The translation of bogeyman was probably right, but “black man” has so much more layers in German.

    • @6666Imperator
      @6666Imperator 2 года назад +16

was thinking the same. The translation is correct because what we refer to as "Schwarzer Mann" is definitely in english the Boogeyman but of course "black man" used in German then adds the second layer of people being afraid of foreigners putting all kinds of bad stereotypes onto them as they are "the unknown" so to say.

In Germany: Its interesting, in some Fairytales the "Evil" is the "Schwarze Mann". So for me as a german, it hasnt anything to do with skin color.
I would'nt translate it to "Black Man" more "Godfather Death" with his Scythe and the black Robe - Fairytale: Gebrüder Grimm 1812 - Gevatter Tod
After a trip to Mexico i learned, for them its the "white lady"... so i think back then - it had something to do with skin color or more "fear of the unknown"

Hey man, I think you totally nailed it! My thoughts were the same when I first saw this.
    1. The song is about how certain "leaders" and media want to scare people to control them. In the video, this is visualised by the red wires, computer screens an TV. Also, the entertainig industry is helping (commercials, online shopping), represented by the cheerleaders.
    2. The dominant colors in the viedeo are black, white and red, it could be a reference to the colors of the flag of the Kaiserreich and the Third Reich. Also, you can say that the world the people in this video are living in, is just black and white, no grey. It can be understood as a reference to the simple minded people who are for example voting for politicians who are telling them exactly this black/white view (WE are good, THEY are bad). Also, the band is dressed up as the stereotype of this kind of conservative people. Did you noticed that the world in the video changed to color when Till destroyed the TV?
    3. "Der schwarze Mann" (The black man) is a german synonym for a creepy, ghost-like evil. As in the first verse of the song, children are often told "to obey, or else the black man will get you". It can be translated to boogey man in english, but like often, there is another meaning in this context. As said, the video is about leaders who are seedeing fear of anything foreign in peoples minds. So, the phrase "black man" can also be interpreted literally, namely refugees. In my opinion, it is a reference to the migration crisis in 2015 in Germany. Or just remember the plans for a wall at the Mexican border...
    Greetings from Germany!

    • @Thunder_1977
      @Thunder_1977 2 года назад

I feel blessed to understand them:). Their videos are always as sick and smart as the lyrics and the music. No offense, but not everyone standing at a podium is evil, but some, and that's an important part here:). I think the cheerleaders are symbolic for marketing, the way we are shown that we need "protection" in form of walls, guns and such nonsense... Whatever, enjoy rammstein :)✌️

    Just some remarks:
The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism.
Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture.
Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear.
Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners.
This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media.

I’ve watched a few Rammstein reaction videos as they are a superb band, no question, but your reaction to this song really hit home. I can see how you got it while you were watching it. It mesmerised me when I first watched it. As with a large majority of their music, there are so many messages to disseminate. For this one, although I agree 100% with everything you noted, I also watched it and thought of Trump! It’s so appropriate, the cheerleaders all behind him (his cabinet of sycophants who were just cheering him on, regardless of the fear he was instilling in society with every breath) all with the nasty faces, faces soon dropped and replaced with smiles when they’re then selling you protection!
It’s absolute genius, these guys are really on another level - you said that, wholeheartedly agree!

in which they sing about the black man and no that has nothing to do with the color of the skin, it's about the boogeyman and fear itself. We are so busy in our time looking at our fears and our surroundings (media, radio, etc.) fuel this fear, and in the end we are so scared that we arm ourselves and shoot ourselves because we know nothing but fear. So mega cool the song is so bitter it is, but at the same time honest and real. And every time the cheerleading (Roboots) part comes they say Du = you. which comes from a child's game, here there is a catcher (the boogeyman) and the other players trying not to be caught by him. The "boogeyman" stands, for example, at the other end of the sports hall. He shouts, "Who's afraid of the boogeyman? ' while his opponents yell, 'Nobody' You're afraid of the boogeyman? Because the ironic thing is we all (humanity) are Black men (boogeyman).Don't live in fear folks, and Don't let the Fear in you.I can't describe it better because of my English Skill. Open your eyes people the world is full of colors, colors are life.

Honestly, the whole video and song get a much deeper layer when you realize what he is really saying in stead of ''bogeyman''. i know youtube would probably delete the video if the true translation was stated but i think its a shame they would since the message of the song is strongly attached to the true translation of those two words and its a subject thatm, especially in the united states, has to be more of an open debate for the well beeing of a lot of people.

I see some people already mentioned that schwarze mann literally means black man, but it's also a childrens game. I've googled that British bulldog is the American version. One person screams "who is afraid of the black man!" and the rest answer "No one!" And try to run across a field. If the black man touch you, you will also become the black man. The infection spreads. That's another layer to this song, when they sing that everyone is afraid of the black man, they are pulling at the nostalgic heartstrings of people remembering their happy childhood, just like some of these fascist leaders do.

Lovely greetings you all. Because I am german I have a slight advantage for interpretation. Angst is translated Fear. In Germany we had a Childs Play in wich on Child called out "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann" ( literal translation : Who is afraid of the black man. But the black man is the Boogyman, a malignent creature in a black Robe and not a black skinned Person. Sometimes this creature is seen as Death or Fear itself) . When the fist Child called this out everybody must answer with "Niemand" ( Nobody) and the fist child will call again "Und wenn er kommt?" ( and when he comes?) and everybody else calles again "Dann laufen wir." ( than we will run). After this the first child, standing in for this Boogyman, will try to catch the other children. Yeah a very dark ( so very traditional german ;) kind of playing Tag).
But as I know Rammstein and after seeing this Video, I think they might not speak about 'only' the Boogyman but literal black people, critizizing the irrational fear other ethnicitys or cultures awake in many peoples heart as seen in the first and last scenes of the Video, the fenced in Mother and Child that may stand in for Immigrants or refugees. Refugees are so often used in Politics to stoke fear and score some cheap political Points. Till stands here, at least in my interpretation, for the Politician, Media or Corporations who use this Tactics against the Polulation. He stokes the Fear on the one hand and sells the 'Solution' on the other Hand, the Bricks for the Walls and the Weapons.
There are so much more little Details, but I hope my Perspective helped a little, explaining the german roots of the words and the Childs-Play.

Unfortunately the hard part is "the media" sustains itself from advertising and it has been proven through several studies that when good news comes on, people change the channel. Happens time and time again. When people change the channel, advertising revenue goes down. Advertising revenue goes down and media sources stick with what they know works. So if people do their part to follow good news sources in mass then that MIGHT sway things a little bit. But for the last several decades it has been shown that people will opt for the negative news over the positive news when confronted with it.

So the official translation is "bogeyman"? That is correct, but then, some of the visuals do not work in english. The literal translation is "black man" but more in the meaning of a dark and bad man. So the pictures of black refugees and eating "Mohrenköpfe" or "mohr heads" (the chocolade covered marshmellows are difficult to understand.

The colours are those of the Third Reich and the German Empire, foreboding the return of fascism.
The "schwarzer Mann" is what we in German call the "bogeyman", but a translation misses the double meaning: "black man". Brown, black people are the bogeymen. It's also a children's game where they have to evade the "bogeyman/black man".
The cheerleaders' dance has similarities with the haka, which is a war dance.
"Angst" could be translated into English as fear, angst (common origin), anxiety, terror and dread. Which is it?
The white fences, the cheerleaders, the happy, white men mowing their lawn, the TV, the semi-automatic firearms (they're legal in the US). Clear references to the American dream.
The more the man wrecks the TV and the lawn mower, the more colour comes back to their lives.
We're normally watching refugees through our mobile phones, in camps, wandering, as if it were their everyday life. What if they watched OUR everyday lives? (towards the end of the video)
The leader of the people is in a straitjacket (demented), yet his wires are also those of the band (entertainment) and computers (ideology) which people are literally glued to.
Finally, "DU" (YOU) is being shouted during the viking clap. We're afraid of YOU.

We forget about the "Good News". Exactly. That's what it is designed to do. We shall forget about THE Good News. The Gospel.

This is the most horrifying video I've seen in a decade.
Maybe it is because it holds up a mirror and I see myself living in that hellhole called "a civil society".

I speak English and German. There are a few minor mistranslations, but the primary one I must address is “black man” instead of boogeyman. The message of this song is referencing African American race and the “fear” (angst) of them, especially in recent years. The imagery should be clear enough showing the white men with walls, automatic machine guns, surveillance, barbed wire fencing, etc. and then showing a helpless mother and child suffering from the stereotypes. This has nothing to do with any boogeyman reference. Rammstein is notorious for controversial/sarcastic/satirical messages, and this one is is about “screaming fire” at “black man” (race). Please rewatch with this in mind and the video should make more sense.

i love rammstein, but this is the one thing they got wrong. When they show them handing out ar-15s, das ist keine Angst, das ist Kriegsvorbereitung
