a Sim card before you get to the hotel. If you have a dual sim phone, you can actually buy an eSIM online before you even arrive. That way when you land you already have a new working phone number. Take a look at the description of this video as I shared some helpful links.

    Hello Serg, your channel landed in my fed this morning. Found it to be nicely done. I also kame to Thailand from Las Vegas through Las Angeles (Long Beach) California on board a cruise ship 2019. Had looked at flying & the 18hrs flight. Which wouldn't give much time to unwine from Las Vegas. With farther searches found the ship leaving in Sept sailing 25 days to Singapore. Sailing gave plenty of time to just settle down before reaching Asia. The cost comparison was close to equal with ship on the higher side yet well worth it overall.
    Had set up the entire trip door to door from Vegas to Kamala Beach where am continuing to reside making the adventure worry free.
    During your flights there was a stop in Japan, were you required to have a Visa? Noticed you had mentioned spent six hours, in intranet part of airport b4 connecting flight to Bangkok. My reason for asking we are flying to Tokyo from Bangkok and need a overnight stay before boarding a Holland America ship headed to Seattle Washington.
    Looking forward for future postings on your channel about your time in Thailand.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 года назад +1

      Well that sounds like quite the adventure you’ve had! Welcome aboard. I only spent three hours in Tokyo airport. If you transition through Tokyo, a PCR test is not required. However if you spend the night, they will require you to have a PCR test. A visa is not required to transition through Japan.
