as a child I always drank from the hose. It always tasted like the hose when you first started to drink and you had to let it run a few seconds or you got hot water if the hose was laying in the sun. lol. Mom wouldnt let us in to get a drink out of the fridge. I think she was glad to have the house all to herself for a while. lol.
Yes, we definitely drank from the water hose. You never told mom you we're bored.
My grandparents had an old fashion hand pump in the backyard and we got drinks from that! It was always so cold and refreshing! Nothing better!
We didn’t have a hose but a well hand pump with a galvanized tin cup always hanging on it it was always cold cold cold!!!!!! I am 66 and remember it well
I love making a large pot of rice at the beginning of the week to make different meals, it is so versatile.
Great idea!❤
Yes!!!!!! Always and still do when working outside now and I am 63 years old.
ME, TOO!!! AND I'm 63!!!! 🙃
Me too and sometimes straight from the faucet.
My mom would not let us back in the house in the summer after she mopped & waxed the floors until they dried so if we got thirsty, the "hose pipe" was where you got hydrated. FYI, lived on west coast for 8 years, nobody out there has a clue what a hose pipe is 🤔🤭🙄.
Absolutely!! Always have and always will!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was how we lived!!! And I don't regret one day of it!!! We had the best childhood!!! @@dianeallen4468
What’s that saying “I’m a tap water girl in a bottle water world “😊
Thanks for the rice recipes, definitely winners ❤
I just had to say on a hot day a good ole slurp from the garden hose outside with a splash to the face is just the thing to cool off!!
drinking from the hose was the best part of playing outside when I was a kid. If we got thirsty we could just grab a drink without having to go inside and if we got too hot, we could spray ourselves to cool off
Yes, use broth but also toast the rice in a bit of oil or butter before adding the broth.
Great tip❤
Yep, I drank from the hose too!
And be home when the street lights came on.
Me too ❤
Same!
Think that was the universal signal
I think the world changed when kids stopped drinking from garden hoses 😢
Yes I did. And I still do if I’m working in the garden and need a drink! 67 yo here.
I bought rice at Walmart this morning and my half Japanese boy loves any rice I make 😉.
He brought lunch for cucumber rolls long time ago and his classmates were surprised 😮.
Love your steamer!! You can make Chinese dumplings 🥟 if you want to make.
Thank you for sharing your recipes 😋
Absolutely YES, I drank from the water hose, the rain barrels and from the pump on the well. Coldest water, ever.
Broccoli cheese rice can be a casserole if you add shredded rotisserie chicken to it. It’s one of my favorite dishes.
Yummy ❤
We make this in my house as well!
I absolutely grew up drinking from the hose. You guys are absolutely great
Hey Mandy, they all looked delicious!!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes with us. Steven and you are so funny. Give Gracie some love and cheese from me. Have a blessed and beautiful week.
We eat so much rice, I cook it by the 3 cups at a time for my family of 3! I switched to using the EPC, too, and it's set and forget. I use chicken bouillon granules and 3 cups water, and recently, have started adding a tablespoon of turmeric at the same time. If you like that spice, it's so good, and the color is so beautiful. I too, rinse, drain, and sauté the rice until it's nice and golden before I add the water, bouillon, and turmeric. Set at 4 minutes, and leave for a natural release. It's always perfectly cooked and I store in fridge for sides and for egg fried rice ... my daughter loves to add frozen veggies and an egg to the rice for her breakfast. Liked this video - TFS!
Awesome idea re the Tumeric - I'll have to try it, Tumeric is great for arthritis & lowering inflammation too! ❤
Baby is adorable😺😺😺
Mandy, take a cookie cooling rack, plave over bowl, place half avocado with the skin, on top of rack flesh side down and press down. It will help in the mashing process because you get smaller pieces👍
Love the recipe s, when i make cream of mushroom soup...i use the mix and chop...thank you for turning me on to it...i was going to order one..but went to a local street fair....there it was...in a booth....bought 2...cause my neighbor had to hear me talk about getting one for a good couple weeks..i went driving up to her house on my golfcart..holding it proudly in the air...she was laughing so hard...now i have great memories...over a mix and chop....gotta love it❤..
Big ol thankx to you..
Always drank from the hose growing up and making sure my grandkids do it too! Got to keep that tradition going! 😄
Great rice recipes, thanks Mandy!
Team Cilantro, all the way! And yes, I drank from a hose when I was young. That broccoli-cheese-rice is definitely going to be a side, soon. My gas stove doesn't get low enough, so I use my instant pot. I also add a bit extra water. It makes my rice extra soft. My 2 year old granddaughter can eat it that way.
Can’t stand the smell of Cilantro much less the taste. Yes we all drank from the hose but I don’t anymore, my husband did until he died last year. Where do I get a knife like that pretty one?
This is a threefer: 1. Yes to the water hose. 2. No to the cilantro. 3. I make Lebanese rice. Start by browning fideo (aka vermicelli)[angel hair pasta also works] in butter till lightly browned. Add rice (I don't rinse mine), water and cook till done. Yummo!
Doesn't it have onion & lemon in it, or am I thinking of Greek Rice? ❤
@@sandybowman7140 Lebanese rice doesn't have anything extra in it. Could be Greek, but I really don't know.
I'm not a fan of rice but that broccoli one looks really good. I think I will try it
We still drink from the outside water hose. We have well water. And it is the best water. It is always so cold❤❤❤
Mushrooms and rice are two of my favorite foods. Mushrooms and rice together are unbeatable ❤ I will definitely be trying this recipe.❤
I always use chicken broth for my brown rice and quinoa. Almost always put some salsa in it too! 😋
Yes, as a kid growing up in the Texas Panhandle we drank out of the water hose. In the summer you learned very quick to let the water run for a minute or else you were drinking water that was almost boiling. It also washed out any critters that may have crawled in there to get out of the sun. I've now learned another regional word, "poppies". We called them soda pops. Thanks for this video, I need more rice recipes and the first one looks really good.
Poppies, sodas, soda pops are always cokes ! Lol
Yep we all drank from the water hose but we also had a spring house that had the coldest water. ❤
We have a drink fridge on our patio too!
Love rice!
Rice is my most favorite food on the planet! As a kid my sweet Mama would make what was called thickening gravy, gravy made from milk and bacon grease, a make me a big ol bowl of rice with that on it!!! I just loved it!!!!❤. When we were mean little brats we drank from the water hose all the time just to keep from going in the house !!!!😂😂😂
Hey hey Mandy ❤❤. I love rice!!!
I love rice ❤ I could eat it every day.
Love watching you and the boys... Y'all make me laugh and that's a good thing I'm going thru. Chemo and lost most of my hair so to laugh is great.. yes I have had water from a hose when I was younger.... I would eat the first two rices you made I'm not a mushroom person.... Have a wonderful day... God bless 🙏🥰🥰
Praying for you Karen 😘
Oh Karen, I'm so sorry ur going thru this hard time, I'll keep u close in my heart & prayers! Keep holding onto ur faith & hope. Sending u love from West Michigan! ❤
We're continuing to pray for you, Karen.
@@sandybowman7140 thank you so much I have a few years of different treatments I have to do am hoping the last two won't make me sick.. I have the Lord Jesus in my heart and he walks with me everyday.. God bless your kind words and you... Thanks again🙏❤️
@@MrsAlmaTrumble thank you for your continuing support and prayers.. means a lot....🙏❤️
Love your channel! When I steam veggies, I like to add sliced garlic into the water. It makes the veggies yummy!👍❤️
Never thought of doing this Thanks for the tip❤
Great idea!!
FYI
Mandy, you should try mashing avacados with a potato masher...
Egg yolks for stuffed eggs mash well with the masher...
Rice is my favorite carb. These three look like I need to try them! Thanks.
❤OH my goodness I'm loving all three of these rice dishes, thanks for sharing. Yes I also drank from a hydrant and cistern and now in my old age I drink from my water hose when I am outside.😊
I’m a rice lover also and the best and most nutritious rice is parboiled rice.
Yes I buy parboiled rice the best ..
I never noticed there was a thing as parboiled, I'll have to look for it. My favorite kind lately is Trader Joe's frozen Jasmin Rice, u microwave it as is in the packet straight from the freezer for 3.5 mins on high & have perfectly cooked rice fast. I'm older so these tricks are my jam lately! 😅❤
@@sandybowman7140 it’s not frozen it’s just like traditional rice in a bag and it cooks just like traditional rice. The difference is you don’t have to rinse it and it’s far more nutritious than regular rice.
@@zoyedivine3097 Fabulous, thank u for the education! ❤️
I love making the cheese rice with different vegetables every time I make it. I love a scoop of it in the morning with an egg on top. I still drink out of the hose and when you've been working outside and get a little over heated, I just pour the hose over my head. Refreshing
Me and my cousins always drank from the water hose!!! Even after it's been buried in the DIRT for days!!!! We just brush it off, turn on the hose, and rinse it off and put it to our lips!!! Me and my cousins did even more than that, too. We would wade in a creek, ride 2 on a bike, get scraped up and get iodine put on our cuts and shoved outside, and climbed the jungle gym and fell off many times, and we STILL continued playing until the street lights came on. We had the best childhood!!!! We had fun!!! No cell phones, no video games. We had our imaginations to invent stuff to do. I was even climbing trees with my kids when I was 28 years old! Yes, we were dangerous and adventurous. And we did it again the next day. AAAAHHHHH... those were the good ol' days!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh yes, we drank from the water hose, and we left on the bikes Saturday morning and were outside all day long
You got me...I said YES out loud when you asked if we could see the broccoli rice!
Yep, I drank from the hose too 😂
This is how much I love you and Steven. I watched the entire video and enjoyed it, even though I despise cilantro, avocado, lime, and mushrooms! 🤣
I could eat broccoli cheese rice every other day. I was definitely a kid that drank from the water hose. Tip: If you use your mix n chop on the avocado, it works better than a fork.
I'm going to make all of these!! Thanks Mandy!
Love all of these!
Oh yeah I use to drink from the hose as a kid. I have really enjoy your videos always give me great ideas. ❤
Absolutely drank from the hose. And the creek that runs through the yard.
I saw a video of a cardiac doctor on foods that you should not eat. Brown rice was listed it contains traces of arsenic.
Wow I didn’t know that
I love rice. Thank you for these ideas. Definitely good sides for me 😊😂😊. We definitely drank water from the hose. If we ran into the house for water, we'd have to stay in with other chores to do. I love guacamole and have just started using cilantro.
I love rice. All 3 of those rice dishes look delicious.
I live on a horse farm so I STILL drink from the water hose! I even have scooped up water with my hand from the horse trough. I am 76 years old so it hasn't killed me yet. 😉
I look forward to trying the mushroom rice recipe!! It looks amazing!! ❤
I will LOVE making the mushroom rice, I love mushrooms and this would make a great side. thanks!
I use my rice cooker. My rice cooks up perfectly.
Love your title. Not boring rice here! Your makeup looks flawless. Very pretty.
Thank you so much! 😊😊😊
My pleasure. ❤@@MandyintheMaking
I finally bought the cheese shredder you use, and it is a game changer for sure!!!!!
Great video Mandy. I love Rice and carbs too. Yes, when I was a kid we always drank from the hose and we pulled fresh veggies from the garden, spwiped them off and ate them. Nothing wrong with a little dirt. I am not a fan of cilantro, it has an off taste to me, I use parsley instead. Thanks for sharing such good recipes. Happy Easter to you all.❤️
Yum, I want to try the mushroom first
Mandy I loved your shirts from this video! Would you mind sharing where you got them and/or the brand? Keep cooking and sharing your family with us! I am actually enjoying the kitchen for the first time in my life because of your generosity!
Thank you! They are from the brand Crown and Ivy. I got them at Belk last year. I have a couple more too. Lol, when I find a shirt I like, I buy one in almost every color 🤣
@@MandyintheMaking I’m the same way! I saw the blue and was like “I love that” then you wore another and I was like “I need those!!” I’m going to search right now for all the colors!!
Absolutely, we drank from the garden hose. I love rice and can't wait to try your recipes especially the one with mushrooms.
The water from a hose is sooooo cold and good. We fill up our water bottles with it. I’ve drank from the hose and a spicket since I was a kids. Grew up in the country next to my grandparents farm. Raised my kids that way n now my grandkids are being raised that way.
You two are so down to earth and funny. So in love!! Keep up the awesome content. Could you please do some more of your favorite things 😀
Looks like I found new ways to cook rice, yum thank you Mandy
Yes, I love cilantro!
Can't do cilantro..soapy, soapy, soapy.😝 but, I love lime juice.Thanks for sharing!!
Rice is a favorite at my house !.. Thanks for the new recipes !
We taught our grandchildren about drinking from a hose. I am sure our DIL was mortified. Our son did that when growing up. Love video!
Thank youmandy for the great ideas. I love ur ideas. Thanks.
Yummy I love rice those look so delicious. Thanks for sharing 🥰
Mandy’s rice recipes are the best…ALL of them!! ❤
My grandparents had the old spout water pump in the back of the house near the kitchen. They lived in Virginia and I spent my summers drinking that cold spring refreshing water.
‘74 baby here and I still grab me some hose water when I’m in the garden 😃
I can’t wait to try these! My favorite rice is your lemon and herb rice so far ❤ I can not wait to try that mushroom one especially!!
❤❤❤They all look delicious.
Love rice.
I love watching for new ideas and hanging out but this was the first time I IMMEDIATELY put in a grocery order for a recipe (and other items obv). Just got all the things I needed for the cheesy broccoli rice, then realized all I have is jasmine rice in my pantry but I think it'll still be totally delicious! Planning on adding either a dollop of sour cream or cream cheese (they were out of the melty mozzarella) instead of milk and might try to add some riced cauliflower from the freezer to sneak in more veggies. I can't wait! 😋
I have been making my own vegetable broth. So good!
Lots of great ideas of things to do with rice. Especially for summer, this beats heating up the house to bake a casserole - just make it on stove top, or cook rice in a rice cooker and add the other goodies. And yes, drank water from the hose outside while doing yard work or watering mom's flowers.
Those all look so yummy! Definitely going to have to try them out. You look gorgeous in that shade of pink!
Happy Easter ❤
We always drank from the hose when I was a kid. We hated going inside just to get a drink so we just cranked the hose on and went back to playing. All those rice dishes sounded so yummy!
I love avocado too. I like to chop up 2 hard boiled eggs, dice an avocado, add some chili pepper flakes, a little mayo and everything but the bagel seasoning and crumbled crispy bacon. It is soooo good!
All of those look fantastic. I was thinking of adding some fresh Parmesan cheese to the mushroom rice. Thank you Mandy!
I found a steamer like you now have at a thrift shop. I love it.
You two make my heart happy! Make my day! Love watching you! Keep it up! Love from Arizona!😍
Love Cilantro!
By adding a little Mayo (Kewpie is preferred but not necessary) to the rice while it's warm is a game changer, then add garlic and soy sauce and stir fry .....omg it's so good!!!!
I have been trying to decide on getting some Kewpie Mayo & now I will, just needed that push over the edge. I recently bought Filipino Banana Ketchup too - it's delicious! ❤
Wow! Great dishes. I always look forward to your videos. 💕💕💕
Thanks for the great ideas 🙂
Oh my! These three dishes look delicious! I am the only rice fan in the house, but I am going to make me some! Loved Gracie-Lou putting in her order for cheese. Oh yes, Common Tater, the water hose is still the way to nab a drink outside! Thank you, beautiful Mandy for these recipes! Have a great week! 😊❤
Awesome rice recipes, thanks 🥚👍🥚
I still drink from the hose when im working in the yard we love rice i will definitely be adding these recipes to my rotation ❤
For your cllantro lime rice, add 1/4 -1/2 tsp of mojo seasoning (dry seasoning salt) to your rice While cooking. It wil make it even tastier. Mojo is citrus based seasoning with some onion and garlic background, it will surprise you.
Looked up ingredients. Can't go wrong, just put some in my Walmart cart. Gracias amigo!!
I click love on your videos everytime but don't comment often. Today I laughed out loud, which you make me laugh every time, and I thought when I hear your cute music I know something funny is about to happen! Happy Blessed Easter to ya'll from Texas!
Mandy I truly love your channel and Gracie makes it even better and your family!
Yes, I definitely drank from the garden hose when I was young. I’m not a broccoli fan but I’m going to try the broccoli cheese rice, it looks so good. I really enjoy your videos.❤
