This is gonna help me so much man thank you!! because other people's tutorials are like today we're gonna make a really realistic tree or doughnut. but they are good for learning the tools..
really great video. thank u. i use blender for few months and only do photo realism but for a web project i wanted to do my first scene in low poly style (at first mainly for performances but im starting to like low poly style tho) and i was doing some half realist half low poly stuff lmao. So yeah really useful tips!
Hi Grant! So it's me again, you are my go to guy for Blender tutorials. You've see my first render the sheep with one green upper leg as well as seen my complaint with Blenders updates moving and taking away menu buttons etc. I'm just so excited to follow your tutorials, I'll be posting my result at every last part of your multi episode beginners tutorials and start building my own library / resume on DeviantArt. Do you have any other website suggestions where I can post rendered images to get feedback and support? (for motivational reasons) Thanks! Oh and yes I wrote this before completely watching this whole video.
Great tips! Though i'd say they equally apply to more realistic art as well. There also, silhuette breakup and variation is king. It just comes in different facets and weights. Like using materials/pbr propertirs creatively (contrast of materials) and the conveying of the backstory behind the item and so on. The basic art fundamentals always have the most weight, like scale relationships and silhouette comes way before any texture details. Those equally won't help you also with less stylized art. Common example is a highly tertiary detailed realistic face with uncanny, misplaced proportions as a base. There is no "help" basically there either :) There is no advantage in having high quality textures at your disposal if you cant sculpt an appealing raw form of a face or model a prop so that the basic form feels right. Realistic art is a lot less forgiving than some people think. Its not much different in the way that we perceive it as art. Not sure anymore what I am getting at here... I think I was a bit disturbed by the comparison of that in realistic art, you would basically have more options to cheat through textures and such, which is not the case at all imo. Beginners tend to consume such info the wrong way and go feasting by nonsesically starting to slap smart marterials onto their "from a weak basis plaqued" models, in the hope it will produce them realism and appeal (Guilty of it myself :) I feel a strog base is always important, no matter the artstyle.
Working my way through your tutorials, so firstly thanks! Your teaching style is very helpful, and you do a good job of actually explaining what you're doing instead of just giving instructions. I would love to see your sword tutorial too.
your prototype work-flow seems very nice, it's basically all your own ideas, and you work towards, slowly, over a process, of repeated ' reflection ' or, ' enhancements ', towards what you're looking for . . that keeps it original and, more fun . . have to admit, this is a really cool video, from someone who knows the stuff, and have an easy work-flow, for 3D, really nice, cool . .
I'd say it's vital, most times you won't be modeling on high-poly from the start, unless you are going for very organic shapes; instead you model on low-poly to get the correct shapes and proportions and then proceed to add a Subdivision Modifier or change to sculpting for further detail. Anyway, even if you are focusing on sculpting you're probably gonna end up doing Retopology if you're gonna use that model for a videogame or simply optimize the rendering process.
Hi Babe, can you maybe do a Video for the Texturing? I am wondering, if you used the texture painting or different method. If it is texture painting, I can watch other videos of yours.
I did it differently now.. I just seperatet the Object by lose parts and textured the single parts. I then joined the lose parts together to one object. It worked beautifully
Hii Grant Abbit , I wanted to ask you that some people say in their freelancer work that they charge suppose 20$ - 30$ per hour. I didnt understand how , i mean what if that person does it slow for 3 days when its a work of only 2 days?
its very tricky i have a general price that i am thinking when pricing jobs about how long it will take and roughly how many hours. Generally though its best to price for the whole job rather than time
I have learned a great lot from you grant and love all your videos :D I just backed the drawing kickstarter also, I'm fairly okay with my drawing but I hope to pick up a few new tips :) again thanks so much and I look forward to more content.
Love your tutorials Grant and thank you for all of them - I actually believe I can accomplish my 3D goals watching your videos! Would love to see how you made this sword :)
Hi grant. You have the easiest tutorials to follow in blender. Thanks a bunch for that. Also just a suggestion, could you and jimmy vegas do a collab blender unity series please.♥️
Hi Grant, thanks for all the tips and info you provide for us! By using that bevel you created the 2 ngons, is that a bad thing, should it be fixed or it is alowed?
HI there, Your videos are awesome I wonder me if you can help me. I have been working in an organic project that I made on blender software so what I need to know is if there is a way to keep the same proportions when you export UV layout sort of like creating clothes. I am able to export it but there are some proportions variations. I made a 3d model I printed then I want to covered with leather like when we put a t-shirt on us. I hope to be clear about what I want to accomplish. Thank you.
@@grabbitt now i just feel betrayed, I payed 8000€ for a cg school and they always told me to use quads because of compatibility issues with engines and jibber jabber...Thank you very much.
I think, what would make it look nice, was some sort of ' magical ' glow and, perhaps also wears, and tear, that's been painted on . . also, by making it symmetrical, you have limited ways, to make it look epic, ie. if it's a dragon-killing sword, one side of hand-guard could be dragon head, the other dragon tail, this will help ' convey ' what the sword is . . last, to make it look magical, it could be in a cave, where everything is dusty, lots of spider webs, and rusted armor, but this sword, is some-how not rusted, at all . . so, it's pretty clear, it's a special sword, or such . . :O :O . .
hey can u make a tutorial on making this axe. I really love it but I always end up in getting mesh problems like bad UV's or bad edge flows etc the image: drive.google.com/file/d/1skAx9M9hqDKmXPy_E3IJE5x5rUI-qyn0/view?usp=sharing the problems I am getting are : the part between the axe joining the 2 blades is looking really weird my stick/handle looks like concrete and my model is sooooooo not detailed how much ever I try

When it's my idea to begin with, I'm not so much stealing, as borrowing, or getting some ' details ' right, in the process . . . :O :O it can be tough to come up with ones own ideas, in the end, there's a sense of it being ' my stuff ', what I did, was mostly get a reference or, ' basis ' from others art, like a scaffold, to make my own stuff from, like a sketch or, ' scaffold ', or so . . that's how I do it, but I know many people in the industry are under pressure to churn out stuff, and don't have time, for that . . but, it does make it feel more original and, ' self ' - made, the stuff, and I never steal, I ' learn ' from others, or ' get references ', towards what I have planned or, created, on my own . . :O :O . .
Grant Abbitt and Blender Guru is my two favorite Blender Artists on RUclips. Thanks for your work.
Strong silhouettes are also important for character design. A well designed character should be recognisable just from its silhouette.
indeed :)
What the hell??? How have I not been subscribed!? I've been learning from you for almost a year!
I want more low poly videos
Yes please do make a video on how to model the sword..........
and thank you for your tuts :)
Yes
Remember
0:33 Always use References
2:00 Thumbnail sketches & silhouette
4:20 Details to add character
Thanks for putting the shorthand in the description.
Realy appreciating your videos and am so happy to have subscribbed your newsletter
Super excited for your Kickstarter!
👍😀
5:18 not sure if it's any faster but you can also select the faces and dissolve them [ Ctrl - X ] then select the 2 side verts then joining them [ J ]
Thank you for all that you do.

Low Poly!!!! Thanks!! ily sir keep up the good works ♥️
When I use references...the modeling takes less time...and the details are easier to apply...
Useful tips, and useful links. Thinks.
yeh would luv the sword tutorial, it seems a bit easy but so was the low poly tress and that was a good video
Yup i am interessed about it , all knowledge is good to grab :)
Thanks Grant!
I'd love to see a sword-tutorial for that sword.
I want to start with Blender and that sword is an object I can imagine to create by myself.
Yeah, pls make a tutorial to the final model. It would be very helpful and thank you for all the nice tutorials for Blender and more!👍

I'm from suffolk :)
I was thinking just earlier today that I wanted to model some weapons! Please make a sword tutorial!
I hope you know you are a hero!
Smooth shading… Thats one :P

See my video on ngons tris and quads

I would do the sword-edge wider though. Smaller edge just looks amateurish imo.
interesting :)

I have a question.. Isn't n-gons a no go? I have been struggling to make low poly without n-gons and I suspect that I have been wasting my time?
Yep ngons are fine
may i know you render using eeves or cycle?
often cycles for the still image and eevee for the animation
How to make this beautiful sword ? :)

Thanks grant abbitt
