    Crosby's favorite player was Yzerman and his mentor was Mario Lemieux. Both those guys played with one team their whole career and one of them was Pittsburgh.
    He's earned the right to stay or leave and the decision is entirely his.

      Yzerman was almost traded to the Senators in the mid 90s and from what I recall, Yzerman was okay with getting traded but it was nixed by ownership. Everything worked out after that - but it came close.

    It's totally plausible Crosby takes a trade. But Malkin and Letang have to be gone as well. C.J. never brought that up. No way Crosby let's those guys rot in Pittsburgh while he gets traded to a contender. He had to talk Malkin into signing that deal. He's not going to leave his teammate of almost 20 years hanging. He is a leader. He doesn't need to catch a ride to the Stanley Cup. He's done that. 4 times. Won 3.

    If Crosby stays, that literally means quite the opposite that Malkin and Letang have to go. Crosby is the reason those two are re-signed. Crosby went to Florida to convince Geno to come back and keep those 3 together. Why would he do that and then have them get traded or leave himself?

      @@shreksswamp1182 I’ll never not have hope as long as those 3 are on the team. Yes at some point the wheels will fall off, but the reason they missed the playoffs was not because of their big buys. The bottom six was a sieve and the power play was abysmal. As much as Guentzel is better than Bunting, Bunting is exactly what we need. A scratch and claw front of the net guy on the power play. Hornqvist 2.0. And frankly I see that trade as the equivalent of when the Penguins traded James Neal, the much better player, for Patric Hornqvist, a much more needed player. Bunting will help the power play, and the bottom six was improved this free agency period. And if the bottom six ends up sucking again, most of the players we signed this year were one year contracts. Those will all come off the books. Petry and Smith’s retentions will come off the books. That math ain’t right there Steve for the Draisaitl.
    If he’s saying he’s getting paid 70% of x and that is 8.5, then
    0.7 * x = 8.5
    So x = 8.5 / 7 = 12.14
    Not 8.5 * 1.3 = 11.05

    i would rather he stay honestly. we got to be good for so long, arguably the best team of the cap era, which is a miracle in of itself, like it’s okay if we suck for a while. if he wants to go somewhere else, he will keep being my favorite player and i will cheer for him, but it would be very heartbreaking, and honestly i don't think he's actually gonna go rn tbh (he was just instrumental in the malkin and letang extensions for example and i think they want to be together at the end of their careers and imo they have earned that)

    30% below his value would mean he should be making 12.14M
    *warning, math ahead*
    Let x equal his value:
    x*(1-.3) = current salary (8.5)
    .7x = 8.5
    x = 8.5/.7
    x = 12.14M
    Think of it this way -- if he was worth 12.14M, a 30% discount (30% below his value) would be 12.14M * .7, or 8.5M. If he was making 11.05, a 30% discount would be 7.73M.

    I am a Pens fan for years and years, and I absolutely can't imagine Crosby not being a Penguin!!
    But.........
    If Crosby would want to go somewhere else to try and compete on a team that he believes he can win more Cups with, if the Penguins just aren't going to be very competitive any time soon, realistically.....
    I would still support Crosby no matter where he went. Because he will always be a icon and legend of the Penguins, always, with out a doubt!!!
    Crosby has never done anything but bring greatness and loyalty to the Pittsburgh Penguins, so I don't think that we should ever do anything less for him. Not everyone has too believe in what I just said, but that is my opinion.

    McDavid making the same money he does today is north of 16M using a 5% annual cap increase, which will probably be higher coming off the CBA renewal. Matthews got a 1.25% raise this year without giving Toronto 4 extra years of cost certainty... Unless they both agree to take a discount and try to win the next 7-8 cups together or a shorter term deal you might see a 150-160M deal worth 18-20M a year for Connor. Leon is in the 120M (14-15M AAV) range.
