@@hoshi314 that was basically the whole genre of assassin creed till roughly the AC Origins (2017) game, you want to visit France during the French revolution? then AC Unity is for you (just expect a lot of bugs), you wish to visit America during the seven years war? then AC Rogue is for you, London during the industrial revolution? AC Syndicate, Constantinople after the fall of the Byzantine Empire? AC Revelations, Italy during the Italian wars? then AC Brotherhood if I remember correctly one of the articles that was made about the first games essentially stated that the whole point of the Assassin Creed games was to essentially show off the history (in "macro-historical" term) of the places they visited to inspire young gamers to become interested in history. of course that was before they had a soft-reboot in 2017 where they seemed to have drunk the "slow but in French" elixirs (I still say that AC IV Black Flag is the best game they have made, it was so good that Ubisoft created a off-shoot game project called Skull and Bones; they failed rather severely on that one)
To me what's crazy is the fact that when Ghost of Tsushima was made it got flack for being created by a western studio despite the fact that the team actually did research and created a game that was fun but still managed to be respectful to the history of the setting but then we have Ubisoft who is being pushed so hard by every mainstream news source simply because they have a black main character despite them clearly showing that they do not care to be somewhat accurate let alone respectful.
for westerners it is hard to notice this is not japan, especially after many years of movies and games mixing traits from all asian countries together. They should have hired real japanese historians/experts to guide them
@@marcogenovesi8570 I disagree. Any time you get involved in a project like this, and do research, it's impossible not to notice the differences. They must have done no research at all and created models from memory based on what they saw in a movie. That, or even worse, they thought that Americans would not like actually Japanese architecture because it doesn't fit their idea of what "Japanese" is.
@@CrizzyEyes You don't "create models from memory" at this level of graphical fidelity. The actual 3D artists and animators need plenty of photos to use as a template of what they had to make. Also in big productions you don't have random people do google searches on their own. Each team is fed the media they need as a template by the creative leads (that will have to gather that with their own team and the consultants if any). All workers here are french and I have strong doubts any of them have any idea of the differences in asian architecture or how a rice field works. Somebody at the creative lead team did a bunch of google searches without really understanding, any consultant they hired didn't notice either, so the media was passed to the workers that are french and have zero ability to tell if this is accurate or not. And any subsequent check on the work done also was not done by anybody remotely competent so again it was not caught later either.
They should have just made Yasuke an informant to the assassins. Played on the whole “Hes more of a commodity” and he uses that to his advantage. Slowly learning japanese and giving the assassins information that Nobunaga and his allies spout around him cause they dont think he understands. Though maybe the conflict is that he does respect Nobunaga (through decent character writing that Ubisoft isn’t capable of) and you end up having to fight Yasuke at the end due to trying to kill Nobunaga. Ubisoft can get their checkbox and the damage they did in “respecting history” wouldnt be as egregious.
It's funny because right now we don't even know just how far they went with the story. For all we know he might be primarily Nobunaga's lover. It's also an interesting aspect of how we could use the ambiguity. Like we know that he understood some Japanese but we can estimate that the skill was limited. We know that he was strong but maybe he would participate in sumo. Heck, we don't even know how he spent his money. All of these questions could be a good basis for a story. For example, if he had to sneak because he couldn't be seen (we have a historical account of him attracting way too much attention). If he had to guess what's going on because he couldn't understand nor read everything. Would it be unlike Assasin's creed? Maybe, but why call it the 'perfect candidate' for a protagonist then..
That does sound like a cool way to use him as a character. Even if they wanted him to play a combat role I feel it would have been more fun for him to have a fighting style that doesn't conform to any particular discipline. He's from abroad and nobody knows much about him so he really could have an advantage in that area - but no, they had to go and make him a straight up samurai
As an American who moved to Japan over 2 years ago (being half Japanese my self) its really interesting having insight into both cultures, which has given me a better understanding of how much Ubisoft has defaced Japanese culture and history in order to be "inclusive". they claim its historically accurate but there is only a single "real" historical report and its vague at best. Ubisoft has shown they don't care about being respectful about Japan's religion or culture. I dearly hope it comes to bite them in the butt either legally or by other means. btw I'm very glad to have discovered this channel through Asmong and Ubishit's fuck up. I hope you keep up the very entertaining content.
Ubisoft is based in Montreal. The people who made this game are mostly FRENCH Canadians, the worst type of combo. French are very well known to be very ignorant AND arrogant.
The only thing they did here for inclusivity is picking yasuke for mc. The rest has nothing to do with inclusivity it's just lack of research and them being dumb enough to think they didn't need to consult an actual Japanese historian to ensure the accuracy of the depiction of Japan. It's due to a mix of the arrogance westerners tend to have when interacting with other cultures and Ubisoft's own brand of arrogance thinking they can just make fastfood games and present/price it as a gourmet game.
@@amuro9624 And Ubi-slop daring to call it a AAAA game????? I once visited Korea and barely saw the countryside while there, and came to appreciate WHY Korean geography is in so many games. The voice line for the Korea course in "Cruisin' Exotica" is "Korea is beautiful!" Totes true. :D
I really like the dynamic of this channel, having two hosts speaking (mostly) two separate languages but being able to fully understand each other. I hope I can achieve that level of fluency in a second language someday. Keep up the analysis - these videos are very enlightening to the "real" _(non-Ubi)_ Sengoku Japan!
Even the Japanese can really learn a lot. UBI said in an interview with a Japanese game magazine that it was fiction based on facts, so I'm struggling to confirm what is true.
@@satotot3739 this is not surprising There are scholars in Japan who stand up and say "Yasuke is a real samurai" Then within a few days, it was discovered that this Japanese scholar’s identity and academic qualifications were all fake. Moreover, the company he works with has financial relationships with financial institutions that promote DEI. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What’s even more interesting is that this fake Japanese scholar is a Communist member.
People can say "this is nit-picking" or "its unimportant details", but when its literally every detail, every frame, everywhere you look.... this is just embarrassing.
Yeah, couldn’t possibly be they are looking for things to complain about and so hyper fixated on the most consequential shit. Like that light source in the mountains that they said why is it there you’d have to climb up to it to light it. Yeah, it’s a Assassins Creed video game and those are probably there to draw players eyes towards points of interest. It’s not trying to create a fully realistic Japan but a video game set in Japan. Liberties will be taken for gameplay reasons. You could do this for every game set in a real world location but I suspect that the comment section wouldn’t be so happy if the game was developed by From or Rockstar. This is nothing but rage bait using certain gamers hate of Ubisoft.
@@BAD7667i agree that some of these are little nitpicks. but a lot of these are details that they should’ve gotten right, especially the architecture. it’s assassins creed, a game known for its historical accuracy, some of these details are just straight up wrong and yes they’re small, butting getting them right wouldn’t take that much more effort , so why are they wrong? older assassins creed really nailed the small details that brought these time periods to life, this game is just shitting all over it.
Everyone saying that "Naoe was Japanese hence this is a Japanese story with a black guy" are now absolutely wrong, it's a Japanese game with black and Chinese protagonists, wtf ubi
Ubi is counting on Western "tourist" who don't know anything about Japan accepting everything they say as, "This is the authentic Japan of this time period!" And to think, many years ago, Ubi was actually a decent company. How the mighty have fallen. That said, great and humorous video.
I know, right. They used to be one of my favorite game companies at the time until they slowly fell around... Ghost Recon (2001) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (2002) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003) Beyond Good & Evil (2003) Far Cry (2004) Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005) Assassin's Creed (2007) Far Cry 2 (2008) Assassin's Creed II (2009) Far Cry 3 (2012) Watch Dogs (2014) Ghost Recon: Wildlands (2017) Then, around 2020, everything collapsed for them, I believe. It's as if COVID took out their best employees or something and now they don't know what to do and gave certain tasks to those who are unskilled for the job. It's got to be it. I just can't see other reasons for that.
It's funny coz across various social media platforms, it seems westerners are the ones who give the most positive feedback on trailers and act as staunch defenders of the game. Clearly they don't care about giving Japanese culture the respect it deserves, regardless if the game doesn't need to be historically accurate or not. They just care about the game looking cool. 😂
Yeah, Ubi can only fool those normies who know nothing about Japan, Japanese culture and watch atrocious Americanized dubs of anime. Otherwise, a true Otaku who knows both the good and bad of the Japanese culture which he got during his quest for knowledge about the land of anime can never fall for this shit.

As a Japanese who has studied Noh for a bit, among the Hayashikata (taiko, otsuzumi, kotsuzumi, and flute), the otsuzumi and kotsuzumi players (the two in the middle) sometimes sit on chairs. Also, looking at old picture scrolls, it seems that the musicians do not necessarily wear black kimonos. 9:22 in Thailand we have both black and green bamboo shoot both are same species Rough Giant Bamboo but we breed them to make 2 type of bamboo shoot so maybe they just ref from asian bamboo
About bamboos, they don't grow leaves on the culm itself but it grows branch nodes on the culm first then leaves sprout from there. I see this a lot in bamboo but again, in this trailer, it boils down to sloppiness, which affects the immersion. I remember a Japanese commenter replied to me once about Japanese sword forging and he said that forging is done indoors during the day so it will help blacksmiths see the color of the flame clearly, which is impossible outdoors. In addition, I was weirded out when fantasy Yasuke was practicing Karate as Karate is Okinawan and at the time Yasuke was in Japan, the Ryukyu Kingdom (present day Okinawa), was an independent kingdom until 1609, when the Satsuma clan invaded it. So, there is no way karate was already in the mainland. In fact, the samurai were more versed in disarming and throws, which were the basis for Jujutsu (where Judo, Aikido and BJJ originated) since opponents are in armor and strikes wouldn't work.
Ubisoft continues to belittle, provoke, and insult Japan. The fact that they don't know "the real thing" is easily understood by the Japanese when they see the trailer, and it is terrible. It's Azuchi Castle, but the stone walls still exist. The real thing doesn't have this high stone wall. The way of stacking stone walls is completely different. This alone shows that there is no on-site investigation in Japan. It's like a cheap plastic model.

This is one of the reasons why asking for games like Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon is just not even worth it anymore. They don't know how to make a good game like the original developers did.

AC Syndicate, Constantinople after the fall of the Byzantine Empire? AC Revelations, Italy during the Italian wars? then AC Brotherhood
if I remember correctly one of the articles that was made about the first games essentially stated that the whole point of the Assassin Creed games was to essentially show off the history (in "macro-historical" term) of the places they visited to inspire young gamers to become interested in history. of course that was before they had a soft-reboot in 2017 where they seemed to have drunk the "slow but in French" elixirs (I still say that AC IV Black Flag is the best game they have made, it was so good that Ubisoft created a off-shoot game project called Skull and Bones; they failed rather severely on that one)

"Chinese, Korean, Japanese, same difference" - Ubisoft
Did nobody ask the question of "is this actually japanese?"
they probably used ai to do research but was all just hallucinations
for westerners it is hard to notice this is not japan, especially after many years of movies and games mixing traits from all asian countries together.
Yes men don't question. Also stop buying demo's they are supposed to pay ppl to test their games not the other way around
Ubisoft can get their checkbox and the damage they did in “respecting history” wouldnt be as egregious.
yeah if it was a blatantly fantasy story and they advertised it as such from the beginning it would've gone a lot better
thank you for watching!
@@DashBlueOf course man, you and your wife? girlfriend? Have good chemistry. Also pretty damn funny with the objective criticisms.
What you suggested to do with Yasuke is way more logical and sounds like a intriguing plotline.

Yeah, couldn’t possibly be they are looking for things to complain about and so hyper fixated on the most consequential shit. Like that light source in the mountains that they said why is it there you’d have to climb up to it to light it. Liberties will be taken for gameplay reasons.
You could do this for every game set in a real world location but I suspect that the comment section wouldn’t be so happy if the game was developed by From or Rockstar. This is nothing but rage bait using certain gamers hate of Ubisoft.
@@BAD7667i agree that some of these are little nitpicks. but a lot of these are details that they should’ve gotten right, especially the architecture. it’s assassins creed, a game known for its historical accuracy, some of these details are just straight up wrong and yes they’re small, butting getting them right wouldn’t take that much more effort , so why are they wrong? older assassins creed really nailed the small details that brought these time periods to life, this game is just shitting all over it.

love the banter with your half and both your roasts and comedic timing are impeccable. it's hilarious, and on top of that, we learn stuff. cheers folks ! keep doing what you are doing ! We can feel you're both having so much fun. That's what I really like. it's awesome!
Greetings from France!
I feel like I'm actually learning about history by watching these lol

The Asmon effect is real. Been in his chat for countless years. Even tho he boosted you your videos are the reason that was possible. Keep killing it!
Thank you for the support!
Literally found you a day before Asmon's video, wanted a native's take on AC:Shadows. Thought you guy were great and underappreciated, definitely needed more attention, and presto Asmon found you. Congrats guys on your growth, keep it up...
thank you so much!
you're one of the OG's!
Your roast of Ubi is priceless. Such a hilarious and accurate review. Keep up the good work. Ubisof technology!🤣
thank you so much for the kind words!
These videos are 10000 times better than what the game itself will end up being!
Congrats on the channel growth. Absolutely deserved :D - Loved the video btw!
thank you for watching!
we sincerely appreciate the kind words!
UBI How is Yasuke going to draw his sword from his back when his sword is longer than his arms.
Same problem but even worse with Naoe
takes a lot of technique to unsheathe a long katana effectively lol
thank you for watching!
He'll get a Shadiversity back scabbard
Some long swords, like the knight's spear, are used on horseback and have no scabbard problems.
It requires skill to handle.
I bet he pushes the sword into the air, and dash-jumps to catch it. Because he is brave and styles🤣
that rice is lockley rice, it just needs water, 24/7 365 days a year, it even grows during winter.
it also automatically keeps the water level constant, by teleporting water in or out of the field as needed. No water system necessary. Truly a wondrous species of rice
Another guy here who came from Asmon's video about your video. I've got to say, your channel is a real gem. I love the dynamic between you too, the fact that your wife speaks almost exclusively Japanese adds a lot to it, your editing skills are really clean, and I'm actually learning something!
Finding fun, quality channels like yours really makes my day. Sub well earned!

Ah yes, the poser. I read his interview statements and was annoyed by his high school student mannerisms.
Those are the things most players wouldn't pay attention to, but by exposing it, it really shows much respect and effort Ubisoft is putting into their product... absolutely pathetic by Ubisoft.
They r too busy excited about the "legendary historical" character
I really enjoy looking at the finer details in a game and thinking about the deeper aspects to them. This game went so overboard that I had to make some videos about it lol
thank you for watching!
your wife is so funny 🤣🤣🤣 the ubisoft staff joke had me cackling from the start. i knew this vid was gonna be great
thank you for the kind words!
I'm currently in Osaka now, this video just made my morning even better
9:22 in Thailand we have both black and green bamboo shoot
both are same species Rough Giant Bamboo
but we breed them to make 2 type of bamboo shoot
so maybe they just ref from asian bamboo
you guys are hilarious, keep the Ubiroast coming!
thank you for watching!
Damn! I really like watching your content. Keep it up.
thank you so much!
Wait, are you saying Assassins Creed isn’t a historically accurate portrayal of world history?
That can’t be true!
Your editing accompanying both your sense of humor, makes for hilarious content, thank you so much
As an asian yeah if I disrespected rice. I will remember it with fear from my mom.
I completely know what you mean lol, rice is sacred
thank you for watching!

it's fun being able to share these moments like this with so many people
thank you for your support!

thank you for watching!

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.....🤔? *added to steam wishlist
It's an incredible game!
Thank you for watching!
Yeah. Looks like what Ubisoft did was replacing assets in their last 3 AC games with anything that is Japanese looking to them.
I think I found the best channel ever, spot on takes❤
thank you so much for the kind words!
ここに直接リンクが貼れないが、「STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF ASCL PROF.
the only expert mentioned by Ubisoft so far is Sachi Schmidt-Hori, which is an american professor of japanese literature that focuses on weird sex and gender things in middle age japan. She does not seem qualified and is probably not enough to oversee thousands of people employed by Ubisoft making this game
@@JuanjoPP "Assistant professors" are basically frauds here in the US. It is a nominal title given to anyone the university likes, with no regard to credentials or qualification. They have no requirements to teach courses.
they actually used a Japanese ''expert''.
You gotta understand just because someone is Japanese, that doesn't mean they know every single thing about Japanese history as is the case with the so called expert they used
omg
I adore the way you two bounce off each other, even in different languages. Do you film in one language and cover in another, or are both fluent enough to keep up? The style is very unique and fun.
We mix English and Japanese in our speech, the edits are taken from a single session of recording
Makes the editing chaos because I have to subtitle so many things lol
Thank you for the kind words!
You guys need to critique all media that uses Japanese culture, I’d watch it all!
I'm actually going through Sakuna right now, I'm looking forward to how the rice mechanics work. Good to know that it's an accurate representation.
That's great to hear, I hope you enjoy!
Thank you for putting yourselves through this, both of you are great!
