Kent Nishimura is one of the most inspiring musicians I have ever listened to. I'm not a guitar specialist so bear with me if I misuse some terms, but I am amazed how effortlessly he lets some of the notes ring while simulatenously muting the other strings, bringing out the staccato emphasis on some of the notes, following Michael Jackson's subtle vocal nuances.

Correctly speaking, as this was re-recorded with brand new arrangement and was not used from previous recordings, this is new version of Kent's "Thriller" cover, although I don't mean to hurt your feelings in any case.

I my opinion Kent is the most gifted finger style guitar player ever. It is hard to believe this is live playing, his timing, feel , tone, knowledge of the fretboard and that base line wow🤩🤩🤩🤩 absolute pleasure to watch.

What is this sorcery? Keeping that bassline running so tightly throughout the entire song on top of all the other details is quite simply amazing.

どの曲も圧巻ですが、特に「Sir Duke」は超圧巻です。弾けるようになりたいです。
西村ケントくんの2ndアルバム『Kent Nishimura 2』や3rdアルバム『My Favorite Songs』それぞれに同封されている解説書に書いてあったと思いますが、ケントくんは５歳の時に初めてギターに触れて、７歳くらいの時にたまたま聴いた押尾コータローさんのソロ・ギターに衝撃を受けて以後、RUclipsにアップされた押尾さんの演奏を目で見て耳で聞いて完全コピーすることで（押尾さんの）ギター・テクニックを学んだのをきっかけに、その後は（主に）海外のソロ・ギタリストのRUclips動画を完全コピーして更にテクニックの幅をましたようで、その間タブ譜や楽譜、ギター・スコアの類は全く使っていなかったそうです。
また、アレンジに関しても多くの先達ミュージシャンがカヴァーした楽曲が70年代のヒット曲が多く、それを完全コピーするだけでなく、そのオリジナル楽曲も丹念に味わい聴く事で、両者の違いを感じて自然な形でアレンジの仕方を学び、そのセンスを磨いたと解説書に書いてありました。
そういった事を繰り返す事で70年代や80年代は名曲が沢山生まれた、まさに黄金時代だと知った為に、年齢に似合わずその時代のカヴァー曲をアレンジする事が多いのだそうですね。
ギター教室に通ったこともギター・テクニックを学ぶ為のレッスンを受けた事も一度も無いそうなので、RUclipsを視聴して習得した「耳コピ」「目コピ」のみの完全な独学とのことですので、その意味でも西村ケントというミュージシャンはミラクルな存在だと思います。

great news and congrats on yr book kent, i guess the major struggle will be that altho ive been playing for 40 years and i even manage to play quit a number of TE's songs including the more difficult ones, as a guitar player i have no idea where to even begin let alone ever have the hopes to play yr arrangements since this is no classic or boom chick or even jazz techniques but this like a piano player having to play/learn Art Tatum from sheet music .. we need an extra brain and few extra fingers which i dont think hall leonard will have on a shelve somewhere :) cheers my friend yr unique i dont think we will find anyone who can come close even with yr music on a sheet op paper.. all the best from holland/ rien

2018年、ケントくんが15歳の時にリリースされた3rdアルバム『My Favorite Songs』に収録されている旧ヴァージョンでは、左手のポジションを様々に変化させて演奏する事で（あの有名な）ベース・プレイが曲中ずっと続くという（おそらく当時のソロギター演奏技術としては）あり得ないアレンジで多くの皆さんの度肝を抜き、同年に彼のチャンネルRUclipsで公開された旧ヴァージョン「Thriller」の動画は昨年１月下旬に視聴回数100万回を記録し、今や230万回超えしています。旧ヴァージョンをアレンジした直後から、ソロ・ライブで演奏する度にアレンジが「更新」され、更に複雑＆緻密なモノになっていたようですが、遂に「本当にコレがこの楽曲のソロギター・アレンジの完成形だ」と言えるヴァージョンが出来たということなんでしょうね。
でも、実はそんな重々しい決断ではなく、ケントくんご本人にしてみれば案外「いえ、単に今年のハロウィーン・シーズンに何とか間に合わせて、皆さんに楽しんで頂きたかっただけなんです」という事なのかも知れないですけれど（笑）。

What weirds me out is how you seamlessly transition which fingers you use to keep that bass riff going. As a guitarist, when I think of a repetitive riff, the fingers I use are locked in and don't change. You seem to play the melody and then play the bass riff with whatever you have free. I don't know what magic you're using, but keep it up!

I found that he hits the last note of bass line whenever he can. He doesn't hit that when playing melodies, but when he has any finger left, he would add that spice. That is amazing.

I understand the haters, I really do.
Its not that I have any doubts at all that he is playing this in front of my eyes. And its not that I think that he personally isn't this good, Its thats I genuinely didn't know that any human could be this good at playing guitar and so its reset what I thought was possible in the world and that can sometimes be an uncomfortable thought. Unforutunately the haters will deal with that discomfort by lashing out and saying its fake, when the truth is we just have to learn to be comfortable with the fact that we are witnessing something that few recognise to be truly unique and that should just make it even more special and enjoyable to watch.
Thank you Kent, this is amazing. I'm happy that I'll never be this good otherwise people might think that this was normal.

As someone says, "Just in time for Halloween". This is a new version of "Thriller" cover with Kent's new arrangement for his 4th album "Fingerstyle Solo Guitar Songs" and his first Tab/music book "Kent Nishimura's Fingerstyle Solo Guitar Songs". The CD will be released in Japan on Oct. 26, 2021. Previous version of this song "Thriller" was originally arranged by Kent in 2018 when he was 15 years old and the video has been uploaded 3 years ago. As a result, it has got more than 2.3M views at present. I'm wondering how many times music fans in this planet watch this new version of "Thriller" by the end of this year (or for next 3 years). It must be very THRILLEd.
