- I think it was around 2016 when I first started getting into 'synthwave' and I remember it being quite exciting and refreshing to hear that type of music. The excitement started to fade when I realised that a lot of it was essentially 'electronic dance music' but with 80's sounding synths and production. The Midnight were one of the few artists doing actual songs and I rank them the best in that genre. 'Jason' was the first track I heard and ever since I've been a big fan. I have fond memories of listening to their 'Kids album over the summer of 2018. We had a good summer in Scotland and it was the soundtrack to twilight nights, walking to my car after a late or night shift at Edinburgh Airport. :)
Anyway, really fun track to play that has some quite challenging guitar work already, especially the last solo lick, but I thought I would add a little more in the Leppardized style. Hope you enjoy! :)
'Leppardized' is my way of adding interesting guitar parts to a song that has little to no guitar in it, in an attempt to make it more like the Hysteria era of Def Leppard. Although really it is just an excuse for me to play over pop. :)

I use a Charvel DK24 (it's purple) into a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X.

Holy Crap, my two all time favourite bands - Leppard and The Midnight - can't believe there are other people into them both too! Awesome bro, I was already subscribed just for the Leppard stuff.
I just found this and wanted to note for the youngers that in the 70s and 80s we did not separate genres like is done today, so we got exposed to many different styles, and benefitted as a result! I'm a 70s Classic Rocker foremost, but I love the 80s, too, along with Yacht Rock and "synth wave" which is simply a nostalgic head bowing to the 80s new wave. Love it all!

Only just read how you found this band 2016. Compelled me to tell you I was very fortunate to live the US in the late 80's. I was 22. 'Pour some sugar' was just out and I was into heavy rock. One night a girl took me on a date. She drove us to Atlantic City and played the midnight the whole way as the sky turned turquoise. I fell hard for her that summer night. Keep playing those banging tunes bmw!❤
Another absolutely great one is Running In The Night by FM-84. The video is equally stunning!

This is great, the midnight has really good songs, vampires has an insane saxophone hook and solo. And Sunglasses kid has , In the dead of night. That's another amazing song. Thank you for your time and sharing all these timeless songs with us

I think it might have been a drum machine on the original song, but he went all out on the cover.

Anyone interested and new to The Midnight, Endless Summer is a great entry point. And, the entire album straight through Hysteria style tells a kind of story. Comeback Kid is another hit, and a great second song to listen to after Sunset.
Ben, I think I've seen a pic of Tim McEwan sporting a Def Leppard shirt around the time when he started to play a drum kit.
Btw, saw the Stadium Show a few weeks ago. The Diamond Star Halos tracks really freshen up the playlist and for right in. Amazing show, and best band ever (and they actually have a good time).
