Girl! You mastered this style of podcasts! You are now the standard to which I compare the other ones! Leaving the pictures throughout the talking, as I said before, is a genius idea. Your overall style makes for a very pleasurable watch. Love it ❤thank you!
Thanks for keeping up pictures of the patterns while you were talking about them. I'm usually multitasking while watching knitting podcasts and if a picture is only up for a few seconds I might miss it and have to rewind. Also great when you're talking about specific details of the pattern, because if the picture is only up for a few seconds you might not be able to take it all in and I find when other creators mention particular details like a motif or shoulder shaping I have to find the project page on Ravelry myself to know what they're talking about. I thought your presentation was very professional.
You've outdone yourself with this video! Stunning pattern choices, great display of the patterns (showtime, example choices) and the yarns, and last but not least a great commentary with some thoughtful insights! So many of these patterns found their way into my favourites, thank you!
Great cable pattern round up. Several new to me patterns. I have knitted the sweater no.15. It was 2 years ago, but as far as I remember I really enjoyed it. And I love the sweater. It is one of my favourites!
Love the round-up! So far I have knitted Sweater no 15 by my favourite things knitwear; It was the second sweater I ever made and it was very beginner friendly I would say. Though I was OBSESSED with it, I needed the end results so I kept going even when my hands were hurting like crazy. I love the finished product; I made mine in Drops Flora and Drops Kid-Silk in a light green combination. However, if I could do it again; Firstly, I would not use a mohair as I found that wearing a mohair is a nightmare for me because it gets on everything. Secondly, I would taper the sleeves as they are very wide which means it gets into everything.
thank you!! very very good to know, ill look into tapering the sleeves as I think it would look nice too, and then obviously be practical. Glad to know you love yours !!
I also love cables (just finished a cowl with traveling cables last night), and I sometimes add them to plain stockinette. I'm working on a DRK Everyday Sweater and am putting in simple cables on each side of the body. Another sweater I want to make is Aimee Shur's Friendship Pullover which has a lovely cable front panel that extends from the hem all the way up to the collar.
I'm currently working on sweater no 15! It's my first cable knit and I was nervous it would be really tedious but it's actually not too bad because like you said, you keep knitting because you want to get to the next part!
What a terrific video! Last year I made a Quinn by Cocoknit. I fell in love as soon as I saw it and couldn't wait for my yarn to arrive. It was a challenging knit but so enjoyable and so lovely to wear. I realise it is not a jumper, so technically doesn't fit into the category, but it has so many cables I thought you might be interested. I used aran weight yarn from Bendigo Knitting Mills which is a company based in Victoria, Australia and uses 100% Australian wool. I live in Victoria and have been knitting more than 60 years. Cables are my greatest pleasure when knitting. I have been watching you all through your journey from episode 1 and thoroughly enjoy your work.
Thanks for sharing ! And wow, knitting for 60 years, that's the dream !! You must have made so much. So sweet of you to be here since the start, I really appreciate you sticking around !
I'm knitting something in Tweedy right this very minute! (The Zipper Sweater Light by Petite Knit, in Tweedy Noir.) I was just thinking this morning about how I would probably not use this yarn for a cabled jumper personally... it's very, very thick and thin. Mostly thin! I had to go down to a US 4 and it's still quite an open gauge. It's soooo adorable though that it's frankly worth the hassle, ha. I'm really interested to try the La Bien Aimée Corrie Confetti after this to see how it compares. Also, for a fingering-weight cabled jumper, you may like the Berenice by Julie Hoover, published by Brooklyn Tweed! It's been on my to-knit list for years and years. Thank you for another wonderful podcast!
thanks for the advice !! The Noir is sooooo so pretty aha. I'd also love to try corrie confetti, maybe if i find it on sale some day! Thanks for the recommendation :D
I love your work always better. Your videos are really nice and it’s a pleasure to spend some time with you. In the area of knitting cables, Thea Colman is very well known. You may look at her work for inspiration and patterns 😊
Thank you. Again, you've compiled a very useful list. I love sweater #20 for myself, and I've been perusing cabled sweaters for awhile without seeing that one. Your thoughts on choosing a yarn are helpful too.
Thank you for this very inspiring list! I am working on my second Arctic Light sweater. I used Gilliatt with Ito Sensai, the result is very cosy and cute (and warm). The pattern is very well written, and although it's not a mindless knit, it's not very difficult. Looking firward to the next podcasts. Greetings from Belgium ;-)
Amazing podcast! Thanks a lot for your work. I will be making Lucia Pullover by Sari Nordlund, but modified with a turtle neck and the absence of a moss stitch. I found a finished project of this pullover on Ravelry with such modifications and totally fell in love with it. I am thinking of making it in gorgeous Cardiff cashmere in a shade of natural brown. The Sarang sweater has been one of the most desirable yet contradictive projects I would love to knit. The reviews are very mixed (for the eng pattern), but if you say the pattern has been modified, I might risk trying it. If I ever knit a Sarang sweater, I will go for Cardiff cashmere again, probably in neutral brown or dark grey. I feel it could be a beautiful warm piece for a wintery romantic date or special event. Other than that, I am still looking for professional and clean-written patterns with not-so-much positive ease. Most designers create very oversized sweaters because it is hype and it's easier to never go wrong with sizing, however, I would be so happy finding patterns closer to the body with a very wide sizing and professional constructions (short rows on neckline and sleeves, breast short rows, etc). If anyone knows such designs, I will be super grateful for recommendations :)
those sound like gorgeous mods! And yes, shame for the sarang instructions but it seems like a worthwhile project and with some perseverance, it can be done ! a fair amount of people have made it since release. Cardiff cashmere would be so good for it !!! And I am also on the lookout for such patterns so will make sure to mention them if i find any ! I do think Lydia Morrow knits a lot of fingering weight sweaters, no positive ease, with a focus on fit, so maybe check her out initially!
I too was obsessing this fall about a cabled sweater and just this week cast on the Moby by Petite Knits in a tofefe brown yarn by Farmer's Daughter Fiber. Loving the pattern so far and it's fairly easy in terms of charts and cables but looks more complex than it actually is.
Ohhh that sounds amazing in a toffee brown !! So cozy. And yeah i heard people say it's not as bad as it looks! My boyfriend has requested one, so in the future, for sure !
Several good ones mentioned by you….. after I finish my current test knit cardigan I plan to cast on the salty days sweater, which I feel is a nice balance of cables and texture… agree with others leaving the pictures up is helpful. Thank you
I think the Flamingo with the Rose Clay color for the Sweater No. 20 would be so nice! With the cables and collar being so large and impactful, I think the slight heathering with the lighter pink would bring so much brightness to the sweater. Either color would be gorgeous, though.
I absolutely love my Sweater no 15, it’s my favourite knit. It looks fantastic the way it knits up and is surprisingly addictive, I had thought it would be boring but I was incorrect. Mine is pink 💕
Awww so pretty, i think it looks so good in those pastels shades, and yes i hope it will be addictive ! seems like the most mindless of them all so can really just get into a groove
Just been down the rabbit hole of the Aran Pattern Archive (free vintage patterns) and wondered if you’ve seen it. Mostly bottom up, knit flat and seamed but some adorable designs and all free!
If you are ever looking for a cardigan have a look at the Rowe also a couple cable/lace fingering patterns are the erdene which I think would hit you very nicely as well as the Annoushka
Brilliant video Vanissia! So many inspiring sweaters, thank you for sharing your Ravelry bundle. I’m desperate for a cable knit myself and now it’s even harder to choose which one to make first 😂 I can’t remember what sweater you asked us to choose between a dark grey or blue for you but personally I think the blue would look better on you. You also asked us to choose between the Vintage Rose or Flamingo alpaca lace and I guess it depends on what effect you want to go for. I think the Flamingo would give a more marled look whereas the Vintage Rose would tone in a bit more, personally I would choose the Vintage Rose. Last question I remember you asking was about the Billy pullover and I would stick with the honeycomb. It was great having the pictures up while you talked about each sweater, it made it so much easier to knit to and not miss which pattern you were talking about. Thank you Vanissia ❤
My favorite is the Cara Sweater, followed by Bronwyn and Billy. They have the best fit. The Cambys looks a little bit box-shaped, especially at the shoulders on the front part. Great review! Love it! 🥰
Oh yes, I think I saved the cara or the bronwyn ! They are so complex-looking and showstoppers, but I don't know, i feel they look very similar to the classic "aran cabled jumpers" and i liked how different the cambys was!
@@thewoollyworker That's true. They are very classic. I will knit the Cara with Ulysse by De Rerum Natura. It´s on my list. 😎 I live in Vienna, there is no need for sweaters made with worsted yarn, except going for long walks on the countryside.
Love to see a perspective on this. Black, cable jumpers are my happy knitting place. I recommend the Saven II by Meghan Babin for Hudson & West. (H&W has great cables in general). I knit the original Saven and it is my absolute favroite.
Uh girl you are overinspiring me I am so so excited to get to some of these patterns! We definitelly have similar taste in cables👀❤ I love Helle as well, her projects are always amazing
This was so inspiring and no I don’t know what to cast on next!! I’ve seen a few of these patterns before and have had them in mind, but the first sweater you showed was new to me and so so beautiful. I can see it in a vibrant color like purple or red
I'm so glad! And yes, it's a struggle to decide isn't it aha. The first one had a bright blue that was also gorgeous ! Definitely lots of room for personalising it ! Red ♥
I've been knitting the Hana by Junko Okamoto which has been one of the most fun projects I've ever knit. It's been a very long haul project, but I really recommend it for people who want a very unique piece!
Thanks for this Vanissia. I've been following you from the start and love your podcasts. You are so thorough and open and honest and I really value your judgements! I love what you are wearing in the podcast but can't remember what it is? 🙄 Thanks for all that you do on your channel. Xx
Aw tracy I am so glad ! It means a lot people have been here for a long time ! And it's reassuring to know it can still be informational video after video. I don't think I mentioned in this one but it's the joan sweater ! I talk about it as a FO in episode 14!
Highly inspiring! You just convinced me to finally start the Deep Winter Coat by Wool and Pine that I want to make since it came out! Just need to find the right yarn 😂!
Really like your podcasts (and love the timestamps as sometimes I'm just curious about a particular topic). This topic also speaks to me, I have the Billie sweater and the Snow Crocus sweater on my to knit list, and sweater No 15 is also great. I might just make one this year but I haven't chosen which one yet. Although I have seen most of the sweaters on your list I enjoy your factual discussion of all the designs, your approach is similar to mine so what you say truly resonates with me :)
Aw thank you!! It's a lovely compliment, that even if you already knew of the pattern, you could still get something from the video. I really like it too when I find someone that matches my style or approach !! feeling very seen and understood
Lovely selection! Aegyo ("EGG-yo") is a korean word for acting cutesy btw. If you've ever seen kpop idols making finger hearts and babying it up for the camera that's aegyo haha
Love all the suggestions. I was curious if you would mention Aegyo Knits. I have a pattern by them that I’d love to knit but definitely won’t be starting it yet. Maybe around the new year. Also, just a tip Aegyo is pronounced Egg-yo. It’s Korean and means to be extra cute. Loose translation. lol
@@thewoollyworker I used to live in Korea and I would hear that word a lot but I never knew how it was spelled in English letters so I was confused when I saw it too. The sweater is the Eurus. Looks like it’s worked sideways but I haven’t fully looked into the pattern yet.
Hi Vanissia, excellent work on the video 👌 I see we have quite a few sweaters in common for either future or past knits 😊 Just a little comment as to the size inclusivity of Aegyoknit - they have tried to find models to test knit larger sizes but can’t find anyone, and apparently just ‘doing the math’ and adding on more centimeters or stitches here and there doesn’t necessarily ensure a good fit. But I know they want to improve. As to the two Puno colours you’re pondering, both would work, one a bit more moody, the other a bit more statement. I have actually just switched the yarn for my Aegyo sweater (not the off white Yak as planned) and might get my new yarn next week. When will you begin yours? Hugs, Helle 💙
Thank you Helle, and I can't wait to see your Aegyo Sweater, hopefully with some helpful notes to help future knitters! And thank you so very much for your insights on the size issue! I will keep watching your progress on yours and your notes on Puno for this project and probably cast it on in the new year!
I had a lot of fun at the start of last winter (Australian) knitting Kate Davies’ carp beth jumper which I would classify as a beginner cable - very addictive. I’ve been toying with the idea of a thick cabled cardigan over the last couple of seasons - would love any thoughts on good options.
Just FYI, it’s read as eh (open)-gyo sweater, it means being cute and lovely to someone you like, most of her sweaters are titled in Korean. I heard that the horizontal version of this sweater is already updated. I want to try knitting one day!
Ahhh absolutely loved this format! And now I have a ton of inspo to refer back to 🤩 I’m excited to see the progress on your sweater no 20! I think vintage rose works well. I’m worried the flamingo (although gorgeous) is a bit too different so the marling and cabling might become a bit busy
Yay thank you! And yes, I think it looked better in my head but even seeing it while editing i was like, aw, that flamingo is a bit much. Just worried it'll be too dull otherwise, but maybe that's a good thing? Always hard to make colour decisions !! So subtle
Ok, I have a theory about Biches et Buches Le petit lambswool and the cashmere blend. I suspect they are spun at JC Rennie, their supersoft and supersoft cashmere, because the percentage, yardage are suspiciously close AND they state it is spun in Scotland. But I have not had the chance to test it out myself. If that's the case, the same wool at JC Rennie is way way cheaper. Maybe you can't get the exact colors, but still. Since you live in Scotland, it might be worth checking it out :) I also have similar theory about Isager tweed.
love that theory !! Will absolutely investigate. And do you think isager tweed gets spun here as well, or a different mill? I remember hearing about Shibui mohair being found under a different name from the same mill, which was a good trick too !
@@thewoollyworker Isager tweed looks exactly like Donegal Yarns Kilcarra mohair tweed. But it's not very easily accessible everywhere, sometimes is sold in cones. I found a latvian etsy seller Maruma Yarns and it's half the price of isager tweed.
This video made me realize how scared I am of knitting cables and how much I want to learn how to knit it. I take the opportunity to ask if the direction of the fabric affects when making cables, I am left-handed and it has happened to me that some stitches do not come out due to the direction of my fabric🤔 thank you!
i highly recommend watching Amy from NEKnits video on her moby sweater, she explains how she reads charts for left handed knitters !! I am left handed but i knit right handed, so I can't help more than that, sorry !
Do you have any plan on doing knit along when you start Lucia pullover? I only started knitting in this October so I’m fairly new to this and I really want to knit it after my first cable sweater which I just finished! But I was afraid that it might be too complicated and I never have joined knit along. It would be really cool if I could knit the same project with you at the same time.
As much as I love the look of Sarang Sweater, I've heard that it has a lot of errors, especially in the translated versions. You don't have access to the other language (specifically the original text) since you buy the pattern on their website not Ravelry. So unfortunate because I really want to knit myself one. 😢
Interesting sweater but some of the patterns are hideously oversized especially for a small frame like yours. My recommendation is watch out how much ease you go for. Most of these are sloppy looking instead of a bit roomy but elegant.
thank you for the note! I definitely will be careful as I've been learning more and more what shapes I like on me, and you're right, sometimes sweaters like that can swallow me up! Will experiment more!
You have amazing taste and I think you’re pretty brilliant in general. But I’m going to hurt your feelings, and I’m going to do it on purpose. You have a strong tendency to “upspeak,” which makes it difficult for me to listen to you. I’ve noticed that “upspeak” or “uptalk” is common among young podcasters. I almost never hear it in normal speech, so I assume it has something to do with nervousness when speaking in public. I’m sorry to be so blunt. All I can say in mitigation is that addressing the issue will improve your podcasts.
Thanks for the feedback, I can't really change this without re-thinking everything about the way I speak and ending up stumbling on my words, so I don't think this will change in the foreseeable. But interesting nonetheless!

It's been a very long haul project, but I really recommend it for people who want a very unique piece!
oh, amazing recmomendation!
Thanks for this Vanissia. I've been following you from the start and love your podcasts. You are so thorough and open and honest and I really value your judgements!
I love what you are wearing in the podcast but can't remember what it is? 🙄
Thanks for all that you do on your channel. Xx
Aw tracy I am so glad ! It means a lot people have been here for a long time ! And it's reassuring to know it can still be informational video after video. I don't think I mentioned in this one but it's the joan sweater ! I talk about it as a FO in episode 14!
Loooove this! I’ve been really into cables this year and the Snow Crocus is calling to me. I’m not sure if I want it in off white or light blue though
I love the light blue ! But can't really go wrong with that one, all the versions are stunning
Highly inspiring! You just convinced me to finally start the Deep Winter Coat by Wool and Pine that I want to make since it came out! Just need to find the right yarn 😂!
Wonderful! Will be so nice to have once it's done !! An excuse to stash dive or go yarn shopping perhaps??
If you've ever seen kpop idols making finger hearts and babying it up for the camera that's aegyo haha
thank you!! That's very cute aha
Loose translation. lol
Thank you!! That's a cute work, and i didnt know that ! Will make sure to keep in mind aha. Which pattern is it?
I’ve been toying with the idea of a thick cabled cardigan over the last couple of seasons - would love any thoughts on good options.
ohhhh yes i think i have the cardigan pattern of the carbeth ! And recently I've seen the billie cardigan published and i really like it
Just FYI, it’s read as eh (open)-gyo sweater, it means being cute and lovely to someone you like, most of her sweaters are titled in Korean. I heard that the horizontal version of this sweater is already updated. I want to try knitting one day!
Oh thank you! Will make sure to say it right next time. And yeah they're big projects !
I'm SO up for a knitalong for the Waffle Loop Sweater! Also just found your channel, it's great ☺
Yay ! Can hopefully do it in the new year ! Glad to have you along :D
Nice review.
I am left handed but i knit right handed, so I can't help more than that, sorry !
thank you so much for the recommendation! @@thewoollyworker
Good to know! I'll have a think about it and let you know when I start it!
Hi from Nevada
There is an amazing cabled sweater in sari norlunds new book. The knitting Paige test knit it. Have a look at her podcast.
oh thanks !! A lot of people mentioned her book in the comments here so clearly a good sign !
Im about to cast on the Waffle Loop sweater in brown merino. Wish you would join me and knit this one first.
There are three sizes
Aw I wish, but I don't have anything in stash sadly! But I hope it goes well for you!
As much as I love the look of Sarang Sweater, I've heard that it has a lot of errors, especially in the translated versions. You don't have access to the other language (specifically the original text) since you buy the pattern on their website not Ravelry.
So unfortunate because I really want to knit myself one. 😢
ahhh that is frustrating ! maybe if we emailed, they would be happy enough to send over both versions if we prove we bought the english one !
Will experiment more!
xXX👍👍👍
