Thanks for the shout-out, guys!! FD's are sooo good! Excited to see this come together and turn some fast laps! And I might be in the minority but I really dig the stock taillights.👌
Exciting episode with a blast from the past. Owned one of the first few FD3 for the US market which actually in Guam, it had a production dates of 12/1991, it was silver with a red leather interiors.
This channel has come full circle for me at this point. One of the things that brought me to this channel was the grey FD "Project Mazda RX7" back in the day. I think that was back in 2015/16. Its been amazing watching you guys grow as a channel and as people. But even with your growth, I've always felt that you've stayed true to why I subbed to this channel to begin with. I wish you continued success and cant wait to see this project, "Round 2! Fight!", as I will now call it, come to fruition.
I love the FD RX7 to this day, still one of the best looking cars. I've had mine since 2006. It's a 1993 R1 model, it's been swapped to a 20b, t56, and 8.8. Still a work in progress. Good episode guys.
I’m very pleased I was able to aquire original Mazdaspeed parts thru time. Your FD sure has lot of aftermarket replica components. No doubt it’ll look very fresh when the body shop gets done with it. 👍🏻
Please do OEM 99spec taillights. While you’re at it, try sourcing a fresher center taillight piece as well, the old ones tend to get a blue-ish color to them when sun faded over time. If you cannot find oem 99-spec tails, there is a guy on rx7club that sells the vinyl template so you can spray pain the outlines and convert the early tails to the late model outline. Also, you could have your paint guy wet sand the lenses and put a slight tint on the lenses and re-clear while it’s at the body shop. Lastly, you should change all the suspension bushings with OEM Mazda bushings since the car was beat on. FD owners always overlook the bushings / pillowballs and it makes such a difference for the car. Looking forward to the updates!
Opinion from an FD loving car designer(who also trained under Tom Matano, who was Mazda's design director during the NA Miata and FD Rx-7)- Keep the stock taillights. The LED's don't really fit the car, and rather than give it a truly modern look, actually give it a 2013 look(when exposed LED's were the in fashion look in car styling). Looking forward to seeing this build unfold.
For the interior parts you may be lucky by reaching out to the Ben's from G&G, maybe they still have some stuff from their FD. You got me wondering what color you're going with for this one..... Hopefully is not Tokyo Drift special LOL. Amazing how your car lineup looks more and more like Gran Turismo car list 😍😍
FYI guys spray detailer is not the idea thing you want to spray on a car before sending it to paint. Most “instant detailers” are filled with wax or polish of some form and both are the enemy of getting paint to stick. Yes it will sand off when the car is prepped for paint but it causes sand paper to clog up and wear out much faster which is more time and materials for the body shop. Not to mention it makes a area that might not get sanded well for whatever reason more susceptible to peel because of the layer of wax/polish there. No blame placed just some info for you guys. Keep up the great work!!
That other clip on the spoiler mount threads in. You can thread it out no problem. The other side slides out so you can replace the blade without removing the stands.
I know that you guys talked about painting the FD black, but that blue sure would be gorgeous and not hide the FDs beautiful lines like the black does... About the back lights, the template that make the early lights look like 99 spec lights that Pete talked about sure is nice...
I love the og taillights on the rx7 fd. To me, it just gives it the period correct look. If it was me I'd just restore it and maybe upgrade to led bulbs (idk if that's a thing though).
The FD RX7 is one of the Great Nineties/Noughties cars with it's Timeless looks. Just a thought on Paint. How about a colour change to Midnight Purple or just adding a flick of purple into the Black or just go mad and do a Black purple flip paint. It'd certainly give the RX7 it's 90's vibes!!!
MOOOOOOOSE! Hey guys, is the body shop gonna shave that front license plate section off the front bumper? It would look way better if they did. For the tail lights, i like the OEM ones that look like circles similar to the Supra tail lights. Man, the FD RX7 gives me some type of emotional attachment just looking at it. Truly a perfect automotive designed car💪
The only option is 99 Spec tails lol. Especially if you're doing a 99 Spec front, wing, etc. Which is super sick. I love the RE diffuser, however I think the Feed side skirts are the best made for the FD, and can get them in CF, but I can appreciate the OEM+ style. Anyways this is going to look amazing once painted!
i have been waiting for this video a long time, glad to see some progress and very happy to see the vision. this is very similar to my car and a few locals around toronto (oem plus for the win) and i happen to be local to you as well. the only concern i have is the tail lights... please keep them as they are with a polish or upgrade to the 99 spec ones. the diy kits stencils are good but a bit cheezy. also for colour choices i always like seeing the same paint code as the VIN number (brilliant black in the case) but if you do choose a colour upgrade please stay within the oem codes for the FD chassis. as you already might know the IBM/P20 (aka 99spec blue) is the colour of you wing and looks incredible. if you're planning on keeping the Work emotions please colour change them the black is hideous.
The best body kit for an FD is the stock one - all they need is lowering and nice wheels. I'll never understand some of the awful awful kits a lot of people fit, at least yours is going to be nice and understated!
I think keep the early tail lights to be different. The brake master cylinder cap is a common failure on these. I got a new 1 from Mazda. I would change the park lights in the bumper from the chrome surround to the black surround. Will look a lot nicer. Carshop glow does some cool looking aftermarket tail lights too. Or 99 (96+) spec looks the best. The OEM side skirts are like $1000+ now if you can find them and the OEM spats on the rear are also super rare these days. Getting a windscreen scuttle plastic is a great idea. I didn't replace that when I repainted my FD and it always looks a bit of a let down compared to everything else. Wheels look good although it depends on what your gonna paint the car colour wise as to weather I would keep em' black. Removing rear bumper is a pain. I really want that rear diffuser on mine also but not sure I want to pull half the interior apart just to install it. When I got my FD parts were cheap. I can't believe what people are paying for stuff these days. Pays to start with a good clean car in many respects. Looking forward to how this car turns out.
Hahaha, that’s awesome. The best looking car ever made may just deserve the best motor ever made. I have an FC and once I blow through the 2 rotary engines I have, in goes the LS I have. I love the rotary, but you can’t argue with an LS swap.
Tein offers an OE style replacment strut called the Endura Pro and the Endura Pro Plus (adjustable dampening) they are available but not talked about since everyone is coilover crazy.
I've noticed this channel move towards jdm restoration over the track build content you were doing in the past? Are you getting more subs this way? Love the channel btw.
@speedacademy I have those foam OEM side skirts that Id part with lol I just need to get them off my car. Looking forward to seeing this build come together
The Mitsubishi 3000gt vr6/GTO is another jdm legend with its twin- turbo Awd V6 . Mitsubishi had some of its most expensive vehicles in the 90's and had a similar or higher priced msrp than the Mazda FD Rx-7 and the 2jz-Supra!
Even in that condition the RX7 looks beautiful. Its design is timeless.
Those valvoline ad spots during the engine build are still the greatest ads you guys have done.
They were truly… original!
I had a different take…
@@jamesf2656 no one asked you
99 spec taillights are the best look for an FD, hands down. You should *really* consider painting the whole car blue though - what a beautiful color!
100% agreed
Yep a 99 spec FD is pretty much the best it gets, atleast in my opinion :D
Thanks for the shout-out, guys!! FD's are sooo good! Excited to see this come together and turn some fast laps! And I might be in the minority but I really dig the stock taillights.👌
The recognition is well deserved. Your content is awesome!
@@martindeoliveira5128 much appreciated homie!!
Exciting episode with a blast from the past. Owned one of the first few FD3 for the US market which actually in Guam, it had a production dates of 12/1991, it was silver with a red leather interiors.
love this
Yeah.. This RX-7 will be so cool when ready..
Shout to papa tom hopefully you dont have to roast these guys later 😂😂 nah these guys keep it classy

The car stable is phenomenal
I must say you guys build all your cars the way I would. Tasteful functional mods, decent aero and matching wheels. Just spot on mods. Well done!
I love the FD RX7 to this day, still one of the best looking cars. I've had mine since 2006. It's a 1993 R1 model, it's been swapped to a 20b, t56, and 8.8. Still a work in progress. Good episode guys.

nothing is more JDM than 99 Spec tail lights I love them
Thought it would never happen! Glad to see the FD back out and dusted off.
Mazda produced the most beautiful looking FR car ever when they designed the fd. You can't convince me otherwise
Totally agree!
Amen
Please do OEM 99spec taillights. While you’re at it, try sourcing a fresher center taillight piece as well, the old ones tend to get a blue-ish color to them when sun faded over time. the rx7 is definitely a JDM legend. Still my dream jdm car til this day.
i was really wondering what happened to the rx7. Glad you guys brought it back!
Love to see the rotary back
Your supposed to slide the wing on the stud and then push the other side in
Looking forward to you guys workin the magic on er!
Finally! 🤩 looking forward to follow this build series at the same time i’m getting my rx7 refreshed and ready to rip again 👌🏼
For tail lights I recommand the stock 99 spec, the new led ones don't really fit on a 90s car in my opinion
that defrost vent is still available new from mazda for around $130!
Ordered!
I love surprise episodes!
Looking good as always! Good surprise FD episode between all that r34 stuff. Must have felt quite refreshing to work on something else for a change
I'm from niagara falls and I had him put a windshield in my car a couple years ago very awesome to see
Undoubtedly this is one of the big four guys, and arguably, the most beautiful and the best chassis.
That rear diffuser is freakin sweet 👌🏻
Ive waited for this project for the longest time💯
This is the build I am most excited about
Can’t wait to see the finished product!
You need the veilside kit to do the tokyo drift colours. It'd look stupid without its lines.
I love Pete's laugh off camera from the Straight Pipes' recommended tire.
Always loved the car shop glow led lights on the FD
That blue color is very nice.

Evo’s are the time attack kings 💪🏻
Get the Odula wing from Shine too, gives the spoiler some bad ass aggressive look. The Re amemiya door handles are good looking ones
That other clip on the spoiler mount threads in. You can thread it out no problem. The other side slides out so you can replace the blade without removing the stands.
So excited to see the Mazda!!! Legend.
Looks awesome. Cant wait to see it finished

You guys have to paint match the car to that wing, that blue is awesome.
Ken better be making a rotary appearance!
100% right on the iconic 4 DP
hahaha loved Mr. brake fluid cap!
carshop glow lights will be sick!!!
I love the og taillights on the rx7 fd. To me, it just gives it the period correct look. If it was me I'd just restore it and maybe upgrade to led bulbs (idk if that's a thing though).
Love it, can't wait for some Dorito Noises, I would like a rip at TMP plz :)
For light I liked the DEPO Sequential lights
About time we see this thing again
Supra Red to match the 2JZ powertrain you will be installing a in next week's episode, so stoked I can't wait for the video to drop!!!
Innocent Blue Mica, possibly one of the best Mazda OE colors of all time, certainly the best FD color.
16:01 okay, that does look fantastic!
Can't wait for more JDM content. Love all the videos you guys put together. Keep it up! 😎👏
Amazing, removing 20 year old windshield without damage but the body shop I took my 2011 golf broke mine.
you guys should repaint it in the same blue as the wing, it will pop better with the carbon
LRB speed makes aluminum replacement vents, along with aluminum replacements for a lot of the interior.
The FD RX7 is one of the Great Nineties/Noughties cars with it's Timeless looks.

Well! Car is ready to be out on the streets! Just have Moose push it!! FD was my favorite JDM Legend car of all time!!
I just painted my brake line clips. Looks fine if they're all painted so it's consistent

Please Please Please!!!!!! For the love of Felix Wankle you need to paint this Mazda OEM Innocent Blue Mica…..
The best body kit for an FD is the stock one - all they need is lowering and nice wheels. I'll never understand some of the awful awful kits a lot of people fit, at least yours is going to be nice and understated!
These cars are so much fun. And small inside. Great for short people....as seen in our video. Lol.
All black Darth Vader FD with the added aero accents looks damn sharp.
Fascinating bit about the rear glass... I'd do questionable things for an FD RX7. 🥰 but then again, I'd do questionable things for a lot of cars.
I hope you paint it all that blue and put gold rims on it
Time to bring Ken back! 💪💪💪
I think keep the early tail lights to be different. The brake master cylinder cap is a common failure on these. I got a new 1 from Mazda. I would change the park lights in the bumper from the chrome surround to the black surround. Will look a lot nicer.

Will be mint once the LS engine is fitted :)
Hahaha, that’s awesome. The best looking car ever made may just deserve the best motor ever made. I have an FC and once I blow through the 2 rotary engines I have, in goes the LS I have. I love the rotary, but you can’t argue with an LS swap.
The Lexus sc300 has a sweet shine auto kit as well you guys should build one
Good work sir
Tein offers an OE style replacment strut called the Endura Pro and the Endura Pro Plus (adjustable dampening) they are available but not talked about since everyone is coilover crazy.
Loving these contents!
That wipe on the hood sounded like sandpaper!
That chassis is ripe for a boosted K20 for sure!
Been waiting for this video!
Out of all the jdm legends....it's the fd and the nsx.
Rob dahm had somebody 3d print those defroster vents.
I've noticed this channel move towards jdm restoration over the track build content you were doing in the past? Are you getting more subs this way?
Love the channel btw.
Or maybe due to Covid & weather it is not really all that possible nowadays to hit the track as they used to
Missing the track builds and driving. But people like JDM builds i guess.
That blue on the wing is super nice I would paint the car that color
Always wanted to do a Mazda KL V6 twin turbo in one of these.
@speedacademy I have those foam OEM side skirts that Id part with lol I just need to get them off my car. Looking forward to seeing this build come together
Email me asap! Ours is off to paint already. Peter@speed.academy
Awesome video. As someone that owns all many of the best JDM sports cars, which one do you think is the best? I also own an FD
Vr4
They are good cars but no in the same league as the rx7/gtr/supra/nsx
Second tier would be Mitsubishi Evo, gc8 wrx sti, Nissan s15/180sx
Being Canadians, did you apologize to the FD for the tires falling?
"it won't take long" famous last words
Amazing build guys. Love the FD content. Also, Im just shopping those lifts you guys have under the FD. How do you like those?
I would agree with the 4 JDM Halo car being the GTR, Supra, Rx7 and the NSX
Don't forget they make aluminum door handle replacements, changing the plastic handle so it won't break over time
Move the horn to mount on top of the oil cooler. Otherwise it will look silly half sticking out
Paint the car the JDM factory Mica blue color my fav 💙💯
Wow what is next a 3000GT VR-4? This is awesome!
I vote Carshop Glow taillights or OEM 99 spec.
Put a nsx in the garage and you have pretty much the Ultimate Jdm legends collection with some cool euros.👌🏻👌🏻
Really good video, thanks
