These have to be sold as “Novelty” candles. They are not allowed to sell as an ear candle. I used to buy them at GNC. The paper plate is the usual practice. And using olive oil in the ears to keep them lubed up since the war is stripped of its wax.
Hey Chris, please check out the Wikipedia article about ear candles. There is a lot of data that suggest that these do more harm than good and are not effective at all. The FDA published something about it, too. Love your channel by the way! This is not meant as hate only for safety reasons for you and your audience...

I used to work for a company that manufactured these and here’s how it works: It’s not a vacuum, it doesn’t suck your earwax up. When you cut open the candle, that’s the wax that has dropped down from the flame. It’s the smoke that gets into your ear that your body thinks is foreign and tries to get rid of it. As it’s getting the smoke out it also pushes out your earwax, so how you really get the earwax out is to wipe out your ears a few hours later
As a future Audiologist (person who tests hearing), this is hilarious. Love ya Chris & Andrew! You have a conductive hearing loss from being sick. The heat from the candles are supposed to help with softening hardened cerumin (wax) in your outer ear canal not the pressure buildup in your middle ear (behind the ear drum) and Eustation Tube. Being sick isn’t going to cause more wax, but you could’ve already needed to get them professionally cleaned if there’s too much near the ear drum & not letting it move.
Hi Chris, I love your videos! I just wanted to let you know that while a lot of people use this method to clean your ears, it’s also a very dangerous method. You could burn right through your eardrum. The stuffy feeling you have could be fluid behind your eardrum. This is still a great video! Just glad it didn’t go wrong.
