What’s the difference between the CX60 and a 90 with a rear delete? Near as I can tell the 90 is about a foot longer and won’t have a diesel engine option. It sounds like we are getting a slightly larger 60 already.

This is actually really impressive, what you get for 50k, a premium 3 row SUV, with great comfort and driving dynamics. Heated and cooled seats, instead of a turbo 4 cylinder, you get a buttery smooth Inline 6. These are things that something like a BMW X5 offers for like 30k more.

I remember reading something about the starter motor situation a while back. Apparently it's not good for the health of the high voltage battery to provide a ton of power when it's cold, especially in cold climates like yours and mine in Michigan and Minnesota, so the traditional starter motor was added to preserve the life and health of the hybrid battery

The comment made around 8:50 confirms it's a normal thing. Then there's my ole '17 Kia Sorento that can be sat for weeks, low on burnt oil, still running original battery + sparks from 85k miles ago and still turn over instantly.

I’m on my second Volvo lease. A 2021 XC60 now a 2023. I had a CX9 rental for a week when I was out of town last fall. I was reminded of why I love Mazda products. The dynamics and powertrain were so fantastic. The seats and ride felt like cheap cardboard compared to my Volvos. I really like this CX90 and I’m hoping it retains those Mazda dynamics but moves closer to Volvo in the quality feel. The Volvos are a bit dull and lacking in the driving dynamics and powertrain. PHEV thing was cool and all but I was really curious the whole time what the I-6 versions are like. Road tripped it from Seattle to Portland and back and made for a great highway cruiser, and even hustled it a bit through some winding roads in the Oregon backcountry with some Miata friends who were very surprised how well I managed to hang with them! I just feel like making the case for the PHEV model with these is tricky (I only saw ~20 miles of real world EV only range, but did manage to average 30 mpg when I returned it…it’s still a big 3 row SUV lol), and I’d imagine the I-6 being the more befitting option for the car generally. Definitely want to get behind the wheel and try one at some point.

My daughter owns a CX9 and that got us started on the Mazda track. The wife needs to replace her aged out Ford Explorer and we looked at a bunch of cars, ranging from Acura MDX to Kia Telluride and then on a lark, she said "Let's look at a CX90", so we did.
We drove the Turbo-S Premium model and from the moment we sat in it, we felt like "we're home"--this SUV feels right in every respect. The driving performance is effortless and the car almost seems connected to my mind, it's uncanny ability to seamlessly respond to my every desire while driving.
The audio system on it is every bit as good as the one in the CX9, which we've come to appreciate, relative to other 'factory audio' systems. Acura and Kia had horrid factory audio.
Everything about the Mazda is just on target. Now we're scrambling to figure out how to afford it.

We purchased a Preferred Plus model in Platinum Quartz Metallic. Considered a Toyota Grand Highlander (too big/too soft a ride), Telluride/Palisade, X5, etc. Decided to go with the CX-90 as it has most of what we wanted at a decent price. Really like the interior so far; thanks for the heads-up about the rattling seat belts when the back seats are declined. Agree w/you about the side/front angles. AC seems weak, good pick-up, but the engine takes a bit of getting used to as this is our first car that 'turns off' at a light and is a bit 'torquey.'
Seems too much use of the wheel...worried about long-term wear and tear since the nav is not voice-activated. LOTS of spinning. After less than a week, taking the car into the dealership as the infotainment system isn't working correctly: not loading, random reboots, 'locked' wheel, no control over sound. Since this is the first year of the CX-90, wondering if this is the typical first model year issues or the beginning of more problems due to poor QC.

Topher, nice POV review. A few questions: 1) Does the Remote Start when engaged activate the heated steering wheel automatically (when it's below a certain low temp) & the rear window defroster & heated Seats & mirrors?; 2) Does the CX-90 have Auto Exit and Entry - to adjust the seats back & raise the steering wheel when exiting, and the same when entering using the Memory Settings; 3) Do the sideview mirrors automatically Fold up when you turn it off? One comment about te InfoT. I saw that the default settings - which can be changed in it's Buried menu - of when using AA or CP you cannot use the touch screen to use . That can be changed to allow using AA or CP while driving by changing that setting !
Most reviewers of the Mazda continue to compare it To Volvo, BMW, MB, even Lexus, but Exclude Acura MDX. I have a 22 MDX Advance, and aside from some Creature Comforts (particularly what I cited above, This CX-90 is a direct Competitor to it, IMHO. Premium Plus Non Turbo S at $55K vs. a 24 MDX Advance at $64K ! To get the HP/Torque of the Turbo S you would have to Upgrade the MDX to a Type S model + CX-90 at $62K Premium Plus Turbo S vs a MDX Type S Advance at $75K !!

I am hesitant on getting this because reviewers mentioned that they can feel all the bumps of the road, which will get annoying over time. But I purchase vehicles also based on IIHS safety ratings.

I owned Mazdas before and I told myself I will never buy a Mazda again...then I saw this car. 6cyl+Hybrid.....that is a winner. All the small block 4cyl engines are garbage and your car won't last. Well done, keep making more 6cyl cars because the 4cyl turbos are only good on paper.

As the owner of a 2021 CX-5 turbo, I got one of these as a loaner a few weeks ago and it pains me to say that I was very disappointed in the car. The ride was harsh and bouncy, tracking at highway speeds was extremely nervous, requiring constant little corrections and the auto start/stop was jerky and unrefined. Despite the size of the interior, I found the driver's seat to feel very confined and cramped and the third row is useless for anyone over age six, ridiculous for how utterly massive this thing is. My CX-5 is my second Mazda and I will own an MX-5 someday but if somebody gave me $50-60k to spend on a full-size crossover, I'd walk straight past the CX-90 and get an Acura MDX. Maybe these reviews put the car on a pedestal and maybe the loaner I got was just a bad example but to say I was disappointed in it is an understatement.

I drove a 2013 and 2019 MX-5 and both are incredible refined. I find the Acura MDX the absolute most horrendous car I have seen this 2024 (The inside is nice though). Looks like a generic GTA V SUV

13:04 i detest a.s.s. it's such a pita to live with on a daily basis since you can't set it to off by default, and surely it has to have an effect on the starter motor, as well as the turbo.

On most cars you can just turn accessory mode on, disable, then start the car. I hate it too but it becomes habit pretty quickly and you don’t think about it. It is nicer when they allow it to always be disabled, but alas they want to please the EPA and EU with their emissions ratings.

The fact that this giant SUV has a multi-link rear suspension, double wishbone up front, but the Mazda 3 is on a torsion beam rear baffles me. BMW or Mercedes isn’t less luxurious because M and AMG exist, so bring back Mazdaspeed and cars that are really fun to drive.

@@maximeparent3004SUVs and crossovers didn’t suddenly eclipse sedans because manufacturers started marketing them. They became fuel efficient, easy to drive, better looking and consumers want them. Consumers aren’t choosing a crossover over a sedan purely because of a torsion beam.

I have a Cx90 with an I6 engine. I like its sporty chassis and steering feel and good fuel mileage. I don't like its cheap and noisy engine and motor sound at idle, and the obvious gearbox jerkiness and drag during low-speed deceleration. A good-looking longitudinal straight six engine rear-wheel drive large SUV, it sounds like a BMW, its price is 45k, it's worth the price, you can't expect it to be as sporty as a BMW and as quiet and smooth as a Lexus.
