Adjust or not the supra mk5 works much stronger the b58 is much more recent it is logical some manage to do the 100 to 200 in less than 2.8 with 1200hp... the 2jz is old

Mk5 is just the superior platform. No "oh its the driver's fault" Its a 30 year old car, of course its successor is going to be faster and more efficient. Technology advances and when the aftermarket for the B58 is fully tapped we can expect even more power from it than the primative (by comparison) 2JZ This shouldnt be a fanboy arguement it's just common sense that the newer generation with modern tech will be faster
Just turn that Mk4 into a clean high horsepower street build that can do it all: backroad/strip/road course. Drop the power to like 800hp and it's set.

that mk4 is on such a good setup from the last 3 supra battle, the launches were unbeatable when done properly. This is disappointing but I hope he gets it sorted or dial that thing back down to where it just works. Congrats to the mk5 owner for their record. I had high hopes of seeing the ZF trans MK4 do some great things in comparison. I'm CD009 on my MK4 & was highly impressed by its performance in the 3 supra battles, damn near made me contemplate switching trans. All in All, I believe the Launch control needs some serious work on the mk4, either that or the prepped track was just too much. The time we went off track he had launch issues too but the previous times it launched on a dime.
The gearbox control unit needs better tuning. That last launch, there was a long pause before the car started moving. But then the propshaft broke, I suspect from the massive surge in torque. No issues with engine tuning, but the GCU definitely needs to be looked at. Epic stuff though Jamie!!
I hope the Mark IV owner can get it dailed in, even prepare the transmission for the amount of power it makes... So sad that it didn't work and couldn't show how good it is

Nothing to do with the age, he just kept bogging the launch & trying to stay on it, shockloading the drivetrain. I doubt the launch control is even dialed in as it keeps misfiring off the line. -The Mk5s have a grout filled bottom end i think, so slightly stronger than the b58 found in the z4.-
@@BNR_248 I agree with you on mk4 bogging on launches but the b58 part is just wrong. It's the exact same chassis and the exact engine, nothing changed between the two, and many are parts interchangeable. Same thing with g series 40i cars, they have same engine.
@@Sulfides I thought Toyota revised the B58 with a closed deck design during revision? Maybe i was wrong, i dont follow the Toyota/BMW engines as I'm more into Nissans but makes sense to keep the platform as is.
@@BNR_248b58s have always been closed deck as the gen 1s (f series) came out closed deck. The difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2( g series and supras) is that the gen 2s have a different cylinder head, timing chaining, fueling setup, cooling setup and a different vanos gears
Not sure if that helps, the mk5 has a 8hp51, while the mk4 has the 8hp70. The mk4 has the objectively better trans of the two but couldn't get the power down for some reason. And you can't argue it's because the mk4 wasn't built for the zf, when other 2jz powered cars doing are well with zfs. Plus the mk4 has a turbolamik tcu which is supposed to make integration significantly easier and painless. So the only logical conclusion that I can come to is that the mk4 straight up just needs a different tuner or a updated tune.
