My dad and I have about 50 hives and we've noticed that the bees are a little "behind schedule" due to the late cold snap. At least that's what we think. On the plus side, we are in swarm collection heaven! Our bees have been pretty aggressive too. I wonder if, like you said, it's the weather or something. Anyway, keep up the great videos. I'm a big fan.
One thing you could invest in if your bees get any more irritated over the load noise of the weedwacker is a scythe. It can get close and cuts just as well if not better.
My favorite video you’ve ever made!! Please do more on the bees!! I really want to start a hive I was going to this year but health issues slowed me down
I loved the video. Many years ago, my cousin had lots of bees. He was up in his late 70's and his finger joints were badly deformed from arthritis. He had a lot of pain from it. I remember him holding bees to his knuckles so they would sting him. He said the bee venom eased the pain of the arthritis. Have you ever heard of this?
My bees have been very defensive/irritable as well. Yesterday I took a sting when one got caught under the strap on the back of my ball cap and today one flew right into my face and stung me on the eyelid. Both times I was in my garden, over 30 yards from the hive at least, and not running any sort of equipment.
You definitely don’t want to mess with those widows. Been watching your milling videos for a while and discovered your beekeeping videos the other day.
Regarding troubled hive - That first frame you pulled up with scattered drone "domes" is classic laying worker or drone laying queen. Don't blame you for trying the open brood but don't have much hope for you. Its been a while since you did this so presumably you know the outcome. Take care.
@@falllineridge cool! I’ve always wondered if that is where beeswax comes from! Can you do a video in that process? New subscriber-I really like the way you do your videos 👍🏽
I love to watch your bee videos. I wouldn’t dare do what you do but love watching. Would love to have info on how to use the honey in food or any other way to use it. Any websites you can suggest. Thanks!
When you are fooling around where the bees are, try to stay to the side or behind the hives. I have been able to get the top off and get frames out and put them back in the heat of the day. I just stood behind the hives. I don't have any bees now. I wish I could be able to keep bees.
Is there a reason you haven’t planted wild flowers around the hives? Too close? Instead of letting grass grow so close could you throw cardboard down around them and cover with chips? Seems it would be better not to disturb them with a weed eater? Just curious. Clover may be a way to go. Just thinking about keeping the grass down. 🙂
No real point in planting flowers around the hives. Bees travel in a 2+ mile radius around the hives to find nectar, covering thousands of acres. If I planted flowers around the hives it would just be a drop in the bucket.
Wes, how about if you used fuel on your weed Wacker that had straw flavor smoke, or cotton rag flavor ? Don't quite know what to do about the vibration... Maybe get a trimmer that would put out a bee lullaby rhythm....
This looks complicated. How long have you been raising bees? I would like to start a hive but know nothing about. What’s the best way to learn about it.

Do you ever worry about Africanized bee swarms? I hear they are still spreading all through the southwest. I can't handle one bee much less thousands. Stay safe. God Bless.
I'm not a beekeeper but, couldn't you spray the grass and weeds around the hives so you don't have to trim so close? Seems that would allow you to keep from irritating them.
Great looking video, happy havest
Love your videos

Love seeing the bees keep it up

Weed whip at night with a red cap light. Works for us.
Always good to see those beehives😃😃!!
Good luck with all the helping your hives.
So proud to see all the work u have accomplished out on the land! It's so relaxing watching your vids!! Keep up the good work! God bless!!
That was some fascinating content. Thank you for posting that.
I love fresh honey
Glad you cut the grass around the hives. Big improvement for healthy hives. Should have a good honey crop this year.
Cool content. Thanks
thank you for this video! I just got into beekeeping and yours and other videos are helping me get started.

Yaupon holly is blooming heavy here on my 10 acres in southeast Texas
Great video Wes! No interest in Honey - too sweet for me, but I love watching you & learning anyway! Stay safe & well - Dave. 👍👍

This has been a great video. Actually, this is one of your better videos.
Very informative video. You must not have any bears in your area.
This was so fun to watch! What do you do with the caps when you're done harvesting honey?
Save them and render them into beeswax for candles.

That looks like a supercedure cell to me
If you put some honey on the frames of the hive you are putting out for the swarm of bees in the tree, you may be able to get the swarm.
Very interesting

We just not gon talk about the million bees that dropped off that branch when he banged it against the box lol

Is it bad if a hive swarms, does it damage bee population, is their anything you can do to prevent if necessary?
Great video!! I was wondering why you didn’t use a mower around the hives? Nice frames of honey!!
Tha worker bees will create a queen cell or two so they will have a queen and maybe have a queen that will break away and start another swarm.

Take the swarm cell out of strong hive and add to weak hive
Looking back, I wish I had done that.
What's the ratio of the varoa infestation period for your country?.
The hive that swarmed is now queen-less and pissy?
now you need more tools to get the most honey out of those hives the bee's are way more active in the heat
Thats laying workers. All drone brood sporadic around the comb. Shake them out and use those resources for viable hives
Have you read about the dances the bees do to tell the other bees where to go to find nectar?
Yes, I've observed them do it as well. Really cool.
I live in a neighborhood where people are afraid of the honeybees. I have tried to explain that honeybees don't go out looking for someone to sting.
I finally gave all of my beekeeping equipment away.
I think if you used a battery powered weedeater it might not agitate the bees as much. I"m sure the gas motor would be pretty agitating for them.
I think you're right. They hate the vibration and the fumes.

It's not a problem in my area, at least not yet.
Lawn mower!!!!!!!!!!
Done it before, greatly enrages the bees.
Where do you live? I’m in NYC and we yet to have added any supers. They are soon to come but you look ahead of the game
Why do you only take cappings
If you sell your honey where do I go to buy some? Thanks in advance
Mmmmmm.... yummy bee vomit!!! Can't wait to see you make Mead with it!
Do you sell honey ? Btw love the video

Yes, that's an option too.
I dont know what it is about bees and 2 cycle engines
you shouldn't really mix bees from some hives into different hives
