I have been a Mason for 30 years and That is how you improperly install a air vent in a wall, you do not put mortar on the sides of a plastic or metal vent, the vent he used is plastic and about 3/8 of an inch thick , it will expand and contract with the weather So within around 5 years that mortar on the sides will have cracked and crumbled out, he is correct by filling the cells on the back side of the vent and smoothing it out that creates a barrier on the back side of the vent to prevent it from being pushed in, it is thick enough it won't crack apart and fall out, but to correctly install that vent he should have left about 1/8 of an inch between the block and vent on each side and used some silicone to fill in the cracks , it would be there forever because the silicone will stay soft and allow the vent to expand and contract ,I guarantee that's what the homeowner will be doing within 5 years, this guy looks very young and I'm sure this is how he was taught to do it because I have seen alot of mason's do it this way but I've been there done that and garrentee with certainty that mortar will fall out
@@dc-wp8oc I agree they are counterproductive, I feel that a climate-controlled Foundation is a better choice but you still have to follow the codes of your local codes Department
@@GarySmith-ss1ee If by "climate-controlled foundation" you mean using HVAC equipment, then that is a needless waste of both money and energy. Simply enclosing a properly built crawlspace without venting, will result in an equilibrium of temperature and humidity. On second thought, guess you could call that "climate controlled". When did "craftsmen" or the trades abrogate their responsibility for quality construction and left it in the hands of government shills?
How do you feel about steel decking under concrete. The steel will expand at a different rate than the concrete but the steel is encapsulated in the concrete. How do you keep it from cracking?
what up bro? i still wana do that colab, tbh i am still waiting on a few things, but i def wana sit down w u 4 real, we have alot of the same viewers and im sure there are some cross overs as well. nice video mason! seems like u r staying busy
I always wondered why they told you to not touch mortar, but I found out the hard way. Turns out mortar makes my hands burn and puts little blisters in weird spots and slowly eats your skin, so yeah wear gloves if you use your fingers a lot. I use my hands because I suck at the trowel.
Learn a lot from your channel. I wanted to asked. I want to put a block wall between my house and neighbor It’s about 75’ and 6-7’ high. Do you do it in sections of 10-15’ and how far apart for vertical rebar. Thanks
What do you put over this when building the next? Do you put a steel lintel to protect the vent? I got a builder here that just put two bricks over it… also, they have so much mortar they don’t open or close, NOT a clean job like you did, beautiful.
Nice. But my bricklayer did not put in vents, so now I have to figure it out after the fact to pass inspection. Nice huh? Can anyone tell me how to do that?

Hey thanks for the info! I’ll caulk it next time
Why are air vents installed in any crawlspace when it has been proven to be counterproductive?

Yeah man we should get a contact outside of RUclips
@@masonthemason6412 whats the best way?
Mason the mason! When tuck pointing, is it possible to add more weeps such as cell vents? This is in a split block wall
Thanks. I need to replace my old air vent just like this one. What’s the easiest way to do that?
Grind out the mortar and relay it
Am Ndolo from Kenya I like what you share in you tube however i would like to use the masonry tools you work with how can i get them?
Order online I think. I’m not sure how you’d get them in Kenya
