  • What is LiDAR and why is everyone telling you to invest in MVIS this month?
    Microvision is a company that makes a lidar module that is in contention to be used in millions of cars around the world for ADAS safety (auto breaking, lane changing, object avoidance) as well as future self driving cars and industrial robots and agriculture!
    MVIS Subreddit: / mvis
    There is something of a LiDAR "space race" taking place this year - Auto Manufacturers have decided that now is the time to add this technology into their tool kit to make cars safer and more convenient for everyone. They seem to be aiming for 2027 models, which means the engineering needs to start now! So the lidar race is on, and whoever told you to watch this video thinks that Microvision is well suited to take bit piece of that cake.

    Thankyou Nicholas, I knew that about ZF. ZF was also the company that brought Microvision to Ibeo.
    In that case, ZF would be the Tier1 company, which would cut into Microvision's profits.
    Maybe you are right and we will soon get the news that Mvis has won one or more RFQ's . that should be a catalyst for the share price.

    Older people with declining driving ability can look forward to driverless vehicles as a way of extending their ability to travel during their golden years. This technology has been marketed primarily to younger more tech savvy generations. The retirement age demographic may be another excellent opportunity.

    We are now YEARS into the self-driving technology race. MVIS can repeat their tired excuses as many times as they want but the bottom line remains - nobody wants MVIS. If the tech really was as life-changing as the MVIS fanboys claim, somebody would've bought them out by now or signed a deal. In reality, the demand doesn't match the claims of the MVIS' CEO or their fanboys.
    And btw, I've been hearing these same talking points for 3 years now. How many times are investors gonna give MVIS a pass on failed promises timelines, and claims of "talks" that lead nowhere?
    The opportunity cost of this investment, and the loss is insane.

      I imagine people continue to be patient with ALL of the LiDAR companies until the car companies start choosing winners. When there are 10 people in a race and its the middle of the race and no one is clearly in the lead, how do you call one of them a loser?
      That all said, they seemed pretty confident when I met with them, in person, in January, that they would be announcing their first major partnership in Q1. So you dont have to wait very long before you can make another comment about telling me so. But until the end of March, shut up.

      Face to face conversations aren't very useful because they can't share non-public information and because they are slick salesmen. The SEC files are a better source because they have to be a bit more truthful. The SEC files show a doomed company with no viable products or revenue for the last 30 years and now.

      That’s true; I wonder if an automotive LiDAR would improve those things, too!

  • @superlumic
    @superlumic 6 месяцев назад +1

    Lidar is not as promising as it seems, in simple words - it’s a higher fidelity ultrasonic sensor at best but much more expensive.
    Why you ask!
    LIDAR only tells you the distance to every point within some region. But it ONLY tells you the distance - nothing more.
    LIDAR depends on IR light reflections - it doesn’t work well on shiny surfaces (like cars, for example!) It produces artifacts like RADAR suffers from when (for example) you get a double-reflection from an interior corner.
    To make LIDAR work - you have to send out laser pulses into the world. What happens when 100 cars in your field of view are ALL using LIDAR. A hundred lasers - all scanning the world - shining light into each other’s sensors?
    And finally cost, it’s way more expensive to produce the sensor and compute the results.
    I would expect most automakers follow the Tesla path, use cameras as a general purpose 3D mapper

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE
      @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE  6 месяцев назад +2

      Most automakers have already came out to say they will be using LiDAR. Microvision has solved the problem of competing laser beams messing with the data and their module comes in a $500. That’s cheaper than teslas super computer which is necessarily to do all of the crazy triangulation calculations when using cameras. Cameras are also not exceptionally good at changing ambient light scenes like when you drive into a tunnel.
      Nevertheless, LiDAR *is* coming.

    • @superlumic
      @superlumic 6 месяцев назад

      @@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE I work in AI/ML and I know for a fact that the cost of training networks has fallen considerably. And Tesla’s primarily use pre-trained networks in their - i.e. once the ML model is trained it can just perform on its own.
      This has long term effects not just in the automotive industry but also in other applications.
      1$ cameras x10 vs $500 lidar x10 (plus computation costs to run it in the car) now starts to sound a lot like the deciding factor.
      I’m not discounting lidar technology, it has its use cases - just not convinced that auto will find its use

      for sure. It's Not related to the future of LiDAR. I just doubt that MicroVision will have a future in the LiDAR market. No RFQ's have been won yet and OEM's are very skeptical about small companies. Precisely because mass production cant be guaranteed. What ever, i Hope the best for the shareholders.

    Hi, how are those t-shirts doing? You know, the ones that said 'MicroVision - Summer of RFQ'. Let me guess, it's out of the hands of MVIS and you're waiting on OEMs. That seems like the standard answer but doesn't answer why Sharma lied. He's either highly incompetent or a swindler. And guys like you parrot his bogus talking points for years.

      @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE  6 месяцев назад

      Hello! So I sold off enough of them to cover the cost, it was a fun project and a bit of a miss on the message.
      Sure, I guess you could say Sumit lied or was incompetent; but that would imply that the entire LiDAR industry lied or was incompetent. It’s more likely that the timeline shifted.
      I’m not any more happy about it than you; I have quite a bit invested in various LiDAR suppliers.
      Once there are winners and losers only THEN can the discussion of who was incompetent in the race. I’m sure you’ll be watching; thanks for taking the time to comment.

    You've been moving the goal posts along with your CEO Sumit Sharma for a couple of years. MicroVision started on automotive lidar in 2011. They got surpassed by better companies with better technology. MicroVision had to buy a bankrupt company called Ibeo because MVIS was so far behind. The only (small) deals and (small) revenue come from Ibeo, not from the MicroVision-developed tech that you touted for the last couple years.
