- Microvision (MVIS) held an investor day where Sumit Sharma and Anubhav Verma stood in front of eager to learn investors and answered their questions for three hours straight and to show off their Automotive LiDAR Mavin DR for the ADAS market. I was there to catch it all, here are my thoughts.
I also took a ride along in the Microvision Test Vehicle with the A-Sample to see the LiDAR technology work before my own eyes. In this video, I try to simplify what youre seeing in the data and talk about my takeaways from the Q&A.

I dont think I strayed from what I saw or what was told to me directly by the engineers in the company. Which part did you find to be unbelievable?
@Art Ambo Cepton posts their specs, you can go read them on their own website. They have 6,000,000 points per second, Microvision has 14,000,000 - over double the resolution. Cepton has a 200meter range, Microvision has over 250 meters and I saw it with my own eyes in action. Cepton has a single field of view, Microvision has a Dynamic Field of view- three fields of view in one box.
When both companies are public with their stats, and those stats have been verified, it’s not an opinion on which set of specs is superior; it’s microvision.

@Art Ambo Sorry, I cant find all of the specs youre talking about with Cepton. Im more inclined to trust the actual engineers who built the MAVIN DR than a commenter on youtube, Im sure you can understand that.
To your comment about comments being deleted - thats a mystery to me, i have my channel set to accept all comments, even controversial ones. I dont delete anything because I stand by everything I say. Its important you understand that my research isnt done on reddit or through google; I visit the companies in person and speak with engineers in person. I sit privately with the management and talk with them directly. Some of the fact checkers on stock twits have the same access - and I see them at these functions.
As for the 250 meters range for MVIS, thats not a claim someone made, i have video from when I was in the car, in the Microvision Jeep, watching the live data stream from the sensor itself, with range data. I cant comprehend how you want to trust a person on Stocktwits over a literal engineer who has witnessed the technology in action. Ive seen it; you cant get any more sure than watching the data, then looking up and seeing the car its tracking with your own eyes.
Time will tell who wins the contracts; in business its definitely not just who has the best specs; its who can make the deals. And THAT part, I have no knowledge about - I am not on speaking terms with the sales team, unfortunately. But something tells me neither are you.
@Art Ambo time has not already told who has won contracts. There are no production cars on the road with a lineup of Lidar enabled vehicles.
From my research, it looks like around 2026 model cars is where you’ll start seeing Lidar all over the place. And those are the deals that will make some number of companies and leave the rest behind.
Those are the deals that are being negotiated right now.
You’ve done a lot of research, I’ve done a lot of research, we’ve come to different conclusions about the likelihood of Microvision being one of the companies that makes it through the culling. That’s completely fine with me, I’m not on here telling anyone to buy the stock; I’m only sharing what I learn by going to visit these companies in person.

I received a notice today that your favorite company is releasing $75M worth of new stock. I know they may put that money to really good use. But in the short-term, I think that means the price of the existing shares will have to drop by a proportional amount. Hopefully, they will generate more revenue in the coming year and push that price back up up up.
Hey Roger! Yes, that is correct. However, they only ‘registered’ those shares to be ABLE to release them within 30 days.
At the investor meeting, the CEO talked about this as being something that makes potential large customers feel more comfortable that Microvision has the ammo they need to quickly ramp up production of the LiDAR units upon making a deal. If they exercise these shares, that signals that a deal is imminent!! Pretty good sign :)

Tesla's Full Self Driving is what I call a "90%" project - it will get to 90% completion and the last 10% will cost just as much as the 1st 90% and take just as long. FSD is now 6 years old and only 70% complete...
At some point, Elon is going to have to use Lidar or Radar - and pay for those of us who spent $10,000 for FSD to get that equipment installed in our Tesla.
FSD is in a lot of trouble - I mean a lot of trouble...like the company going bankrupt over not supplying a self-driving car as was promised to us.

I would like to applaud very long! If it weren't the doubts as to whether Mavin's technology can even be brought to market. To date, no contracts or partnerships have been announced. This makes me skeptical, especially when other competitors with lesser lidars already have partnerships. What is our management doing wrong or am I just not that patient anymore? But at least our bosses claim we are Best in Class. But only SS and AV claim that. No other company nor institution has confirmed this.
Well, importantly, no other company disputes it. No one has stated any of their stats as being better. Not the resolution, not the refresh rate, not the size of the form factor and most importantly, not the price. Sumit has been very publically saying we have the best hardware and no one at all has said otherwise.
Also, its a bit of a misunderstanding that other companies have design contracts. Sumit was clear at the meeting that all of the OEMs that other LiDAR companies have been publically working with have also sent in RFQs to Microvision, which means there is no exclusive contract with anyone. no one has a win yet. The race is fully on, and this would be the year to get them done so they can be ready for cars in 2026.

If you watch any presentation they will clearly state they are better size and stats. they wont call out any specific competitor and dispute the stats. I also dont think there is any reason for anyone to go out and try to debunk them. their lack of sales will debunk them alone.
@@partypooper8198 that’s the exact reason I go to such lengths to see ALL OF THE COMPANIES IN PERSON WITH MY OWN EYES.
Anything you find on the internet pales in comparison to me physically being present with the sensor in my own actual meaty hands. They were all at CES. I visited them all. I talked to them all. I gathered their stats. Your research is not as thorough as mine.

@@jnavonoD that last part may be the problem with your view on this. In order to win big, you need to bet on things that haven’t ever been done. If losing some money or having your money tied up for a couple of years is unsustainable then you should maybe stick to safer investments. Losing $100k won’t make me homeless; it won’t really change my life in any meaningful way. but gaining half a million will buy me a warehouse and that will be a game changer!

I am curious what you mean about the dog and pony show though; you’re commenting on a video where I literally flew to the company and witnessed the technology myself. No one’s faking anything. And I’ve also spoken directly with representatives from several OEMs at CES who told me Lidar is coming. I’m not sure what you’re not sure about.

And yet, Teslas already drive themselves without any expensive hardware. Lidar doesn’t scale and will soon be useless compare to data+cameras.
What "data"? What's the source of this " data"?
Germany already requires by law more than just cameras as a sensor for self driving applications. So it will need to be camera+radar or camera+lidar at least if they want autopilot in the EU.
Sumit at the meeting was very clear that they can scale Lidar production to meet literally any size demand.
There is scale. I’m pretty sure Tesla is the only one who’s figured out cameras to that degree, and even then, the Lidar data is more precise. I think both solutions will be employed at scale.

@@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE Tesla already won autonomy. They will licences the solution and 8 cameras is going to be a much cheaper option for any manufacturer. The visual spectrum has all the information necessary and much more than Lidar. That is why you can drive with your eyes and not by shooting lasers to estimate the distance from objects. Seeing that the object in front of you is a plastic bag than can be rolled over is much more useful than having the measured distance from an object you can’t assess and could be a rock. Knowing all the shapes and form a plastic bag could present itself comes from a lot of data that is being fed by every Tesla car already on the road training a model. LiDAR and Microvision could be useful in other industries, but not in driving. The randomness of roads can’t afford such raw input.
Anyway, great video. I like you energy and optimism. I just think the thesis is wrong.
@@ajelexBTC cool buzzwords, you still didn't answer what the input source of the "data" is. "Data" on its own is an ambiguous word. Did you mean camera+AI model data? At the end of the day that still just input from cameras, and won't be considered roadworthy in Germany which is head in setting autonomous driving laws compared to the rest of the world.
Has the hardware progressed since it was first revealed like 2 years ago?
Yes; after the acquisition of the Ibeo company, they were able to increase the data output of the point cloud from the 10 million points per second I said in this video to 14 million - 40% more data! I just found that out
