  • Most people think of fields and barns when picturing a farm, but mushrooms can be grown anywhere - even in a city centre!
    Join us in this video, where we join the team at Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium, based just a stone’s throw from the centre of Leeds.
    We’ll hear about how they got started small in a converted garage, then scaled up after seeing some early profits from selling their fresh produce and grow kits.
    They now have a scaled-up urban mushroom farm situated in a business unit, which they designed and built themselves.
    They were introduced to mushroom growing after watching one of our videos right here on this channel - then decided to sign up for our Low Tech Mushroom Farming online course, and haven’t looked back since - they’ve even been featured on BBC’s #hairybikers!
    If you’re interested in getting started on your mushroom growing journey, we’ve put together an hour-long, FREE workshop that covers all aspects of Low Tech mushroom farming:

    I always love hearing how people start mushroom farming. I found a kids mushroom growing kit in a clearance bin for $5 and thought what the heck lets give it a go. Instead of leaving it the box though i crumpled it up in a laundry basket full of straw like I saw on pinterest and yielded 10lbs of oyster mushrooms from my little laundry basket. Needless to say I was hooked and am excited to get back to it. 🎉

    I saw they used straw pellets. We mainly have access to sawdust, wood shavings, and soy hulls. Have you had any success doing lime bath soaks of supplemented sawdust/wood shavings for oysters in a bucket?

      Sawdust, wood shavings and chopped straw are all good options for lime bath soaks and then supplementing - the tricky bit is finding a bag to contain them all - a pillowcase will work for very fine substrate, but we use just a netted bag for our chopped straw, as you can see in this video ruclips.net/video/fVlJ3zND3PQ/видео.htmlsi=DQdVvweopY362yWZ

    Do they wash the buckets?

    • @GroCycleTV
      @GroCycleTV  Год назад +1

      They do, they wash them in a dedicated wet area and then get rid of any nasties with an alcohol-based spray... hope that helps!

    Do they sterilize or pasteurize their substrate?

    • @GroCycleTV
      @GroCycleTV  Год назад +3

      Hi Adam - they were pasteurising using the cold lime bath method, but currently are using straw pellets, which come pasteurised due to the production process. No further treatment is required, just need to be rehydrated... hope that helps!
