that thing at 6:20 is an olive press for extracting olive oil. The olives are placed on the circular mats seen squished together in your video, in layers: circular fiber mat disc with a layer of olives on top, then another mat disc with more olives on top, then another mat, etc. etc. all stacked on top of one another. Finally, the screw is turned and the mats press the olives and the oil pours out of the olives through the fibrous mats and down sides of the mats -- literally pours out -- and collects in the trough at the floor. Collect in barrels or bottles. Awesome to watch. The leftover "meat" of the olives is used as feed for the animals or fertilizer for the garden. Nothing wasted.
Great videos guys ✨...that brings back memories! I was there on September 30 to do a photoshoot with a model. I chose that location, because I also think it's like a movie set - it's amazing! After my 3 months in Sicily I had to go back to cloudy and cold Germany and I already miss Sicily so much... the sea, the food, gelato and granita con brioche, cannoli... and all the beautiful places. ☀️☀️☀️ Hope you guys are doing great in north Italy and I'm looking forward to watching your videos from the opposite side of Italy 🥂
We can only imagine how awesome those photos must've been with such a unique location to shoot! Thank you for your continued support Alessandro, luckily Italy is close-by so when you visit again we can meet up for a gelato and coffee! 🥰
Guys, I'm pretty sure that's where they do the "presepe vivente" ("living nativity scene" in English maybe?) every year around Christmas. They fill that place with actors, many little Rosalias in flesh and blood, in every room, acting like they were doing their stuff, in their costumes. And that big cave is where the actual nativity scene takes place (you can still see those hay benches where Maria and Giuseppe would seat). That's why this place looks like a movie set! :) You should check if they'll still do it despite covid, and in that case *definitely* go back there around Christmas time!
Many little Rosalias 😂 That sounds like an incredible experience, Matteo! We will have to make a plan one of these Christmas' to head down there and check it out, and maybe meet Rosalia in person 🥰
We just visited this wonderful place and we loved it. All this thanks to you. There is now a small snack bar [ called 'A' Rutta ] where you can eat typical delicious sicilian food. I enjoyed watching your video once again this time together with the owners of the snack bar. This place is very well kept not to mention the scenery around it which is breathtaking. Love your drone footage btw.
Hahaha ok ok since we have finished filming in Sicily, we will have to reintroduce Rosalia after we find out what happened to her because at some stage of her life she obviously visited the north on her epic adventure! I will continue my research for now 😂 so begins the #whathappenedtorosalia saga!
What a fascinating video & that's some place for sure to visit ' Sicily is full of surprises ' keep up the good work guys ' blessings from a chilly Scotland 🏴🇮🇹
Thank you so much for taking us with you on this journey! If we could wrap you both in hugs and love we would! This place reminds me so much of the second to the last book in Jean M. Auel's Earth Children's series, Shelter of Stone... The entire society had their town built into the caves and the way this looks kinda makes the book come alive!!!!!!
Hi guys I really enjoyed this video and now have made the decision to travel to Sicily in March for a month.Thank you for all the great footage and ideas keep up the great work cheers
That is awesome to hear Vito, we truly appreciate your ongoing support and are happy we could help with your travel plans! We hope your trip will be an incredible one and you will let us know how it goes 🥰
Always beautiful and interesting places in your videos. Thank a lot for sharing them with us. If I’m not wrong during Christmas that place is used to show living nativity scene and it is suggestive visit it in the night. Recommended for those visiting Sicily at Christmas. I await your next video!
Thank you Michele! That would be an incredible experience, we will have to make a plan one day to head there around Christmas time and see the nativity in person 🥰
Awesome place: I'm Italian and I had never heard of that before! And you're right, it does not feel like you're in Italy: it calls to mind more a Native pueblo in Arizona than an Italian village!
Love your videos! Have you tried using a duffle bag for your travel? I recommend using the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane. I've been using this bag for months now and it is such a hack. It has a trolley sleeve feature and it fits under the seat too! makes your travel more convenient and effortless and it packs like a suitcase too!
Incredible how people still want to live like that. I see the rationality behind it, although I could never adjust to life without the internet. I would love to live with all those animals around me though...not for animal husbandry though, just for neighbors!
Awesome video! It's surreal to have a setting like that within sight of the Sicilian beaches! One little thing though: this video was pretty choppy on our TV, probably because it's 24 fps instead of your usual 30 fps. Did you switch to 24 when you filmed (due to lower light conditions in the cave area) or did you film at 30 and then [accidentally?] convert to 24 fps in post?
It's crazy right, it looks nothing like its surroundings! 😅 I noticed something strange as well when watching it on a tv, only the driving scenes are in 24fps but the rest is in 30fps. It seems to play alright on the computer and phone but you might be right, we forgot (accidentally) to switch back to 30fps for a few clips. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, I will keep an eye on it 🙌🏽
I pass these path in custonaci, anytime I goes to cornino beach I walk through the footpath near these cave. I hope the donkeys are still well. It's v quite an I feel scared as an African In a new environment

Rosalia needs her own hashtag...like #whathappenedtorosalia or something

Troppo forte, non lo conoscevo .. mi ricorda (in parte) il parco Jalari in provincia di Messina sopra Barcellona pozzo di Gotto..
L'ho appena cercato su Google, hai ragione, sembra molto simile Antonio! 🙌🏽
Hello, can we go to this place by train from palermo? Or just drive car?
Incredible how people still want to live like that. I see the rationality behind it, although I could never adjust to life without the internet. I would love to live with all those animals around me though...not for animal husbandry though, just for neighbors!
Don't worry Antonio, we didn't think it was for animal husbandry! 😂🤣 Yeah, it would be sweet to test out, but not permanently 😅
My mother is a Mangiapane, and our family came to America from Sicily. Perhaps we're are relations with those who lived there?

People lived there until the 1950s.
