To be fair, AC was never a pure stealth game (I wish it was, I love this genre), there was plenty of combat on it. This game had the chance to be 100% stealth in a cool way, instead, randomly Ubisoft decided Star Wars Outlaws as the stealth game lol who looks at Han Solo and imagine the character sneaking around? Anyway, a pure stealth AC game would felt like a novelty, Splinter Cell open world featuring ninjas, even people who have prejudices towards stealth games (it's a super niched genre, sadly), even these players would be at least curious to fulfill the ninja fantasy as much as possible (including Hitman disguises, as they should be. By the way, Age of Empires 4 of all things have a very cool depiction of ninjas). But it's the usual soulless Ubisoft approach, they include action (and later bloated rpg elements) on a game series about ninjas because they want to attract as much people as possible, so they mix a lot of stuff, trying to make a game for "everyone", in the end the game struggles to execute the multiple concepts. Again, Outlaws is the perfect example, 20 different systems and they all feel subpar, even the cover shooter (the devs specialty, they are the ones who worked on The Division 1 and 2)
I'm not even Japanese. I'm a black dude from Los Angeles. The entirety of my knowledge of Japanese culture comes from anime and video games, but there were certain things I saw in this trailer and the reveal trailer that I saw and was like "Hmm...that doesn't look right..." I noticed the statue thing too and I didn't know that it's not permitted to be depicted in media, I just knew that in anime and games, that exact shrine is usually seen empty and without the statue. For them to use the statue without permission is a scummy thing to do.
I gotta ask, if its taboo to depict the statue, who cares? Like how Muslims dont like depicting Muhammad, if its not meant to be insulting then whats the issue? They are trying to depict the setting (horribly for the most part) and immerse you in the culture. Imagine if all the iconography was removed from the first AC games like Islamic and Christian symbols, Crescents and Crosses, Mosques and Churches removed from the setting, how less immersive would it feel.
@@liamgibson8602 Japan asks us to respect their culture nicely while Muslims use violence. I rather change something out of respect rather than fear and see no problem respecting Japanese culture especially since it takes almost nothing away from the end product. AC1 was also handled with much more care and love and they didn't abuse history nearly as much as they do now. Your point would have a little more ground to stand on if Ubi was still making good games and if AC1 was nearly as controversial for depicting something like Muhammad and wasn't just religious fanfiction almost no one had a problem with.

Ubisoft has proven that we can have a mix of those three fighting styles/classes and still stay true to the series' main gameplay mechanics but no! Just make a whole different class because "diversity of gameplay" or something.
While the actual good Assassin's Creed titles never shied away from open combat, it was usually only when the game forced it on you or because you had screwed up. And the combat could be challenging or tedious, which helped for the theme. You're not a warrior, you're not a soldier, YOU'RE AN ASSASSIN. Your job is to stealthily and discreetly take out targets, so getting into open combat means you failed. While certainly, mechanics were introduced that let you more easily wipe out enemies (execution streak comes to mind), enemies also had different resistances and abilities that you had to remember and fight around. It made combat more challenging. Now, it's all the same. Parry the enemy unless they glow red, then dodge instead, then unleash your super duper power skill. All enemies are the same, just with more or less health. It's mindless hack and slash where you can solo fight an entire fort of enemies, instead of wanting to stealthily sneak in and by them. I've literally handicapped myself in AC games from Origins onwards just to not simply speed run through the games by simply yoloing in and wiping everyone out.
@@lmahu6627 But isn't the lack of open fights more accurate? And unique? I recall that even IF you do openly fight and kill in old AC games. It's clearly JUST for fun. Something to do if you want to take a break from doing the main story. You still technically FAIL a mission if you fight like Yasuke. So it feels like they're treating Yasuke as a JOKE with the way we HAVE to use him as a tank warrior in a game about ASSASSINS. Where it's now MANDATORY to fight in the middle of day- not even a stealth kill just a full on brawl. Kill more than the main target, WHILE surrounded with a bunch of witnesses... and loudly rams through gates. Again... in a game about STEALTH. Honestly, all they had to do with the play style is be hitman with parkour. It's what made them stand out. If we wanted to just brawl in the open and kill needlessly without focus or any sort of strategy, there's a TON of games out there.
I've worked on roofs here in Japan for more than 20 years , and there's no way they would have made a wooden door on a kawara yane (roof). And actually , if you walk on kawara yane it makes a lot of sound , and break easily if you step on a weak spot so I don't think ninjas or any kind of spy would actually walk on a that type of roof . Yeah , it's just a game...I'm just nit-picking at this point ^^

I'm a Korean, and while I'm not that well versed in Japanese culture I do know about it due to our countries sharing similar culture based on Confucianism. I didn't complain much when I played Ghost of Tsushima despite being historically wrong because for one the creators claimed it was a fantasy and secondly the game itself blended Samurai culture into the game so well that it didn't matter in the end. I could feel the respect the devs had for Japanese culture and I appreciated it. Watching AC Shadows trailer made my blood boil and I had to stop myself from making racist comments due to how poor everything was done. It almost made me hate everything about French and Black people due to how disrespecting they were towards asian audiences. I'm glad the world disagrees with Ubisoft and by extension Afrocentrism.
this made me agree with all of the hate for french people. i always thought those memes of them always being hated and made fun of and such were whatever but now i agree with 100% all of them
Don't blame Black people for this... did you notice that in the entire video, all of the people talking about the design philosophy of the game are White? The people who are making the decision to have Yasuke be a main character are certainly mostly White people in upper-level positions. They do not know how to respect Japanese culture, and they do not know better than to try and integrate diversity in a place it does not work. Imagine how compelling Yasuke might be as a side quest character. He would be an anomaly in the Japanese environment, but you could create a side story that plays off of what we actually know about Yasuke, and what could have been. This is not the fault of Black people at all. This is the fault of a corporation misappropriating diversity as "add a Black character to everything" in order to try and turn profits. Meanwhile, they defile the culture of the Japanese (Nara Daibutsu, half torii, etc.), despite their "interests" in diversity. This is not *real* diversity, this is just what subtly racist White people think diversity should look like. Also, hello from a fellow Korean.
If they wanted a "fish out of water" character in feudal Japan, they could've based a game around William Adams, an Englishman who became the first European Samurai, and it was during a very interesting time with culture and religious turmoil. But unfortunately he wasn't black so Ubisoft said no
tsk tsk, gotta be black Mr.Adams, come back next time I'm sure some company will turn him black at some point and say it's cannon thank you for watching!
They could also have done a game about Jules Brunet… but like William Adams he was white but French (America already took his story to make it American with Tom Cruise…)
Ghost of Tsushima was so good! The creators also made sure they did their homework and showed great respect. This is why their game was such a hit in Japan.
"there are enemies high on rooftops with ranged weapons" wow so innovative, surely different from the rooftop archers in 1, the rooftop archers in the ezio trilogy, the musketeers from 3 and black flag, etc.
What pisses me off is that they could’ve had BOTH AND technically have a fictional character if they used Hanzo Hattori since Hanzo was a title given to the head of the Iga clan.
let alone a samurai fully armored who runs on the roofs and jumps off them instead. you would probably be killed just by him landing on you at that point.

The most worrying thing about the trailer is how the devs are speaking so fervently about these duality concepts as if it's not the first time people have done these VERY basic concepts in games for decades, like they have re-invented the wheel or some shit. They are truly living in a bubble.
right, they're basically bragging about things that their previous games didn't have, when they're kind of old news at this point nice to know the features are there, but to make them a major selling point is out of touch thank you for watching!
because they think that any game that isn't made by a Western company isn't good.... How the Ubisoft devs ridiculed Elden Ring and it's open world when it came out.... They literally could of made a joint development with Capcom or Koei Tecmo or something and get actual Japanese devs to work on the game. But nah, that would just be too respectful for Ubisoft.
It's a novelty for Assassins Creed as a seri... oh wait, that London game made it first. I have no idea if that game follows the same cliche of man = strong (UGA BUGA, HULK STRONG), woman = sneaky/smarter/roguish (or whatever). But anyway, I commend Ubisoft for trying to spin the formula a little bit, it's something at least. Back when I still cared (in the Black Flag days, hyped for a future AC Japan), I expected a pure ninja game in Kyoto, like 80% stealth... then a sequel would feature a japanese pirate faction or something, they had a proper name, let me see.... Wako, yep, marauders who attacked the coast and so on, a similar dynamic to black flag, but using piracy cliches from Asia. Then, to complete the trilogy, move to either Korea or China... Korea would be more interesting because their antiquity is not represented on western mainstream media at all. We have a rough idea about China, mainstream media depicted them a lot, but Koreans are completely unknown for me... maybe k-pop interested people to research their history? Anyway, that ship has sailed, Ubisoft is arriving 10+ years too late, 5 years after Ghost of Tsushima, there's no public for this AC Shadows thing

that's why i stop play AC after 2 because fighting mechanic is boring no reason to do anything but counter
@@oratankbrotherhood has a cool mechanic where you can chain executions together, allowing you to one shot heavily armoured enemies.

Yeah that's pretty damn low. They put no effort.

くだらん!(KUDARAN!)
thank you for watching!
From the sounds of it he's not even a warrior. He sounds like a TANK.
@@usonohoshi6165 The assassin that's closest to a fighter/tank pre-Origins is Connor and he's still nimble and stealthy.
Yeah , it's just a game...I'm just nit-picking at this point ^^
thanks for the info!

@@scarecrowhobo He was a dick-washing baggage-carrier and holder of umbrellas. He didn't even get to toot like John Blanke did.
It is incredibly unlikely that he was anything even remotely resembling a bodyguard, besides the fact that he'd be expected to throw himself on the swords to protect his master, much like all other retainers.
@@bruh-bn3niif only you knew how much and for how long French people have actually been hoping for Ubisoft to sink
The French have a really bad problem with racism. Some of the most racist parts of the U.S. happen to also be former French colonies.

You know you messed up when your Japanese wife goes "Eeh?"

The hyper focused nitpicking is hilarious, I take this video as a humorous thing, it's not supposed to be serious. As a portuguese, it's like if a random couple hyper analyzed a open world videogame were the devs mixed portuguese and spanish cultures because most people think we are the same (hell, some people assume tango is spanish lol). I guess this mixing of japanese and chinese cultures is pretty common on western media, they are adjacent, but not the same. It's like saying Canadians + US = same, Brazil + Argentina = same and so on and on. Some people take offense to those kind of stereotypes, but I honestly don't care that much
Egypt bled Netflix for that Cleopatra fiasco. I expect nothing less from our Japanese brothers and sisters. You don't mess with people's culture. Greetings from Turkey.❤

Ubisoft thought they cooked with this one. But no… they’re just cooked. 😅
totally overcooked charcoal, lookin like Gandhi's flip flop
thank you for watching!
The most worrying thing about the trailer is how the devs are speaking so fervently about these duality concepts as if it's not the first time people have done these VERY basic concepts in games for decades, like they have re-invented the wheel or some shit. They are truly living in a bubble.
right, they're basically bragging about things that their previous games didn't have, when they're kind of old news at this point
nice to know the features are there, but to make them a major selling point is out of touch
thank you for watching!
@@DashBlue Yep hehe. And cheers, had a good laugh watching 😁
It's almost like they forgot they made Syndicate lol
because they think that any game that isn't made by a Western company isn't good....
The lady commentating is extremely observant. I'm very impressed how many things she notices
yeah , the other vids on the game is even crazier lol
YOOOOOO I knew eventually this would happen!! I called it on one of your first videos on AC shadows that Asmongold should get a hold of this! Btw grats on your sub count! You guys deserve this. Your stuff is so good, I had a blast when I first found your videos a couple months ago on AC shadows, it had me laughing so hard. Can't wait to see more!!

How does a South African have anything to do with Egyptian culture? That’s like saying an Italian should take offense to Germany misrepresentation
@@DavidLane-bd8cm Uh, maybe because Cleopatra was Greek and not Black? And that this is an Afrocentrist documentary that denies the existence of North African natives? You both have awesome chemistry together. Very funny watch!
You know what's really slimy, at 16:08 we see that Buddha statue which isn't allowed but Ubislop is doing it anyways, but back during AC: Unity Ubislop wouldn't use the stained glass art in Notre Dame Cathedral bc the French government would hit them with basically historical copyright, the disrespect Ubisoft is showing to Japan is egregious
Is depiction of Japanese Buddhist statues illegal in Japanese law? And if it is, would it affect foreign art projects?
I like the first thing a japanese would point out is that the rice fields right to a river would get flooded
meaning no rice harvest for the harvest season which is bad since japanese loves their rice
米は力だ!
(Rice is power!)
thank you for watching!
Here in the Philippines I do see plenty of rice fields near rivers.
But not THAT near I guess. 😅
@@MiguelBalarawfilipino here, not that near to what AC Shadows depicted. I’ve seen so many ricefields near rivers or creeks and there is a distance between the ricefields and bodies of water in order to keep the ricefields from getting flooded.
It's not just rice but other crops as well, In india we also don't have crops right next to a river, they're grown at a significant distance or the flowing water just erode the soil away or even flood it.
@@MiguelBalaraw You're correct to point that out. "Rice paddies cannot be next to rivers because they will flood" is total bullshit (you can easily verify this yourself with very basic research, just look at pictures online, or read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paddy_field). Most of the criticism the video makes is petty enough already, but this took the cake for me. This channel just cleverly exploits people's general ignorance for the sake of clicks.
