Hi, maybe you can help me with a startup question. I have a Lenovo Flex 5 laptop that is usually always on and tucked away in a cubbyhole on my desk. Do you know of a way I can turn it on / start it up without opening the lid? Normally I just let it sleep when it wants, and jiggling the mouse wakes it up. But if it is in hibernate or shutdown, just pressing the "Power" button the side does not do anything. I have to remove the laptop from its cubbyhole, open the lid, and then the Power button works. I can reach the power button when it's in its cubbyhole, but can't open the lid without taking it out. Any thoughts on how to turn it on without opening the lid? Thanks!

Great question! 😊 For the Lenovo Flex 5, you can try enabling Wake on AC in the BIOS. This allows the laptop to power on when plugged in. Alternatively, some laptops support Wake on LAN or USB devices (like a mouse or keyboard) to wake them up. Check your BIOS/UEFI settings or Windows Power Options for these features. If the Power button isn’t working when the lid is closed, it might be due to Lenovo’s power management settings, so updating the BIOS or drivers might help too. Let me know how it works!

How about Alt-F4 followed by ?

Alt+F4 followed by Enter is definitely a classic and quick way to shut down! 🚀 The 'Slide to Shut Down' feature, though, is more like a hidden gem for touch or hybrid devices-simple and fun to use. Thanks for sharing your tip!

Here is another situation: as a result of some kind of an error in a windows system or virus/malware or pc hijack attempt, first you press on power button but pc does not shuts down for any reason above. In my case, a long press on power button will always shut down my pc. I used this method on several occasions in the past with different MB or Power Supply.

Thanks for sharing your experience! 😊 A long press on the power button is indeed a last-resort method to force shutdown a PC in cases of system errors, malware, or unresponsiveness. Just keep in mind that frequent use of this method can potentially cause data corruption or hardware issues. If this happens often, I recommend checking for malware or running a system diagnostic to identify the root cause. Thanks for watching and contributing to the discussion!

For a quick way to shutdown it seems ok, but a shutdown menu with touch buttons for different functions like reboot or logout would be more practical, like a quick access shutdown menu as many tablets and phones offer.
(Hint: focusing mouse cursor to the desktop and pressing Alt+F4 will shutdown windows too, in a quick way.
Edit: without the necessity of any commands or desktop shortcuts).

Great point! 😊 A quick access menu with more options like reboot or logout would definitely be practical. The Alt+F4 shortcut is a solid tip too-thanks for sharing! I'll consider covering more efficient shutdown and restart tricks in future videos. Stay tuned!

Don't know what use this is if there is the shutdown button already. What I would like to know is why my laptop (Windows 10) sometimes instead of shutting down it restarts again and then I have to press and hold the power off button for it to shut down. Any clues please? Thank you...

    • @geekyhacks
      @geekyhacks  15 дней назад

Great question! 😊 The issue you described could be due to Fast Startup being enabled in Windows 10. Fast Startup can sometimes cause the system to restart instead of shutting down.
      Here’s how to fix it:
      1. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
      2. Click Choose what the power buttons do.
      3. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
      4. Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save changes.
This should help! Let me know if it works.

Too slow, too many steps. Faster way. Create shortcut with command "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 0". Pin shortcut to taskbar. One click on taskbar icon shuts down immediately.
