Morel is good stuff. Israeli brand if I remember correctly. I have a Morel surround system that I've used for about 17 years. Still works awesomely.
Those are borderline audiophile grade speakers on it! Keep those for sure!
Morel's are nice, definitely akin to higher end car audio brands like Focal, Hertz, etc. If they work, reuse em!
The defrost vents are available new from Mazda, not too pricey and are the way to go. That connector on the door with the cut wires is most likely the speaker connector, it would have plugged into a similar plug that was attached to the speaker bracket. They probably cut and spliced into the wiring for that aftermarket speaker. Looking forward to seeing it out of paint!
I hope the Speed Academy guys see this comment. Anyone who has browsed the 3rd Gen section of rx7club should know that Dale Clark has been living and breathing these cars for decades.

We use those absorbent pads a lot in the oil field.
Absorbent mats= pig mats. Another awesome JDM project. You guys are on the verge of having every 90s jdm legend! Just need a 3000gt vr4 and maybe a z32.

Yes, the plastics after so many years and not being properly taken care of will crack. That’s just the way things are with a machine that’s 30yrs old.
Don’t bother with the plastic kick cover. Get the metal ones. They’re still available. At worst you can get the knock off carbon fibre stuff. Try to keep OEM and get the aluminum ones.
You’re going to realize finding a front speaker that’s big enough but shallow enough is going to be tricky. You can’t make it too big or long because it’ll hit the window. Very few speakers will fit the enclosure and retain the stock door cards.
Aside from that, I hope Richie will be able to bring back the FD to its full glory. 👏🏻

That mystery connector, I bet it went to the stock speaker. The clipped wire colors look to match the wire colors that the aftermarket pigtail is taped to.
Morel's are isreali from memory. Some of the best sounding speakers i have heard in 8 years of automotive retail experience.

Bubble Tech makes amazing replacement interior trim for FD’s.
The piece missing from the console is a tiny "ashtray". Might be able to find one on ebay.

Its going to look so good when its all clean and shiny. I had a 94 RX7 and its still my most favorite car I’ve owned so far. I miss it.

For soaking up spills I actually did buy those large absorbent pads (kind of like depends) they also work well and cheap too
Now all you need is a nsx and a gto to round everything off

We use those absorbent pads in the transit maintenance industry. They’re affectionately known as pig mats.
Those absorbent mats are great for epoxy or sealed floors. For good ole concrete stick with the gravel type floor dry. When used properly you are sweeping up dust when you're done, not oily gravel lol.
New channel: "What can these mats absorb?" So satisfying seeing how much it absorbed so quickly! In my old college years lube tech days, we used those things like crazy. And seeing Pete cramped in the FD hurt my FD dreams. 😢 Also the stripped FD front end engine bay looks proper race car-ish. S-chassis look like normal cars when stripped - the FD design looks really interesting with the core support basically in front of the headlights.
I’m also in the process of building my FD and there are some OEM style parts on Garage Alpha for the interior bits like the center ashtray piece, new floor mats metal door handles!
So excited for this project. FD is a dream project for the future. Got my 99 Miata now to learn on, this will come later once I know what I am doing lol

Morels are great. I use their titanium series but Maximo is their entry level.

Have you ever tried Plastic Boat Repair Kit from West Marine? That stuff is super strong and I use it on interior parts all the time. It is an ugly yellowish color, but you can use it on clips and areas that can't be seen. Amazing strong stuff....Like plastic epoxy. You can even reinforce it with fiberglass. Good luck guys, you really do great work!

I'm sure in SA fashion you guys will completely replace the oil coolers and lines with new, but if you don't I'd recommend getting them flushed/ cleaned and maybe replace the Oem lines. Any crud in them will go to your filter but a hose failure is instant engine destroyed.

It would be awesome if whomever you hired for whatever was as excited as Ritchie to get the job done.
Also I believe that connector in the door went to the stock speakers, looks like they ran their own wires when they hooked up the new speakers.
Those are the less expensive Morel … they can get pretty pricey !
Wrap those old center paneling in alcatara or something. Just have some upholstery shop do it.
I'm 6'1" and I BARELY fit in my FD. To get into it, I have to sit down, and then swing my legs in.
Get the defrost vent from LRB Speed $60 the stock ones explode after 5 years. the plug looks like the mirror plug.

there's a coin tray that goes in the center console hole, for which the lid latch is known to break, etc etc. believe there's aftermarket replacements that'd probly be better to go with. could also go for a set of FEED kick panels to replace the OEM plastic at the bottom of the door sill, not sure it'd get there in time for the build tho.

That console is available from Mazdatrix... the sills are not, but a few companies make CF ones if you cant fix them.
Morel is pretty high end stuff. Comparable to Focal, etc. Beyond any off the shelf brand like JL Audio, Alpine, Sony, etc.
I am shocked how well you guys pulled those glasses.

Now they only need a Z32 300zx and NSX to round out the JDM legends. And Morels are very good speakers, but those look pretty old, it would be sweet to see you throw a new set of Morel 602 Hybrids in, they only cost about $1000 USD a set.

I’m surprised by how brittle the plastics are in the FD rx7, my Australian delivered wrx gc8 is 23 years old and the plastics are still in excellent condition and even the dash has some squish to it so it’s not made from scratchy plastic
You should get something 3d printed to go into the spot in the center console
Morel is a decent brand. The Maximo is there lowest model. Some of the prettiest speakers on the market with insane sized voice coils.

I've found a bunch of the interior trim at Atkin's Rotary. They are pretty expensive though.
With the difficulty to get nice interiour parts I'd just racecar it 😅
Seems like a lot of reviewers complain about head room, etc. Ergonomics in this era were for the Japanese market. I'm short, 5'6" and fit fine in small cars. A lot of more modern cars are way too big for short guys like me.
