My oldest daughter died from cancer at age 40, four years ago.
It is important to let us talk about her and share her stories. It allows us to acknowledge her and continue our love for her because the love never dies. That is what makes it difficult. I find myself still loving her and when my heart hurts, I know I was blessed to have her in my life.

I couldn't agree with comment this more. As the last person in my immediate family that is living (with multiple brain aneurysms), I buried all my family members...two of which was my beloved sister and brother in law and their precious dog all who were killed instantly by a drunk driver who t-boned them going an estimated 82 mph. Their internal injuries were massive but I was told that they did not suffer as their death's were immediate because both had C2 vertebra fractures. I can only pray that's the case. It haunts me to have to wonder if my sweet sister had to lay their and suffer. This occurred only three weeks after we buried our endearing mother that passed from cancer. The person that killed them was a woman that went to school with my nephew (their son) this was her 2nd drunk driving offense. She was sentenced to 6 to 15 yrs was released after 6 because of good behavior. Then... 6 month's later my nephew who was on a bowling league walked past the open bar area and who does he sitting there drinking? Yes, the woman who took his mother and father's life's. Jeez, let that sink in. He called me in tears and I was outraged. I immediately contacted her probation officer. I don't understand the why of this woman apparently not learning a thing after this. She should not be on the streets. It's already been proven she's a danger to herself and to society. Sorry, I felt a huge need to vent... :(

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my mother at the age of 10. I’m Catholic and believe that eternal life begins when we die. Grief is so difficult and grief without faith in God in unimaginable to me. The day of my mother’s passing was special. Each anniversary of her passing is special. These days are special to me because I know that she is with God in Heaven and experiencing great love.

Thanks for sharing for your loss. My husband committed suicide in 2006 and we were almost married for 30 years. I have grief anger and just trying to forget the whole process. There was a lot of good things that my husband did but there was a lot of bad things that he did. I have a cat that was a kitten at one point and somebody threw about five kittens out in the street and I was outside with about three women at the time one person she said I’ll take that one so we had about four kittens to ask people who were coming in the hotel that I was staying out at the time. And we got the other three that people actually took, praise the Lord. So there was one left. And she was so little like she was like so small in both of my hands. And I had rescued a dog and his name was Stanley. And I also kept thinking is I can’t take this little kitten in there he might just bite her? Saying all that I did it anyway. I just laid that kitten on him. So then I started calling my dog, prince Stanley and the little kitten. I called her queen, Sheba, and anybody who asked about them I would always call them that way. To make a long story short Stanley died. Well, I had to put him down, he gotten really sick. And he needed to be put down. And you were talking about Dogs feeling a loss. Cats do the same thing. for about a year she kept pulling her hair out of her skin that her skin by bold in certain spots of her body. saying all that it’ll be two years coming this June 2024. That Stanley died. And queen Sheba is, so much better, and in my heart, I wanted to speak Stanley‘s name. But I’m pretty sure that would’ve affect her even more with her depression that I know she was going through at the time. So yes, animals cats or dogs I think there is same in the sense of a loss. They laid together every day. She would pounce on him like a basketball. I miss my Stanley so much! It makes me wanna cry when I think about it. Not that he is a human. I guess it was really hard because Sheba, missed him so much. I’m sorry for your loss with Brian. Because I could feel the pain. And I know it’s different when somebody commits suicide. Unexpectedly. It has affected my life. I did not do what you guys did. Having that support. When my husband died. I decided to walk away from everybody. And secluded myself. so here it is 2024. I don’t think that much about it. But I have two kids. One is it who was eight months pregnant. And she was the one that found her dad and it’s a horrible situation. But I will say after all these years I don’t think about him every day. It was a bad situation With our relationship, that makes me not want to think about him. I do believe in God. And I have forgiven him as God has forgiven me! And when I have the thoughts of negativity like you guys say to think positive. This year I started to talk to the kids openly of the good things that I remember That we all enjoyed as a family. So sharing what good is awesome. I hope that you get your strength from God. Because the kindness and the love that you’re sharing is a good thing and God is good. Thank you so much for sharing and God bless you. You’re in my prayers right now in Jesus name amen.🙏

I love that - “don’t think in terms of why he died, but why he lived’. My personal experience with grief, once the gut wrenching phase passes things change over time. Anytime I remembered the person I lost I was filled with sorrow & pain. After many years I now only remember the good times, the joy and laughter is what comes mind most often. I will always miss that person and cherish their memories but I can honestly say that over time, it did get better in some ways. My prayer for your family is that you feel joyful when you think of him, may fond memories help heal your hearts. Many Blessings and thank you for sharing your story with all of us. Prayers & Blessings 🙏

I cried while viewing this mainly because I cannot fathom such pain nor do I ever want to meet such grief. As a parent, there can be no greater loss. I empathize because it was such a huge loss for your family, and although you have survived and gone through years of different phases and emotions, it remains an such immense loss. I am thankful you have learned to live again, but the fact you had no choice but to experience it does break my heart for you as a family. I cannot fathom anyone saying or alluding to "get over it," or "I don't want to hear it." 🤯 Who does that??!! I don't care if it's been 50 years, the fact you need to talk/cry about your late son should be enough for a friend &/or co-worker to consciously empathize and simply listen if they can't hold your hand or hug you. Your family is awesome❤ I am thrilled you have a precious grandson who will bring nothing but joy into your lives🥰 What an immensely great blessing!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi. I shared your video with On Patrol: Live, a TV series on REELZ, that features several police departments in the country, including Toledo, OH, because they have shown a lot of drivers under the influence.

I lost my precious niece due to cardiac of arrest at age 49 this was a sudden death and she died in winter 2013. She left behind a husband and a son age 10 and daughter age 8. As the Hoeflinger family is speaking here about their son Brian dying oh boy I feel their emotional states. 😢

I'm glad you and your beautiful wife stuck by each other through that difficult time. Losing a child is very difficult, and couples tend to take that anger out on each other. It's sad when that happens because no child wants to see their parents' place blame. Make sure, though, that you two are having a special night during the week at least once a week. I hope they will pass stricter laws on DUIs. Especially if you kill somebody, you go to jail for life because the person made that decision to get in the vehicle while drunk, so they made that decision. I don't drink. It's against my religion.

Thank you for talking about trigeminal neuralgia. I was diagnosed with this condition about 20 years ago. The electric shocking pain on one side of my face improved somewhat with anti-seizure medication. However the condition got progressively worse to where I had micro vascular decompression surgery at Stanford University about 3 yrs ago. Since then I have been symptom free and off anti-seizure medication. I encourage anyone who suffers from this to consult with their doctor regarding surgery

Since I am now a licensed driver, although I am 26, I promise to NOT do what your son did on 2/1/13!
