If you look closely at the older players, you can see how they were in pain. Scottie's legs and back were shot. Kerr didn't have the legs. Hakeem's legs weren't all there nor was Robinsons. Sean Elliott had bad knees. Those guys were old and banged up by 1999. Antoine Carr had to turn into a jump shooter. No more banging bodies under the rim. Those guys left the league around that time. Old and hurt.

I think Scottie's lower back is bothering him from the previous season. Pippen's legs were fine in 99-00

      Good point.
So in a way, the 1998 lockout that ate almost half the season (and almost cancelled the entire season) was a blessing in disguise.
This gives players more time to recuperate and take care of themselves (if they did).

Barkley with his Jordan 14’s doing his usual dirty work in the paint and had the jumper falling from outside, he and Tim only matched up a few times before Barkley would retire but they didn’t disappoint. Two hall of fame frontcourts and Mario Elie (formerly a Rocket) with the kiss of death. These veteran heavy games are nostalgic! Nothing better than nba on nbc.

Man 99 had some series one shot or last shot defining moments that made that year exciting. Season and Playoffs. You have this. You have Elliot’s Memorial Day Miracle shot vs Blazers. Johnson’s game winning shot vs Knicks to win it all (not last second shot but it was the last bucket made). You even had the Blazers Stoudemire’s shot taken at Johnson that he personally could never win a chip 😂

If u know positions on the court u see that Admiral was stretch 4 , that provides Duncan to have space on his fav center post position he is incredible 1 on 1 due to his size but he is useless in fast trap, double team or any other system. 80% of his career he was center on the court not PF.

The 2000s Western Conference teams were always exciting to me. That’s when you HAD to win 50 games just to have the chance to make 8th seed. Spurs Rockets Lakers Mavs Suns Wolves man it was always packed. Being a life long Spurs fan it was always exciting. Except for having to listen to ESPN when they hosted games during the playoffs and wrote off the Spurs each and every time.

@@DavidOkutinyang-td4jthe never said he was better than olajuwon but as far as skill set his talents didn't match the way he was accustomed in Chicago under the triangle offense . In Chicago it's constant motion constant ball movement unless Jordan hogged the ball but he was use to a style that complimented his skill set. Olajuwon needed the ball more in the post so there's not much movement like in todays game where there is pick and pop pick and roll dish and kick game

The tale of two (2) rattles:
    - Playing in the shadows of the GOAT, Scottie Pippen had opportunities to get out from that huge hurdle in Chicago (failed) then in Houston. He missed, which turned out the beginning of the Rockets' downward spiral (finished 5th seed). Instead taking responsibility, he constantly complaining of the team's stagnant offense and Charles being "fat".
    - Though not the main guy, Mario Elie brought nastiness and toughness to Spurs which often labeled (or mislabeled) as "soft". Elie is more driven because it is against his former team. It was personal; guess he was not re-signed so to create cap room for Pippen's lucrative deal.
Although not the same as Elie's "kiss of death" in 1995 (poor Phoenix), the winning shot was somewhat a breakthrough game for the Spurs, a first glimpse of the team's usual routine of finishing the season strong in subsequent years.
The intention is to aim for the second-best record. But with Utah somehow losing critical games in the final weeks, San Antonio found themselves winning final three (3) crucial games en route to the league's best record (identical with the Jazz at 37-13; Spurs had the tie-braker).
One of those wins was against the Jazz (hope you can share it too, MDBball). ^^
