I love low ELO Legends so, so much. In this one it was as if fighting over resources in no-man's land was allowed, but actually attacking your opponent's base crossed a line. Red lost the game, but not his base... or his honour.

I'm always kinda surprised at how many low Elo players know about luring boars. I know I either avoided them or sent all my villagers after them when I was playing as a kid.
These 200 Elo players are clearly using the standard build order (not cleanly, and wasting tempo on early farms, but still), and luring is a pretty obvious part of the basic tutorial knowledge. It's not 2001 anymore, you don't need to be a tryhard to google things.
I never knew that the boars were huntable until about 3 - 4 years ago when I started seeing aoe 2 videos on RUclips. I always thought they were just there for aesthetic reasons.
37:11 this is sad an encouraging at the same time - and I think a problem for a lot of beginner players. That guy lost ~19 games in a row (and after that a bunch more). Lots of players would have stopped playing after like four losses in a row - which is bad, because those player will stop playing AoE2 most likely. Props to that guy for playing regardless. I would not have had the mental strength to do that.
My mother plays AOE2:DE more frequently than me, she is 61. She beats standard AI with ease and moderate about 80% of the time I guess. We played a 2v2 game with the family. My mother and me versus my father and brother. That was fun!
When you mentioned the part about role playing the whole thing -- it reminds me that people play games for very different reasons. Some people play to explore themes and aesthetics, even in strategy games. Such people generally have less interest on winning, they may also be exploring ideals they cannot realize in real life.

My brother is always Bulgarians, my dad is normally Koreans but he's been trying some different civs to match with us, I do Japanese; Franks; or Goths. We found that Huns, Bulgarians, Franks work beautifully but we can swap Goths for the Bulgarians and still get great results.
I recall reading a post once on Day 9 channel I think. Guy telling story of how his dad playing starcraft 2 as "one trick pony". Dad picks protoss and "Cannon Rush"(its like easier version of tower rush in aoe) the opponent and if it fails instant resign. He said that his dad does not change tactic and keep doing same thing again and again.

When I was a kid I would've been like both these players. Build a nice base with all the buildings and techs, build all the different types of units with no comprehension of counter units. Never used to build a second TC or lure boars. Wish I could go back and play against 14 year old me.
I would just go all one specific unit. Usually hand cannons. I just loved the thought of lining my guys up and doing that. Then when my friend showed me aoe3, I shit my pants. The whole game was musket men lining up and shooting each other? I couldn't believe it. I picked the russians bc I thought russians were cool, and they made men really fast. Now I just play aoe2 and go goths bc it gives me nostalgia as being the russians with an infantry flood.
cesar is like the wow player who never raids and only goes fishing in grizzly hills all day. You can't even say he is playing it wrong, he is playing the way he enjoys it and that fucking rocks.
I actually like the mining outside resources first strat. I employ that in Star Craft. Mine heavy outside of your main first so you have heavily protected resources late game.

As a low elo myself, i go for the far gold too, bc the diffrence in skill is usually bigger in low elo, than in mid or high. usually one player dominates and if you go for the far gold you either get all of the gold on the map or are pushed to defence quickly and then need the close gold more to have any chance at all.
Whats bad about using your boar villager to build farms? Which villagers are you suppose to use for farms and what should the boar villagers do once they are done?

I love roleplaying in skirmish RM. Every battle I fight is historically/ culturally/ location accurate. I treat my city and kingdoms citizenry as I would my actual kingdom. It is so relaxing and so much fun. I can never play as a Mezzo Civ in Europe,Asia,Africa nor the ME. So each time I see low ELO sim cities ... I appreciate them

6 months later.... this was a really good, fast paced game. Most LEL games, especially on arena, they boom forever, fight once, and someone resigns. Not these guys. Good stuff.

One of the big issues seem to be the decision of when to resign. In plenty of games you make fun of them for not resigning, but then when they do resign, you say they resigned too early. What is consistent is in both cases you have more knowledge than the players because you can see both sides. They can't. They don't know what the opponent has. They don't know if their opponent has committed everything they have so if they hold on the opponent will then be easy to defeat; or if the opponent is in a much better position and can just continue pouring in units. From red's POV, he has basically no military, and the enemy has showed up on his doorstep and started to destroy his buildings using siege. If he tries to go out to stop the siege, what little military he has will be destroyed. So he sees it as only a matter of time until he is defeated.
The reasons Teutons are my favourites are: 1) I'm half German 2) Teutonic Knight is just soo cool and SOOO strong. 3) Really good unit variety and open tech tree. 4) Resist conversions, and extra healing range.
Going Spears against Mayans can make sense. At one time I was playing 1v1 Blackforest against another player, and we were Spanish vs Mayans. He had an insane map gen w/ relics and Gold. Since he made archers, he would win all fights in chokes, and had outposts that would see any cuts I made. I won by basically going 130 vils, and Spamming Halbs + Skirms+Hussars at all defense areas (Halbs being used as some buffer, just to get more units on the field to hold). I also massed like 30 Paladins, that I ran into his base together to do damage. Repeating this let me win
My dad has been playing since launch, and he's 60. Some people who play AOE never go online or even know that competitive exists, and basically just play the CPU and that's it. It's crazy how players like him go for so long missing out on like 70% of the meta and strategies, and are basically "casual masters" of the game who beat other casuals, but would basically fall apart against any build order at all.
I'm pretty sure Red plays against AI on lower difficulties, which quite often just sends small waves of infantry against walls, which makes the long line of castles a 'viable' strategy.
The logic of Herbal Medicine is heal damaged units inside TC/Castle?tower so you lose less units long term and therefore spend less money replacing them. Its just a shame AOEII isn't like C&C where Units can get promoted for surviving combat and get more powerful as a result.
Seeing this makes me wish AoE2 had the ability to build better ground, like the concrete from C&C that adds unit speed in base, some bricked roads in the base would look pretty Sim City!

i can't wait to become a low elo legend. I'm currently 695 and working hard to get it to a comfortable 300.
I was at 1100 but it was so stressful and un-fun to maintain so I've dropped back down to 900 and now I can actually enjoy the game again

Also you must wait until imp to attack, think that rams are crap, just one TC and believe that britons are unbeatable

It's crazy how players like him go for so long missing out on like 70% of the meta and strategies, and are basically "casual masters" of the game who beat other casuals, but would basically fall apart against any build order at all.
I'm pretty sure Red plays against AI on lower difficulties, which quite often just sends small waves of infantry against walls, which makes the long line of castles a 'viable' strategy.

The logic of Herbal Medicine is heal damaged units inside TC/Castle?tower so you lose less units long term and therefore spend less money replacing them.
Its just a shame AOEII isn't like C&C where Units can get promoted for surviving combat and get more powerful as a result.

Seeing this makes me wish AoE2 had the ability to build better ground, like the concrete from C&C that adds unit speed in base, some bricked roads in the base would look pretty Sim City!
