I understand your main concern of Yasuke being portrayed as a murderer or bad guy in Assassin's Creed Shadows, but you have to understand, this is a video game. And if you feel like Yasuke walking into a town like Fukuchiyama and murdering random Samurai soldiers, you can completely avoid confronting them if you do not wish to brutally murder them unless it's self defense. Why? Because this is a video game. If you don't wish to portray Yasuke as a murderer, go away from the fight. It's okay. There's no need to be upset over it, you're not forced to do something this terrible in the game if you don't want to. You also have to understand Yasuke is not hurting or killing these people because he enjoys it, but rather, he does it because either they attacked him first, which is not shown in the video you react to. Or if he's on a mission to take out corrupted figures in Japan who are starving their residents. Now again, if you believe Yasuke shouldn't be portrayed as the bad guy murderer, you DON'T HAVE TO play as Yasuke in that manner. Again, this is a video game where you have full control of the character. This is not really an issue.
@@DirtySam0410 Yasuke is meant to be "the Bruiser", an archetype used in many Ubisoft games (like AC Syndicate). So, it's obvious you're going to have to fight regardless. she brought up the fact decapitation is just an insulting way to execute someone. this isn't a VR game. you don't have the choice to kill them in any way possible. it's a set animation that plays. plus this is an RPG, and open combat will be inevitable. personally, I don't see a problem with the grotesque nature of the game for I am numb to such sights. but Yasuke is just a bit too violent and its inconsistent with his character, he doesn't need to stomp someone's head in while they're defenseless on the ground nor does he have to decapitate a man whose already loss and bleeding out. Her main concern wasn't Yasuke's depiction, it was the wider impact of the game and most importantly how it affects the image of Japan. for example, showing a barbaric Yasuke will likely degrade the African image in Japan as they have little representation. the game also portrays the hoax that the black slave trade was prosperous in Japan which is also a lie and lastly the game itself gets a lot of historical facts wrong, which is bad since the game will likely be a lot of peoples first experience with the more traditional side of Japanese history or more precisely the Sengoku period and it's important to the Japanese people it's done right and not half assed, like how Ubisoft did it. let me know if I got something wrong or I missed the point completely
@@calmomen6817 I understand that this is a romanticized version of Yasuke being portrayed as a bushi or samurai. When in reality, he's not. He was nothing more than just a sword bearer for Nobunaga. I understand that. And a lot of the killing animations in here are yes, very brutal and grotesque. But I would imagine since this is a FICTIONAL romanticized version of Yasuke being portrayed as a bushi instead of just a kosho, it would come to reason that the reason he has these brutal killing animations, it's because he is going to be fighting in war battles where Samurais fought and got brutally murdered. It's what bushi does. They're warriors. They fight in battles and use brutal methods like decapitations. And plus, I dont know if you notice this, there's enemy types in Shadows that are also giant brute archetypes using the same tactics and body physique as Yasuke. More over, this is a video game. And I understand that Ubisoft has fed people with narratives that this is going to be an "authentic" or "historically factual" game. And I would acknowledge, the statement they've put out recently wasn't really good. But it did establish one thing: The portrayal of Yasuke is included into AC Shadows being a completely fictional game, as all previous AC games always has been. Fiction. This is in no shape or form, trying to accurately portray Yasuke as he was in real life. Obviously, except for the part where he serves Nobunaga. And this is not the first time Yasuke has been portrayed as a Samurai in media. For example, the Nioh games, Samurai Warriors and also the Netflix anime titled Yasuke. Why is it a controversy now, but not when those other games and the anime does it? Why weren't people complaining then when Yasuke was also portrayed as a Samurai brutally murdering other Samurai soldiers from other clans? Lastly, I understand the historical and cultural inaccurate portrayals of Japan in Shadows. Like the wheat grass growing during Spring seasons while the cherry blossoms bloom? Or when rice farmers are planting during cherry blossoms Spring season? Or how the tatami mats are squares instead of large rectangles? Even tho the tatami mats complain is not an issue because that's a cinematic. Where as in game, they're actually largely rectangular and the ceiling is lower. Like how it's suppose to be. And this is an early build of the game. The devs have already expressed in the statement that the game is going to be constantly evolving and taking criticisms from you guys to hoping recreate Feudal Japan accurately as they can. So I suggest we wait to see more gameplay and reserve judgement until more is shown of the game. Hope we don't have to discuss further, but please understand that I am not saying you're wrong to feel this way about the game. But just trying to make you understand things from my perspective. Thanks :)
Im a black person and when i first saw this "yasuke" game it left a bad taste in my mouth. These companies are forcing diversity when theres no need to and at this point its just disrespecting a culture. If they wanted a black protagonist why not just make a game based in africa? The fact that they added a hiphop sound track to a game based in japan with a african protagonist is just stupid. I apologize to my japanese brothers and sisters. This is just sad.
Good for you man! sadly there are lot of black people out there defending this game just because the protagonist is black. in reality it only makes them look like a culture thief. Taking pride in other race cultures when clearly it's not theirs. That sort of mindset is embarrassing really. So it's good to know not all black people think like that
@@calisthetics Glad to hear! Black people have their history and pride of their own. There are lot of African empires and cultures that you can take pride from. I would gladly buy and play an AC game based on the Zulu tribe or the Songhai empire
The one thing i will say is not realistic is how Japanese characters react to a black man. I'm black myself but if i was a Japanese in that period I would be terrified to see a person with black skin because people didn't even know black people existed back then. When white people first came to my country in Africa, people where scared because they thought they were ghost so the old lady just casually talking to yasuke is weird.
@muhammadlee- it's also a documentary from the 20th-21st century, where the parents are at least aware of other nations. However, common folk from an isolationist country in the 15th-16th century, absolutely would have thought a mythical beast or apparition was attacking their town. They'd very likely run for their lives or hide and cry.
@@thevaughnenator3761 Unlikely. I think you think people are vastly more stupid than they actually are. Although they’d think it strange, they wouldn’t be so alarmed as to think a person with a dark complexion and different features as being a demon. Remember, Yasuke was a real person.
I'm glad that they made this change. Back in my day, it was allowed, and even then, I took issue with it, as a tool of revisionism, slander, or outright propaganda.
I am Nigerian born American, but I am so tired of companies trying to erase or rewrite history in their favor. Also, I think the game forgets that Yasuke was an African man. He was not a stereotypical Black American. It literally insults everyone 😭
The use of hip hop music is really disrespectful to both Japanese and Africans IMHO. They could have created an amazing combination of traditional African music and traditional Japanese music to create something truly unique and beautiful, but instead they lazily imposed African American culture on an African character. Hip Hop is very much part of American culture, not African or Japanese, it has no place in this game. Also portraying Yasuke as brutish feels like a racist stereotype as well as distorting what a samurai is.
@@garywintle8023 ummmm... the japanese put stuff like that in their games all the time... ever play any of the yakuza games? dynasty warriors games? ninja gaiden games? way of the samurai games? any of the final fantasy games.. japanese butcher and insert themselves into everybody's culture... all the games i mentioned have white folks conquering japan or ancient china.. and the games i mentioned were almost exclusively developed in japan blaring heavy metal and hard rock music, or jazzy blues music.. in the games i mentioned is hardly japanese culture. the lady in this video we're watching, isn't even wearing japanese clothes. look like western style shirts.
Ubisoft is just prejudiced as fuck. Woke is fundamentally all about "I want everyone to know how super duper open-minded I am about everything and I have to make a big song and dance about it to make is as apparent as possible and brag about it whenever possible so everyone knows I'm SO nice". Then they proceed to shoehorn individuals into contexts that make no sense making a complete joke out of them.
@@garywintle8023 Nah, I don't think the brute thing was meant to be an insult. He was described as very strong and I think Ubi just wanted a completely different playstyle than the Ninja girl.

Hello from the U.K. .. I’m not going to leave my opinion too much as my comment can be used by people as a negative against yours and Japanese people’s concerns. All I will say is I agree with you and I’m also fed up of them doing this to us in the U.K. and Ireland with our culture and history when changing it and making us be politically correct. For reference, who is "they" to you? Americans? Or the woke issue people? There are alot of those in America, but we are not supportive of this. At least 51% of people don't support it here, and the ones who do are typically city people with new money.

But most are too afraid to admit it for fear of being called a racist by overly eager woke idiots. So it's really not a woke or DEI problem. It's a idiot problem and most idiots are lacking the basic ability to accept that people can have opposing views from them without being whatever buzzword they're using at the time. Basically they need to destroy/silence anything and everything that doesn't fit their world view because they know their views can't hold up to scrutiny or opposition.
I'm what you would call woke. I'm African American man from the east coast. Just say your opinion, and don't worry about whether someone says you don't like black people (or trans/gay or feminism or whatever). That's the only way we can all escape the current woke agenda.
We don't believe you. I firmly believe a majority of black gamers want game to go in this direction, support it, and WILL BUY these games. I think you all are virtue signalling. To be fair - so are the Japanese. Their anime is some of the most racist programming on the planet, which depicts other cultures in a negative light more than any other medium. Both Africans and Japanese are racist. However, Ubisoft capitalizes on these sentiments and are ultimately responsible.
You don't have to love their culture just because they are black. In fact, you are allowed to not like or want their culture, and that won't make you a racist.
I don't mean to be racist, but in my country, Thailand, the giants have black or dark faces and hold batons like the Japanese oni. The scene where Yasuke holds a Kanabō baton and beats his enemies reminds me a lot of Thai giants and Japanese Oni.
Thank you for your valuable input. It is very interesting that Thailand, being in the same Asian region, has similar folklore to Japan. If UBI is intentionally portraying Yasuke as Oni, I think it is disrespectful to him.
I thank you for your video and I'm sorry that you feel the need to do it. I'm French white man and I completely understand your feelings. When facing criticizes for disrespecting other culture, western studios simply use the "you are racist" card. But it's 100% clear that they are the racist ones. I'm sorry to see what they are doing, Japanese people have my full sympathy.
It’s very interesting because no one complains about falsified history when it came to the Japanese woman there weren’t Japanese women running around as Ninaz but people were not upset. They are only upset when it is in black man I know Japanese people are racist. This is nothing new to me.
that is very true, think about it, if an university were to admit it was there fault for allowing Tomas lockley (fictional fantasy) yes it’s true he made almost everything up because there wasn’t enough story to write a book about, he made it up to make Japanese people seem like there the ones that popularized slaves and not European people. It’s something called white guilt in America, and if the Japanese university were to admit there mistake it would look very bad for there image thus they would lose all credibility. Also this won’t be the last time westerners will try to colonize your Japanese culture, next is your anime because western corporations have realized they can’t fix Hollywood because there messages and propaganda agenda has ruined any hope of it being good, so there trying invest into anime productions and make it for western audience.
There is something important to remember. That Thomas Lockley edits the Yasuke page of Encyclopædia Britannica. He even wrote lies on Britannica. And that page has still not been removed and Thomas Lockley has re-edited it. Britannica can no longer be trusted.
As a Black American, i love and admire Japan's culture and history. Ubisoft has dropped the ball big time. Representation at the expense of another group's history/culture, is not cool.
But why do you want "representation" in something that is supposed to be concerned with entertainment? Is it that hard for you to enjoy something because there are no black people in it? It's just a matter of when before paintings have mostly black people in them because otherwise you "don't feel represented and welcomed in the world of art," but here you are, pretending that you are unhappy with AC shadows.
many westerners "WOKE" the people who focus on racism, do not care about Asians or their history. They will use Asians for their political benefit, and then "Throw them under the bus". Asians are disposable to the people who use racism as a shield. Sadly Asians can not be quiet and let these small things slide, if they are quiet, it will get worse. These things are just the tip of the iceberg.

Hi, your english was fine, and I enjoyed watching this video. It's seemed to me that this game seems excessively violent compared to other games in the series, and I see you noticed that as well. I think you were spot on in saying they make him seem like a murderer, and it's always been my thought that this was done to send a poltical message of some sort. I certainly don't like to think that way, but it's hard to ignore. I've seen other comments recommend Ghost of Tsushima, and I agree. Tsushima is a great game, and far more culturally respectful.
Thank you for watching. There are other games with violent depictions. However, I think the point this time is not only that it is a brutal game, but also that it is a depiction with discriminatory and political intentions. I try not to mention discrimination as much as possible, but I have to speak on this issue. I hope that UBI will consider why this game is being criticized.
The one thing I can't understand about the approval of Ghost of Tsushima is that in this video she addresses that Yasuke beheading people and slaughtering people was not acceptable behavior for human beings, yet in Ghost of Tsushima he frequently decapitates people and while in Ghost mode he slaughters them mercilessly. So I ask, what is the difference? Especially considering Jin is portrayed as a respectable Samurai, and Yasuke is meant to be a fictional assassin.
I suggest there was no malicious intent, where the nature of the violence is no different than their decision to use a Japanese version of a hip-hop track on one of their trailer videos. They really think they’ve created a legitimate character because that’s how they think they act and what they want to see. I suggest that it is ‘virtue signaling gone bad’. p.s. in America, a lot of Chinese has have opened up convenience stores in ghetto neighborhoods because no one else will, and that in turn has led to resentment of Asians in general by blacks in the ghetto in genera. Which in turn has led to blacks attacking Asians just because they are Asian (typically in urban settings). UBISoft just went with the stereotype.
Thank you for such a beautiful video. You must really have worked hard to do this all this in a foreign language to you. On top of that you showed genuine concern, not only for the bad image this creates for Japanese history but also how this approach is an insult to Yasuke and black people as a whole. I myself am a foreigner who lives in Japan and of the reasons why I love your people so much is exactly because of the way how you are able to show genuine concern in a respectful manner as you did in this video. I'm really sad to see that a thing like a video game, that is supposed to lighten up our lives is cause for so much disrespect against your countries history and culture as a whole.
Please do not apologise. We know that not all foreign people are bad people. Of course, that is a given. I'm glad you understand our foreign culture. Thank you so much.
I see you've played the game in it's entirety or at least you are aware of the story and know how it is set up and what happens during it. Please, go ahead and give us your review.
I'm a black man living in the US who also loves Japanese history, and I agree with you. I have no problem with Yasuke being a samurai, but the PV portrays him like a murderer, and not like a samurai or bushi who's job is to keep the peace. Yasuke was certainly a small part of Japanese history, even though he was not a samurai in actual history, but if UBI wants to portray him as one, then they should do so with respect to both the character and Japanese culture. There are also historical and cultural inaccuracies in the game that have been pointed out by other Japanese RUclips channels that have been addressed by UBI: the seasons appear to be inaccurate, Yasuke wearing armor in public is inaccurate, Yasuke as a samurai is unconfirmed information, and the Kanabo war club is too large for the character to wield; historically, the Kanabo was much thinner, and one of that thickness is only seen in statues of demons like the oni. The game feels like its portraying medieval Japan through an uninformed Western lense, rather than a game made by a team that made extensive research into Japanese history and Japanese culture. As for the game itself, the samurai combat looks too stiff and slow. Ghost of Tsushima felt more like a historical video game, even though much of its story and portrayal is fantastical. This is because the development team researched the weapons, clothing, fighting styles, etc. of medieval Japan thoroughly and with respect, to the poinnt where the two head developers from Sucker Punch were made ambassadors of Tsushima by the Japanese government. If Sucker Punch can portray Japan with respect, then why not UBI? EDIT: I almost forgot to mention, but your English is very good! You did a great job with this video, and thank you for adding subtitles! I know I'm a US viewer, but you've definitely earned a subscription!
You do understand that no AC games have ever been perfectly historically accurate, right? People not existing during the time period, people not being there during the time period, landmarks not belonging to the time period, things done during a certain season but it's not the same season (say hi to Origins)... Y'all need to leave that aspect of your whining because Italians didn't complain, Egyptians didn't complain, Frenchies didn't complain, Greeks didn't complain... and they all noticed the discrepancies. Like the Japanese government said itself: it's a piece of fictional history. Y'all cried about the Irish white man in Nioh or not? Just say that y'all want to be part of that virtue signaling bandwagon and don't buy the game.
@@frostieschocopop I feel you bro. Its because he is melanated ! That's it ! These people psyche won't let them admit it out loud in the open ! Ubi will put out the game anyway no matter how many Japanese people Caucasians pay off to make videos disagreeing with the game... SMH.
@@frostieschocopop I didn't cry about William Adams being in Nioh. And do you know why? Because Adams (known in Japan as Miura Anjin) DID exist in history. His time s a navgator and samurai is well recorded by Japanese historians, and he even has a park named after him, where he's also buried. The difference here is that Nioh didn't try to adhere to history, and never said it did. AC devs could have a better understanding of Greek and Italian history because it's well documented. I mean, come on, the devs made a near 1:1 replica of France during the Terror. Is there any reason why UBI couldn't put in the same amount of work? What's their excuse? Is it fictional history? Yes... so could you tell that the the AC devs, who touted that their games followed as close to history as it can? They very clearly didn't consult with any Japanese historians and gave no attention to how Japanese players would respond, going as far as putting words in their mouths and saying that they weren't offended, and that anyone who did was racist. Their latest PV showed that they have little to now knowledge of Japanese history, and didn't care to even address it. And the only address they've made to the public was a "whoops, my bad" excuse. That's not good enough. They're not offending just gamers like me, they're offending an entire country, some of which have made tweets and videos here on thsi platform to address their grievances. You ignore that and call it whining. Ghost of Tsushima developered clearly made a fantastical version of Tsushima Island, and yet the main devs responsible for the game were made ambassadors to the island and complimented by Japanese players. And that's because those devlopers showed respect for Japan and the culture, UBI doesn't. They did research on the types of buildings, weapons, the mongul language, the clothing, and a ton of other things to make it feel like you were actually in medieval Japan in a time of strife. Can you give me a reason why UBI couldn't give their game the same attention? Me personally, I'm not buying this game, and I'm not buying it because I already own it. It's called Ghost of Tsushima. AC Shadows is an UBI game, and so it's bound to fail, be loaded with microtransations, and written and developed by a company that doesn't care. So no, I'm not gonna buy the game, but I stand with a lot of the Japanese players who are similarly frustrated with UBI's approach to this game.
@@frostieschocopop I would say the bar is higher because Japan has been the dominant force in video games for as long as I’ve been alive. Sloppy stuff that may have been good enough for other settings just isn’t going to cut it in a setting that’s been done well countless times by Japanese companies. I’m not offended so much as sitting back and laughing at this mediocre European company’s hubris.
thanks to the fact that you made the video in english, i was able to understand your point of view. thanks for that. i would also be worried and upset if a foreign studio made a game that disrespected the history of my country, without doing proper research, i just hope that this does not become a new trend in studios. greetings from argentina.

Also, you did a great job with your English 🤗 I'm a Hispanic and English is my second language and you did great. I wish I could have also learned Japanese while growing up 😭. Thank you so much for your opinions on this matter. ❤️
Many in America are against this game. You can check RUclipsrs who are outraged. Developer of the game Ubisoft is racist against Japan and promotes a gay black.
Are you aware japanese people during the Samurai period were very open to same sex relationships? Homophobia in Japan started with the arrival od first christians, and even though christianity today isnt prevalent in Japan, the homophobia stayed
But Jin Sakai the samurai in Ghost of Tsushima snuck around and decapitated people from behind, no matter if you played honorably the rest of the time. It was part of the story. Were you ok with that? Why no problem?
@@minbari73There is an ideological difference. Assassyun are a different class with their own protocols, not your typical cutthroats who lurk in the bushes. The op is correct, Samurai are not Assassyun. And neither are Shinobi. Ubisoft poorly approached this and tried to meld everything together based on superficial similarities in order to ease marketing and create mass appeal. Didn't work.
I'm so glad you brought this issue up. It is very sad that in other countries there are said to have been a large number of black samurai who did not exist. There should be records in books from other countries who came to Japan. The Narrative of Commodore Perry's Expedition to Japan, written by Perry when he arrived in Japan in 1835, contains no such record. Yasuke certainly existed, but all the information about other black people is a lie. At that time, there was no reason for foreigners coming to Japan to record lies and bring them back with them.

Wonderful video and gives me a better understanding the thoughts of the Japanese people! Thank you!
As an Englishman I'd never heard of this Yasuke, but i did expect a game which takes place in Japan to feature a Japanese protagonist. If the makers of the game wanted a non Japanese Samurai they could've included William Adams, an Englishman who became a Samurai in Japan, i believe he has descendants in Japan today.
@@cotton_3939channelhello but this company made it clear it was fiction not historical fact. Every AC game says its a work of fiction inspired by historical events. So Yasuke portrayal is all fiction for the most part.

@@Vespyr_ hmmm, ahhuh Ubisoft said that Yasuke is shrouded in mystery and not much is known about him which is why he would be the perfect fit for the narrative to tell there story, they said that he is a historical person not that everything about him in the game is historical fact, infact that has never been the case with any historical person in each AC game. This Japanese woman clearly never played any AC game a day in her life and clearly doesn't understand that's none of the games are historically accurate at all, wtf is this an argument at this point. AC shadows looks phenomenal so far and doesn't do anything out of the ordinary and respects Japanese setting and culture just like previous titles respecting there settings. Hi. Your English is fine, perfectly understandable. You are not alone in finding this most disrespectful to Japan, its people, and Japanese culture. A huge number of people in the West are also upset with how UBI have acted here, and disgusted by the actions of Thomas Lockley. Sadly, there are a lot of dishonest and dishonourable people in the world. A good video from you. Thank you.
The Problem is majority of western media dictate and judge asian culture by their views only. They don't care asian. For example, I saw some western people calling japanese and korean are racists ( I am korean by the way) The reason why the person calling us racists because he has been to japan and korea and tried to communicated random people in english and they ignored him and walked away. This is so arrogant conclusion. Because most native japanese and korean don't speak english well so they can't answer most likely. As a big fan of AC franchise. I was hoping to see it with japanese history and maybe with korea too in future. But now I am kinda glad they don't care about korea.
Those people do not represent ordinary western people. Ordinary people respect culture. The western people you saw is what we call grifters. They do such things on purpose, in order to create an image of being a victim. So they can recieve money, more views and create a group of viewers that will support them. It is very sad. But internet gave a path to be seen, for many peple like this. It is profitable for them. The big western media also pushes this, since it has ties to political motivation, ideas and agenda.
Thank you for this video. I think it’s very important for Japanese people to speak out about this, especially in English, so it’s clear to the world that you care and why. Because both the studios and journalists try to frame it as exclusively white racists having a problem with the game. As someone who loves Japan and Japanese culture and history this game is an abomination.
Greetings from Canada. Thanks for uploading this video. It still infuriates me on how tone deaf UBISoft is in this entire debacle. I will try to get this signal boosted on social media. Players and concerned parties deserve to watch this, because still the narrative is infested with the ignorant opinion that "It's just someone pretending to be Japanese! Opinion invalidated!" And you've earned a new subscriber for being earnest and wholesome.
You have the right to defend Japanese legacy. I'm from Poland, so I understand what this is. West is trying to belittle us as well, since a long time. I don't know about Japanese Major at University, but for example Japan is an Enigma in pre-university schools. People in my country learn about your country mainly because of Anime and Manga, not to mention, books about Japan are very rare in Bookshops. So Wikipedia, Hollywood movies and games are our main source of knowledge. That's why, thank you for sharing. It makes things clearer for us to understand. Pozdrawiam ! :)
Defend that legacy sure, but is it really valid when the entire Assassin's Creed franchise has been mixing fantasy and reality since the beginning? Every person hanging shit on this game haven't played it, know what the actual story is, the reasons Yasuke is doing what he is doing or how it ties into AC lore. Do you?
@@minbari73 yes, if the character to depict the fantasy is a real person. And they way they handle Yasuke is simply horrendous. There need to be some boundaries. And it's now a fiction after the backlash. It was historically accurate before. On the Xbox page of the game there was written - you can learn about feudal Japan during the Sengoku period. Most famous period in the west. So yes mate, it's an issue.

Hello from France ! I discovered your YT channel with this video. Thank you for making the effort to speak in English because it is very interesting to have a real Japanese point of view on this game. Thank you for all these details. UBI being a French company I am even more ashamed of what they did with this game.
As a black man livining in the US, I highly appreciate you making this video. Ive noticed some inaccuracies with this game but I'll leave that for people who are more well versed in those fields to point out. Anyway, watching Yasuke's gameplay felt insulting to me. How he was excessively violent, he seemed more like an Oni than a samuria and you were right to point out that he seems much more like a criminal, and the music that plays while he fights was just icing on this crap cake. Ubisoft overall is just tone deaf and dropped the ball completely with everything to do with this game. And I am glad to say that i am not alone in this sentiment here in the US. A looooot of people are not happy with this and i hope a change can be made. Great video btw! Also, your english is pretty good. Keep it up!
I'm from egypt, during assassin's creed origin i was so happy about bayek he looked very egyptian and he was black. I would have been mad if a japanese person was the protagonist in origins that's why i understand your frustration because i want to play as a japanese samurai in shadows. for shadows im not happy about yasuke, in every AC game we played every era with a protagonist that represent the culture of that specific era so why not the case as well for japanese era? Ubisoft is trying to make it seem that we are complaining because of the skin color or race, no its not because of the skin color, in my opinion playing a protagonist that represent that era gives you more connection to the world.
Thank you for making this, people in America hate this and think it's wrong. The company keeps saying that Japanese viewers are loving this game but we all know that's a lie.
I’m an American and heard about this but hadn’t yet seen the gameplay. It is very tone deaf. In other words-I agree with you. I will say that a lot of people in the US do understand and are not happy with the portrayal. A lot of Americans agree and want better portrayals.
As a black man who adore Japanese culture…arigatou. Thank you for explaining to us from your POV. We really needed this. I always thought they are just doing Yasuke because of DEI is the new hip thing here in the states. Not knowing the actual history of him is the problem.

Please if you don't like these games play Kirby or Nintendo switch games like Super Mario
Her main concern wasn't Yasuke's depiction, it was the wider impact of the game and most importantly how it affects the image of Japan. for example, showing a barbaric Yasuke will likely degrade the African image in Japan as they have little representation. the game also portrays the hoax that the black slave trade was prosperous in Japan which is also a lie
and lastly the game itself gets a lot of historical facts wrong, which is bad since the game will likely be a lot of peoples first experience with the more traditional side of Japanese history or more precisely the Sengoku period and it's important to the Japanese people it's done right and not half assed, like how Ubisoft did it.
let me know if I got something wrong or I missed the point completely
But it did establish one thing:
The portrayal of Yasuke is included into AC Shadows being a completely fictional game, as all previous AC games always has been.
The use of hip hop music is really disrespectful to both Japanese and Africans IMHO. They could have created an amazing combination of traditional African music and traditional Japanese music to create something truly unique and beautiful, but instead they lazily imposed African American culture on an African character. But most are too afraid to admit it for fear of being called a racist by overly eager woke idiots. So it's really not a woke or DEI problem. It's a idiot problem and most idiots are lacking the basic ability to accept that people can have opposing views from them without being whatever buzzword they're using at the time. Basically they need to destroy/silence anything and everything that doesn't fit their world view because they know their views can't hold up to scrutiny or opposition.

that is very true, think about it, if an university were to admit it was there fault for allowing Tomas lockley (fictional fantasy) yes it’s true he made almost everything up because there wasn’t enough story to write a book about, he made it up to make Japanese people seem like there the ones that popularized slaves and not European people. It’s something called white guilt in America, and if the Japanese university were to admit there mistake it would look very bad for there image thus they would lose all credibility.

The first thing I'd like you to know is that what we are condemning is UBISoft's dishonesty as a company. The theory that Yasuke is a demon is just a trivial example to prove it. Personally, what annoys me the most is the disregard for the issue of copyright and theft of cultural property. (Flag of Sekigahara Gun Corps, Fusuma and ceiling paintings of Nijo Castle, lanterns of Todaiji Temple, etc.)
Remember what UBISoft proudly proclaimed at the game's launch?
1) Historically accurate 2) For that purpose, we hired three experts and also conducted research in Japan 3) Therefore, you can learn about Japanese history by playing this game.
Back to the main topic.
Even if Yasuke were a woman or a ninja, his actions would be considered barbaric, that is, the actions of a bandit or thief.
Ninjas are spies or assassins who seek out information and the actions of their targets. That's why you shouldn't stand out. In those days, towns and villages were small, and everyone around you knew each other. If an outsider came there, they would be suspicious. Therefore, ninjas disguised themselves as peddlers, street performers, or traveling monks so that even unfamiliar faces would not arouse suspicion. If you were a ninja, you would have killed your enemy without being noticed. If there was an employment test for ninjas, Yasuke would definitely have failed.
1) Are you concerned about historical accuracy? 2) Are the three experts really experts? 3) Can you learn Japanese history through games?
I would like to ask UBISoft again about these three points.

I would like to ask UBISoft again about these three points.
to Kagenoka,

They made him barbaric, not samurai.
Might as well call him an Oni, that sounds more befitting.
Your English is way better than my Japanese lol I can only understand basics for now
Thank you for watching.
I hope this helps to convey few of the issues.
@@cotton_3939channel Exactly the point I was making, yeah. Like, it feels intentional, and malicious in Shadows. It's kind of sad honestly.
@@Ariastyr Don't you know that Jin abandoned his bushido and became an "ONI" to protect the people of Tsushima and fought against the Mongolian army?

Thank you for such a beautiful video. You must really have worked hard to do this all this in a foreign language to you. On top of that you showed genuine concern, not only for the bad image this creates for Japanese history but also how this approach is an insult to Yasuke and black people as a whole. I myself am a foreigner who lives in Japan and of the reasons why I love your people so much is exactly because of the way how you are able to show genuine concern in a respectful manner as you did in this video.
@@frostieschocopopwhy would the Italians or frenchies complain?
The protagonists were Italian and French.

The Problem is majority of western media dictate and judge asian culture by their views only.
They don't care asian.
For example, I saw some western people calling japanese and korean are racists ( I am korean by the way)
The reason why the person calling us racists because he has been to japan and korea and tried to communicated random people in english and they ignored him and walked away.

Opinion invalidated!"
And you've earned a new subscriber for being earnest and wholesome.
勉強になりましたm(_ _)m
@@Mrukliwy What the hell are you talking about 'now a fiction' 'needs boundaries' - have you played the game? I haven't. You people are out of your minds. Pre-purchased twice.
@@minbari73 Good for you. I wonder? Should I be mad at you for wasting money twice? Have a blast you little Troll hahaha
How is the west belittling Poland?
Spaniard here.
Your english was clear enough to convey your message; it was very informative and calm.
You gained a subscriber just from that (and because of my admiration to your culture).
Many thanks for the video.
I am insulted by this. No one in America likes Ubisoft.
This game is pure evil from all angles.
Hello from France ! I discovered your YT channel with this video. Thank you for making the effort to speak in English because it is very interesting to have a real Japanese point of view on this game. Thank you for all these details. UBI being a French company I am even more ashamed of what they did with this game.
Oui, certes.
Keep it up!
Absolute nonsense from start to finish. If he was a huge Japanese man absolutely clobbering his enemies this "problem" wouldn't exist.
Yes! No sci-fi/fantasy versions of real historical characters! whinge whinge whinge
As a black man who adore Japanese culture…arigatou. Thank you for explaining to us from your POV. We really needed this. I always thought they are just doing Yasuke because of DEI is the new hip thing here in the states. Not knowing the actual history of him is the problem.
