- / bikemanforu How to adjust the drivetrain on your bike with step-by-step instruction from RUclips's award-winning guru of DIY bicycle repair. Free shipping www.bikemanforu.com on bike parts, tires, tools, and cycling accessories. Last video in the three-part mini BMX series on how to assemble a bike you purchased online. Watch the entire how-to playlist here bit.ly/1oAINZH In this DIY tutorial, BikemanforU begins his repair by analyzing the problem. The crank issues are related to an off centered chain, requiring chainline or chain sight adjustment, necessating removal of the rear wheel to better line up the axle, as well as removal of the crank and bottom bracket inspection. This video also covers pinch bolts, and re-tightening of compression bolts, carefully tightening up each side of the crank until both sides are even and the wheel axle is balanced. While he tended to overtighten in an effort to install the parts correctly, the bike owner gets kudos for knowing how to install left and right side pedals fairly correctly, and also for realizing when he's over his head and needs to consult a professional. The featured bike is a beautifully glorious white and orange Sunday Aaron Ross EX Pro BMX that was purchased online, arrived in a box at the new owner's home. The manufacturer, Sunday Bike, has attempted to make assembly easy by requiring basically an allen key and a wrench for the job, and, quite understandly, the new owner was quick to put it together. But when the job turned out less than, he brought the bike into our shop in Westhampton Beach, NY. That yard stick trick was CLUTCH bro. Thank you. 🙏 I was bout to quit on this bike as far as the 3 piece crank goes for now 😂 on to the next one. But I did that trick and now I can see I just need like one or two spacers on top of my cone spacer… hmm I never would’ve thought that side would’ve needed to go out further but I guess it does! This has been driving me up the wall all the week you have no idea how glad I am to see and know what’s going on

Great video! Lots of good advice. Hope you're doing better and is well.
Well done good job, love watching anything that involves bikes.
Absolutely superb, found this video especially helpful as I intend to build my own single speed bike, and wanted to know what problems I may encounter with chain alignment.
I need to quit working on cars for a living and start working on bikes. Installed a sprocket on my 20" and found your vid for some pointers. Very good stuff.
I'm building a custom wtp BMX. I've had some issues right at the last point... Putting the chain on! Took it out a it kept skipping. I thought it maybe the chain being too lose as it did look as though it could be tighter so I've trying and succeeded in taking some links out but with no joy.. Now it won't go on! Two things I've now learned; adjust from the back wheel and check the alignment. I'll try with new eyes tomorrow... Many thanks, so glad I came across your video. Regards. Sid
Thank you for this! I just got my first nice bmx and I have no idea how to work on it this helps so much!

Nice! I enjoyed this.
Great vid, I also lots of improperly put together bikes, mostly from Wallmart.
Thanks that fixed one problem on my bike put I have the same break system as this one and they grind really bad but not on the rim on the u were they both meet and the meatel is grinding together and the brakes cant even touch the rim
Nice work man.
Hi, i love your videos ;)
I´m having a problem with my bike, it seems the bolts of my crank are allways getting loose, i am tightening them good, but after a few days it gets loose again, it never happened before, just when i was younger and i had alot of weight and it would make alot of pressure there xd... anyway, what can it be? can the crank edges be getting rounded?
thanks
You are just the best!
Thx you made my day and it just started
Thanks bike man! I specially like the way you try to provide alternatives for us, the ones who can't afford fancy bike tools. I got really interested in you explanation of how important is a bike stand. I just flip my trusty steed on its handlebars and its seat and do the repairs that way. How much better is a bike stand? Here in Bolivia there aren't that many bike shops that uses a bike stand, and I never found myself really needing one. Should I invest in one? Why would I? Thanks again bike man! Keep on doing a great job!
really enjoyed... keep doing these
Rated this video bro 💯
Too many bike vids with just music ontop, great to actually be taught something. I have done the cranks a few times myself and I'm pretty clued up now, still great to see how others do it , my way the same as urs, still watched till the end 👍🏻 U have a new subscriber
Love it. God bless you!
I have a bmx 20" frame with 16t chainring, and spoked wheels. I want to change the spoked wheels to mag wheels that have a different size cog,i also changed the chainring size to the relevant 44t for the mag wheels. Upon fitting the 44t chainring it hits the side of the frame bar because its bigger than the previous chainring,do i require chainring spacers so the 44t chainring will fit?
Hey bike man, I love in Pomona, NY. I've been riding for 4 years and I ride a custom with colony hubs. I have a free coaster back hub and I think it's great but I can't find any good videos on how to adjust the slack on a free coaster hub. Would you happen to know?
Me watching you it's like going to bicycle college lol excellent stuff man. A+ brother 👍
Dude looks like Christopher Lloyd from back to the future. Good Work, video helped a lot.
Nice I am having the exact same problem. Chain is tight then lose. I knew the problem was in the BB. Idk how I even found this but thanks for making it. I'll dial it in tomorrow.
Great video. 👍
I am so subscribing. I really need your help. My bike was put together by walmart because I got the one from display. And it just never rode right. It was more hard to bike around than it was to walk and I never can barely coast. I remember how easy bikes used to be to ride and I knew something was up. I adjusted the breaks, the gears, aired up the tired, ect. And it improved it some but nothing like it was supposed to be. It was still almost unbearable to ride. And I noticed the chain was out of line and sort of loose at the end but didn't know how to fix it. If this is the problem, I am hoping your video will help me fix it. Although, my bike has a lot of gears so I am going to have to be careful. But thank you so much for posting this. Even if it doesn't help issue, it is always good to learn how to fix your own stuff. I would have taken it to a proffesional by now but I can't afford it at the moment. So your channel will help a lot.
Hello guys
thank you much for your videos! They are well made and funny.
QUESTION: Do you have a tip for me how I can totally fix the axle so that it doesnt move slowly forwards when cranking?
I thought about putting some plastic or metal between chain stay drop out and axle. Is there something one can buy? How is it called?
Greetings from germany
Great video
Over tightening of parts ,such in this video, can and will destroy the threading's,and crack the sealed bearings in the rear hub,,good thing this badass Sunday was fixed before any real damage occurred...good video..
Hey bikemanforu, I have a bmx chain that gets tight to a little bit loose. Any suggestions to fix that? Thx
My sunday Aaron ross Am had this same problem so im wondering if this is just from factory setup?, anyway i have fixed mine now thanks to you guys, great work keep it up :)
Awesome Bikeman..
Another informative excellent video
Tanks
Hi Bikeman, I'm just got a fixed gear when I turn the wheels it turns fine, but when I put weight or cycle, it causes the chain to slack, might it be the same problem?
Hey man I'm new to your channel and I really liked this vid and I wanted to ask you if u can tell me or if you have any videos of how I can fix this noise in my bmx bike. And it's coming from the cranks. So here the thing, when I start to peddle I hear a kinda of a popping noise when I take off. It rides ok but there's a pop when I take off a little fast on the bmx. I would appreciate it if you guys could help me thanks
If you loosen the bolts that wrap around the axle first then address the bolts on the ends it is not only easier to deal with but it is the correct order. Lossening the end bolts before the others would be the equivalent of loosening the top cap of the steerer tube before you loosen the stem. Also if one of the bolts is crazy tight on one side your best bet is to try the other side before stripping out a head...also after loosening the bolts that wrap around the axle.
Pinch bolts.
wow im guessing he got this from dans comp where i got mine. when you get the bike the cranks stem forks back wheel and brakes are already installed. all you have to do is tight some bolts and put the front wheel on and the handlebars on. mine was pretty much ready to go after i put the front wheel and the handlebars and air in the tires. Its crazy how all this stuff was messed up with his.
Actually, I understand "bikes-in-a-box," like those from Amazon, Bikesdirect, etc., generally come from the manufacturer assembled, except for parts that would make the package larger for shipping, like pedals, bars and front wheel. The fork is generally turned around to shorten the package, and the front brake cable is disconnected in order to pack the handlebars somewhere else. The assembled parts may not be tightened and adjusted well, just put together. When I redid every bolt and adjustment on my recent bikein-a-box, as recommended, some of the bolts had been tightened so hard I thought I was going to strip the heads, while others were loose to the touch.
I really think whoever got the bike in the video, got those parts mis-assembled that way, and had no idea how it should have been.
im about to order another one from dans comp next time i get paid. im so excited
i love fixing bikes doing it since i was little i dont have to go to bike shops anymore unless i need something and i put it on myself shops where i live dont tighten things down good a long time ago i needed my headset tightened and i went to ride it and the stem came loose almost got hurt so i do it myself now i even fix my friends bikes and they never have any problems
thanks for the vid brother man
Great vid
Great stuff, thanks!
what a giving knowledgeable guy nice!
5:32 BikemanforU accurately predicted the Internet bike ordering phenomenon.
Bike Man!! I have a question, what tire weighs more a 20 x 30 tire or a 20 x 35 tire??
I would think the 20 x 35 weighs more?? Am I correct??!
Thanks man
Fantastic 👍
I have a question. I got a new dottom bracket and new sprocket. But my sprocket spins crooked does that mean my crank Arms messed up?
Great video appreciate it 🙏
How much spline engagement is enough? My crankarm only gets like half of the splines covered. I am only using the spacers and no washers. The crankarms have like a 1/4 inch of clearance on the drive side and like 3/8 on the non drive side. It is almost as if the bb is too wide or the axle piece is too narrow. I am thinking of grinding down the non drive side spacer at the machine shop to at least get another 1/8 of spline engagement.
Please make a video on how to make a correct chainline on 1X11 MTB set up on a tapered bottom bracket to prevent from chain dropping when back pedal occurs either intentional or not. Thanx.
would a mountain bike triple crank work on a road bike? if so what would the smallest group set that would work?
Hey BikemanforU!
Thank you for all your vids. Do you have any plans opening up shop in southern Ca? If so, count me in!
When are you going to finish the Hampton cruiser? I was looking forward to the finale.

I got a new bike yesterday but the pedals aren't moving and the thing that keeps the chain in the way is preventing it from moving consistently. I know nothing about bikes however i would like some advice as what to do
I need some hep Bikeman. One crank my chain will be really tight then another crank and it has a lot of slack and will not hit the back brake one crank then hit it the next revolution. How do i fix that?
I am asking is this normal when I push my bike is my cranks supposed to like pedal like when your on them
Got a question my bb on my s&m aft 24” is brand new and I put lots of greased and just had my back rim serviced at my local bike shop and my bb is still making a popping noise when I ride it does anybody know why it’s doing that ?
Hey my bike has a squeaky weird noise.
I believe it needs new chain.
But people say my sprocket is bend.
What do you think is wrong with it?
I'm ordering mad random parts to make an old school dirt racing bike and I wish I knew someone like bike man I could take it to to put it all together.
