When I first started in carpentry I saw drywall hangers use that measuring technique with a blade to score the sheets. They were incredibly fast. We carpenters also use that trick to measure sheet goods, mortises, tenons, etc. Comes in real handy. Great video and keep up the good work.
That's awesome! I don't do that type of construction much. It's cool that you can use it for different types of material. You taught me something haha thank you! Thanks I will!
Never laid a block in my life but what happens if I come up to the last block and its only an inch or two gap? If you cut an inch or two off a block it won't have the heads on the one side, it'll just be smooth

I measure like that and it works well as long as there’s no bump on the finger side 😂 with such a short distance and cutting with a demo saw rather than a skill saw there should not be a problem

@@masonthemason6412 burn means you take an eighth off. Like if I need a 14 and 5/8 I put it on 14 and half cause with the marker especially if it's worn down a bit won't be exact and for the blade. Works for me. One of the coolest things bout masonry is there's so many different ways of doing thing but get the same result. Nice work guys.
@@justutubn oh I gotcha. You adjust for the saw blade. Yeah it's really cool. I feel like that transfers into about anything. Thank you!! Thanks for commenting that info!
@@masonthemason6412 Anytime thanks for the good videos. Y'all seem like sum good people, like to get on the wall and burn that string line up with yall... Lol
I use this method for cutting ductwork, and wood. Thanks this video helped me alot I'm building my own house.
I measure and mark the same way, thanks for showing the tips, I enjoy your videos and learn something almost every time!
Awesome! No problem, I love doing it! That's great to hear. Thank you for watching them, I really appreciate it!

Great Video!
Great helping
Same way we mark our for cuts but didn't know about the 3/8. Thanks
Glad watching this helped a little bit. Thank you. I like to hear I’m teaching something
Commenting for the algorithm brotha.... Love the content!
I’m not a mason, I build sheds and barns and I use this truck for sheet goods. Sometimes I do cmu structures I’ll give this a shot
That's awesome. They are a good base! Thanks for trying it out! And thank you for watching and commenting on my video!
Thanks mason
You’re welcome!
In Ontario Canada that’s how you measure and mark bricks and blocks
I use an electrician crayon to mark my cinder block cuts
Thx bud
Im confused…..the wall side joint has no mortar? If it all gets squished out, what is binding the block to the wall?

If your joints are filled up, that makes a strong wall
Yes yes a double union.....

I measure like that also...
It's the best way to do it haha. Thanks for commenting and watching my video!!

Which brand of trowels do you use?
Ox tools
My joints are 1/2 inch
How about showing us DIY'ers how to make mud.
Hi Ive got a 20" closure opening. is it better to do a 16" + 4" block? or two 10" blocks? Thanks awesome videos!
I’d do a 4 in piece
Do you try to squish some mud back into the corner where it all scraped out?
Just fill all the holes haha
Can you suggest a way to cut blocks without a gas powered chop saw? Maybe with an angle grinder?
You can do it with a hammer but it’s not clean
Should do a video on hammer cuts
A large angle grinder can run the big masonry cutting wheel that can go through block
I get sharp cramp in my palm when holding my tape to guide the sharpie. Don't know why.
Maybe try a wood ruler? That way you don’t have to grab much
@@masonthemason6412 genius sir. Thanks.

I mark my block like that but I burn an eight cause the marker and the finger don't hold exactly on the mark u want. Atleast for me.
Nice, what do you mean burn an eight? It's usually close enough I think haha, everyone's different and different things work

I love making them! Thanks, we try to be. Hell yeah man
A million times with drywall. Same technique
That was abuse to that level. Don’t ruin the bamboo level
Mason does that in every video and he says the level has never been damaged. And based on his skill level it seems he may be right
Appreciate that sir
Why aren't you cutting with water, silica is no good.
