    9:30: What kind of caulking should I use? I know you said it's up to us; but aren't there different kinds for different uses/environments? I don't mind spending the $$ for the right stuff.

    Hi Kirk, Great video!
    I have all the problems you showed with the rusted out mesh letting rodents in and had no idea how they were installed. Wish I had seen this two years ago before I had house painted.
    I would have liked to see the details of how you mud the vents in and finish the edges. Do you tape over the vents or how do you keep the mud off of them. Is there another video that shows this.
    Thanks again and keep up the great service you provide showing how a true professional does things.

      Howdy Lloyd Dude, Have no fearmy brother.
      Fact is they also make these louvered vents as just covers also, so buy your size and screw them into your wall covering the exact area, they still work like a charm done this way, when screwed on just the surface I recommend caulking on the top and edges
      FYI, with new vents and or windows, stucco can usually be wiped off even the next day,
      but if you keep getting stucco on the same frames or vents, this causes etching, and each time it's more difficult to remove, I advise covering for this reason alone.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 лет назад

      Howdy Lloyd, no doubt the real new vents versus covers are better.
      However, with the right caulking and installation, the cover can be as effective and even look as good.

    Kirk and team keep up the great work. I own a stucco home in upstate NY that I can’t get anyone to work on it. There was one company but they only stucco new construction with the foamed backer. There aren’t a ton of old stucco houses left in Rochester and we own an English Tudor style. The batons are rotted, chimney has settled pulling wall away and exposing third floor windows to water damage. We recently went to get a window quote and since the window frames need replacing, we had 2 major window companies turn us down. Basically they over quote or don’t call us back to give us the quote is what is happening. I appreciate all the videos as I have to do all my own work.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 лет назад +1

      Howdy Dizzle dude, If it were me I'd keep calling folks, there's always someone willing to accept work, many have no ways to put food on the table like you and me except to take on tough jobs.
      FYI, often chimneys will tend to sink an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch as they are substantial, "heavier" than the home and in one spot, the efforts of 50 or more years to an average chimney will often separate them from homes. This is normal.
      As the rain falls homes lift, but this can't be measured, when dryer condition return they settle, this causes cracking, again quite normal.

      Well they do look great. I had a girlfriend long ago who’s vents were all kicked in and the cat would come and go through them. One night when going downstairs for a glass of water, I walked right past a skunk that was in the house eating from the cats dish. LOL! Walked right past it and stopped dead in my tracks. “Did I just see what I thought I just saw”?? I waited until it was done and it walked right out the house, through the garage and back out the vent. I told her she needed to get those repaired! Still makes me laugh when I think about it.

    Great video! I've really enjoyed watching your tips over the years. I just have 2 quick questions with this one:
    1. How does water go around the vents? It appears that the vents are simply placed on the outside of the paper, caulked and stucco'd over. In other videos, you've seem to be more concerned about water being channeled properly with the under/over approach to adding in paper.
    2. Why don't the walls of that house have weep screeds at the bottom? I thought it was pretty much mandatory for stucco walls to have that, but is there another way?
    One additional idea: can you do a video of adding a hole to your house, perhaps to add a bathroom vent or an outlet or something? I'd like to know how to do that properly.
    Keep up the great work and thank you!

    After viewing your RUclips video on stucco vents, I have a question. Are stucco vents installed primarily to ventilate the crawlspace foundation? Is it possible to see slab foundations with these types of stucco vents? If yes, what is the purpose of the venting? The location of the stucco vents in this video suggest it is a slab foundation, but I cannot tell for sure. Thanks!!

    Kirk I have a question, I have these exact vents in my 1970s stucco house, but they are located above the sill plate and floor joist. The backside of these vents actually goes into (touches) the fiberglass bat insulation in the stud bays, meaning they are letting the moisture and elements directly into the insulation. As a result wherever I have these vents, the stud bays and insulations around those vent locations are completely rotted. Is this simply an incorrect installation? Is my best course of action to just block them off? I don't think their current position is providing any ventilation for the crawlspace. Thank you in advance, master Kirk!

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  Год назад +2

      Cant you crawl under the hose and remove the foolishly placed installation?
      Sure, there may be bugs as in spiders, cover up or pay someone to do it, as to let it go, you will pay someone to repair a lot of wood rot. Maintenance brother. If you see something done wrong and know this to be, Fix it. 💃

      @@StuccoPlastering Not where I`m at in Texas. Home depot will show you a pic but not in store or available for online order. The vents they have in stock are all cheapo stuff for wood construction. The masonry building supply yard doesn't carry anything similar either. Lowe's has them for online order here but not in store. Both CMI and Gibraltar manufacture a similar vent. Home Depot lists Gibraltar which is strange them having inventory near Kirk in my opinion since Gibraltar is a new york based corp. and CMI is based out of California so the gas doesn't make sense. CMI's website shows them available for order directly to the masses with a minimum qty of 25. Both lowe's and CMI list them as model# FV146G. Home depot lists them as Gibraltar building industries with model# FV146B. Both using the same model #. The B vs G indicates bonderized vs. Galvanized. Both Will pop on google search using keywords "steel foundation vent" in google image. Also found some on Ebay one time for a better deal that came in a lowe's shipping box.
      I use these vents specifically because Kirk uses them and I learned from Kirk So you think CMI would throw him a sponsorship deal and send him some vents.

    Why put a vent in in the first place?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 лет назад

      Howdy Lord Baal dude, that my friend is a good question, if no air circulation, the underside of ones home will grow mold, fungus which leads to rot, termite and the rest of the critter gang.
      Sort of like venting a roof.
      Take, for example, a 40 years roofing shingles job, with no ventilation the interior usually would bake under the sunshine heat of most summers, thus the roof shingles last half the time they were designed for.
