  • Piston to valve check on this High comp K24 block with K20 cylinder head (Type R cams)
Using the TracTuff VTC claying kit with the aid of some JEGS test valve springs I go through the process of checking the all important piston to valve clearances to ensure we have the room to send the build on the dyno!

I appreciate that! Once you've done it, or even just seen it done.. it all makes sense haha these motors are really all just "lefty loosey, righty tighty" with some bolts having to be a certain torque 👌

How long have you been building engines, you are very too the book, and you definitely know your builds. Kinda jaw dropping, the amount of work goes into the work. I have a 05 Rsx type s. Wish I could have a k24 Frankenstein build. I have $3,500.00 and want it to be just a drop off build. Would that enough for a build that basically would be a new engine drop in??????

Cheers man, I try to do my best all ways haha
3500 would get you pretty far if I were building it, however a bigger shop, that will cover some of the labor but not many if any parts haha The best thing to do is invest in parts that will be usable on both the K20 and K24 and work your way towards that goal! I.E tunable ecu, 3" cat back exhaust, Hybrid racing intake and 3" throttle body, check on your suspension and brakes too, the k24 is a far torquer motor an will highlight any faults in the braking and suspension department pretty quick. Buy your K24 block, CRV side mount, lightweight flywheel, ARP head studs, new head gasket, HD clutch and all your fluids for the swap too.. just put it all to the side, take your time and then when you have it all.. Boom! Clean fast and easy K24/K20 built rsx!!

looks like you were using a new headgasket to check but do you need to account for uncrushed thickness of the gasket or does that amount not matter? i chucked out my old headgasket when i tore the engine apart and am unsure about using my new one because i hear you cant re use after its been crushed.

So you pretty much need to do one cylinder and done?

Correct! Simple but not haha I run the motor through twice, the full process, to make sure I get accurate readings.
