To help give context: Torii gates are an important symbol to Shintoism, like the cross for Christianity & the Star of David for Judaism. Having a partial or destroy torii gate is basically desecrating a religious symbol like those.
The one legged torii gate for the Sannō Shrine in Nagasaki was 800 meters/half a mile from where the bomb detonated, and that one leg was what survived.
Additionally, the dropping of the bombs is a traumatic subject for the country, a big taboo. When the Japanese surrendered after the bombs were dropped, they wanted to voluntarily disband their military, something even the Americans didn’t want. That’s how hard it affected them.
Ubisoft basically just reopened an old wound, whether intended or not.

Ubisoft thought that they could bastardize Japanese culture like they do with ours, not realizing how their culture is full of details and meanings, and how every gesture, word, and the very attitude has been permeated by their unique culture and history. Torii gates are very important. They divide the human world to the world of the Gods, and Japanese people bow before traversing them. Japan doesn't deal with their sacred things like we do.
