tbh, I'm not surprised. As long as you pay attention to the tones you use, Synthwave does a great job of leaving a LOT of space to play with for a guitarist. Because the 80's style of Retrowave in particular harkens back to 80's pop, you get a really good base to throw some killer guitar licks on top of, because original 80's pop had guitar all over it while having synth piano etc in it. I mean EVH did the "Beat It" solo right?
Always the best metal guitar solos from those metal bands came along with their balads that is what I liked from the metal bands as they were able to create beautiful harmonious pieces of art like their balads and guitar solos perfect as well for synthwave songs!!

just follow note by note at 50 or 75%! approsimate where the fret playing hand is and find the right string. I've barely started playing but thats how i have to learn this since some songs arent made into tutorial. You'll get the hang of it just gotta find the notes by ear :)

I'd stick an overdrive in front, and a delay in the FX loop. That should give you the sort of modern hi-gain sound you need.
