    I’ve never made PR food before but this came out great, very well explained recipe! I like a bit of sweetness so used some fish sauce and sugar in the marinade, and 2 yellow/2 green plantains tossed in lard/oil, baked at 400F in the air fryer for 18 min to save time. I found the marinade as directed wasn’t quite enough to coat 1lb of large pieces so I used all the marinade on the meat, then poured it into pan afterwards with some water and boiled it for a few minutes to make a food safe “sauce”. Thanks for a great recipe, subscribed!

    I'm whitebread but tried mofongo with a couple(Nuyorican) friends in a local restaurant.That stuff's so good I'm amazed it's legal,or at least a controlled substance.

    That looks delishhhh and I'm not from PR, so appreciate learning about your food. The voice over is great too and good clear instructions...the first part when speaking sounded a little "shouty", just a little observation. Will definitely try your recipes more...thank you.

    Btw your Instagram link to your Mofongo is linked to your pina colada cake, so you may want to correct that

    I miss Puerto Rico. Last time I was there was 2008. I saw a trick on another channel on you tube on how to peel plantains and green bananas. Cut the ends lightly score and put in a microwave for 10 seconds. Doesn’t cook but peels like a dream. I noticed no chicharon.

      That is very interesting, thanks for sharing! I'll have to try that. I'm always looking for quicker ways to peel plantains.

    Can olive oil be added instead of butter?

    • @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen
      @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen  4 года назад +2

      You certainly can but it will have the olive oil taste, I like it so that would not be a problem for me.

  • @JackOBlades0801
    @JackOBlades0801 Год назад +1

    A good alternative that I've found, is to fry the plantains in an air fryer. Save on oil that way.

    • @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen
      @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen  Год назад

      It has not worked out that great for us. The plantains are not soft on the outside and crispy outside. What are your tricks?

    La jente de la Republica Dominicana le hacen creer a los norte americanos y todo el mundo que el Mofongo y los tostones es comida del pais de ellos pero no es verdad porque el Mofongo
    Tostones es comida de Boriken hoy dia Puerto Rico pero lo que si es de ellos el Mangu.

      Asi es, tambien en la Republica Dominicana estan haciendo nuestros Pasteles y le ponen de titulo en sus videos y que "Pasteles Dominicanos". Eso es una falcedad, los Pasteles y el Mofongo son de Puerto Rico.❤

    Is jeff Puerto Rican?

    • @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen
      @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen  2 года назад

      Jeff was born and raised in Mayagüez. He lived there until he was 13 before moving to the states. His parents were not born in Puerto Rico, which is why I think his looks made you ask this question. So, we say yes 🇵🇷 aunque naciera en la luna.

      Olive oil has a particular strong taste so it may be better for you health wise but it’s not traditional
