Thanks Jim, can confirm that the whiskey here is indeed sourced from GND. Visited the distillery back in July and they were happy to confirm the source of their Silkie blends. Also got to try some of their own distillates at various stages of maturation. The pot still that had been 18 months in a sherry butt was particularly good. Look forward to tasting that one again when it’s officially released. The distillery tour is recommended if you’re in the area. Knowledgeable team and members of the family who own the place there to answer questions and share their passion for what they are doing.
Hi Jim thanks so much for the review, glad the Dark Silkie passed muster! Happy to confirm that the current whiskeys are all GND though have used Cooley too in the past. They are all NCF (can’t afford the unit) and Natural Colour. The grain whiskey in Dark Silkie is all virgin oak which maybe impacts the finish? We do call out that we source and blend on the neck and we won’t label anything from the distillery unless it’s distilled there. Would love Silkie to become a staple brand in the whiskey world and as we only make peated irish for ourselves we will have to always source / swap non peated malt and grain whiskey from / with others. The recent Sliabh Liag bottling was well over 100 ppm just frustrated I didn’t make enough and all at Ardara is medium and heavy peat triple distilled grains in. Hope to see you soon. Keep spreading the word James
Many thanks for reaching out James. Haven't made it over to the distillery yet but, working in the whiskey shop, we have people in regularly raving about how good the experience you guys are providing is so...will definately get over sometime in the new year. Keep up the good work sir. Best wishes.
You have came to the dark side off whiskey lol. You may have a influencer not to for away from you lol. I think they have a great selection of blended whiskeys for everyone . Good to see you do a little change up
I enjoyed my sample of the Dark. Yes, sourced, but I appreciated it. I have not had the waterford peated, but certainly willing to try. Thanks for your thoughts, cheers!
I've been curious about this one and the Midnight too, so enjoyed hearing your thoughts 👍. I actually think they may have this at the whisky bar that Tom and I meet up at here in Tucson, so will make a mental note to try them. Cheers!
Best way to try it Drew. Truth is...this ain't gonna stand up to ANY half decent malt from Scotland. But...once again...as an Irish, sourced blend...it ain't bad. Cheers buddy.
I find it interesting that whereas I bring the glass (at an angle) up to my nose, you bring your nose down to the glass which takes your face off camera. But you do bring the glass up to your face to sip from it. Have you ever tried smelling from the glass by bringing it up to your nose and try smelling it from different angles? I like the Dark Silkie, Andalusia Distillery’s Peated whisky is very similar but more intense due to the Texas climate.

Cheers Craig. The distillery looks fantastic. Will definately make a point of visiting. Thanks buddy.
I loved the salt mention and marking it off in your notes- classic Novice! Good review, too.
Cheers Bud 😉
Thanks for the review. See you soon.
Loved the intro. 😂😂

Fantastic whiskey, something very different in the Irish whiskey landscape. I have it in cask strength which is something to behold.

Nice review Jim. Keep up the amazing work. (Work 😂)
Interesting review Jim 👍.

Much like MGP rye in the states - lots of misleading marketing, but sometimes a sourced whisky is a banger!
Does the Friend at Hand stock this, Jim?
Yes mate.
😂😂😂😂😂 salty
