    📝 ABOUT THIS VIDEO
A few weeks ago I switched from using a Native Instrument's Maschine to the ATOM by PreSonus to do all of my drum recording inside of Studio One.
Before this, I had been using the Maschine for 8 years or so and I think it's a wonderful piece of gear but the ATOM for me integrates flawlessly into my workflow, especially since I already use Studio One.
The switch did mean that I had to tweak my workflow a little and learn Impact XT, which is Studio One's native drum sampler but it was surprisingly really easy to set up and use.
I've been using this ATOM and Impact combo for a few weeks now so today I'm going to show you how you can use these two to start recording drums in Studio One for yourself as well.
    Enjoy!

Great way of explaining things. I'm coming from old school digital multitrack recorders and using separate gear for keys, guitar, etc. and just now switching over to DAW , after a few years out of the loop :). Trying out Studio One 5 and found this video.

I think im going to buy the Atom. I use Studio One 5 Pro and im tired of using a normal midi keyboard to perform drums. I really want to upgrade to pads. Im kinda torn between the Atom and the Atom SQ. The SQ has soooo many awesome features that integrates into Studio One that i would LOVE to use and try out, but since im looking for pads for drum production i think the Atom is the better option. Has anyone here used the Atom SQ, and if so, does it work well as a replacement for normal grid based pads?

    • @ImIvanCalderon
      @ImIvanCalderon  Год назад +1

I think it depends on the kit honestly. I've heard some really great kits that were sampled beautifully and personally I couldn't tell the difference. Impact has some great kits in there but if you are looking to expand, one of my all time favorite plugins for programming acoustic drums is EZ Drummer by Toontracks. They incorporate everything including overhead and room mics to get a real life sound. Check it out if you haven't already!

new user to Studio One 5-Complete newbie. I found Impact XT and started to use the "little drum stick" to create my own full drum track-that appears to tedious...where if you have an Akai or an Atom..it looks like it would be far easier. Still confused over all the tracks you have showing in the mixer-I have one track with various "hand-keyed" (using little drum stick) drum parts.
    So my questions are:
1.) the Atom or Akai MPIII will allow me to create several individual drum tracks? (Then you could create a Drum Bus of all the drums)?
2.) Either way, you have to map the Akai keyboard or Atom to Impact XT for the drum kit you want? Like you did?..C1...then D#
3.) if you have a complete song (drum tracks) and started to record guitar-the tempo you chose when you set up the song-the drum tracks (all parts) would follow and play allowing you to follow?
4.)By mapping (or routing)you still have to create a "pattern"-basically your whole song to insert by step sequence or tap or on your keyboard or Atom?
Apologies for the dumb questions-but there is so much information and I just want to come up to speed. First person I've come across that explains all this.
    Subscribed...Most Definitely!!

    • @ImIvanCalderon

Just set the EZ Drummer track to have input from the ATOM. The sounds from EZ Drummer are already assigned to different pitches on the piano roll so the ATOM will recognize it and you’ll be able to play like normal.

As long as you're making the music you like then that's all that matters. Music is forever changing and if that is something that you are not comfortable with then stick to the methods that you prefer, like recording an actual drum kit. And by the way, this isn't new. Drum machines and drum samples have been around since the 80s.

      Ummm...Mr. StuckinTime.
As time progresses...so does the meaning of things!
Drum machines, drum samples are made up of sounds that DRUMS make, so regardless if they are electronically manipulated, they are STILL DRUMS!
And thank you Ivan for this brilliant and informative DRUM tutorial.
