Thank you so much for taking the time to produce a no nonsense tutorial video. I’ve learned more from this video than the other dozen 20 min videos about Studio One basics!
I just discovered your channel and let me tell you I really enjoyed how slowly you explain everything, rather than just blazing through it all like most channels do. Ive had my studio one for some years now and I've gradually learned quite a bit, but still need more years of experience of course. I get a bit stressed out at times because most channels talk so fast and i have to rewind 20x to get what their doing. Awesome video Tim!! I have been studio one user for 8 years now. I am currently in process of making my studio business a full time career and I've decided to niche down on just strictly audio editing work for now to keep my business model simple. I really enjoyed watching your video and getting refreshed on all the edit tools. DAWS have so many tools built in that in can be easy to forget about a quicker option or tool you never knew existed. I am all update on studio 6 now as well. cheers and I have subscribed to your channel !!

When you time stretch something to be longer, there are processes that make audible "artifacts" within the audio. Try it out for yourself. Record yourself saying a short sentence, then time stretch it way longer than you should and listen back. It will sound digital. Great question though! I may make a video about it!

Absolutely great, Tim. Next time the backing vocals are not in time somewhere in the piece... I'll use band markers and fix it hoping not to create any artifacts.
Greqt video. Thanks! You touch on the automation and the waves\lines and parabola halfway through but can you explain what the wave is for? Like Are those lines qnd waves related to volume/pitch/timing?

Great vid, don't know why it took me three weeks to find your channel. Way more in depth than the Presonus vids. I am having a problem with getting the fade in and out and cross fade bars to come up. On some tracks they come up right away and others I can't seem to get that little white box to click to start adjusting. Help? Maybe it's explained in another vid
I'll have to take a look, but they may not be there if you aren't on the selector or "smart" tool. If you have the Mute tool or other, the fade in/out/cross might not be an option.
Hi I have learned a number of things from your video. I AM having trouble with editing voices where there may be something like breathing on a trac and it needs to be cut out. Also, when I click in the range area to get maybe a cutting tool ,mine does not seem to change. Can u direct me to specific instruction.
Thanks for this video. It helped me. Another question.I am just starting out with Studio One. Is there a command available/I can create that will delete everything from the cursor to the start of the track/from the cursor to the end of the track. Not a section or region - everything? So let's say I am playing an audio track and I stop at a point and want to delete everything to the left or right of where I stopped. I know I can highlight or split, etc. but that's a few steps and since I do this all the time I would prefer a single keystroke to do this. Any input is appreciated in advance.
You’ll have to change your time base. On top, it might be set to 1/16 or 1/8, adjust that to one bar and you should be good! If not, after you write the sine wave for your pan, switch to the transform tool, and you should be able to stretch or compress as needed!
Hi Tim, I've tried layers but when I go to delete sections within, it will not recognize the edits. How do I get out of the layers settings. At t his point I don't ever want to use layers again. Thanks, Russell Harris
Do you mean MIDI chords? You can drag Midi files into your system via the built in browser and then drag them into new songs. If you are talking about within the same song, you can hold down OPT/ALT on your keyboard and then click and drag the midi event anywhere you want. I hope this helps!

Tim, this is really helpful -- much better than the StudioOne documentation, which is nearly useless. I am hoping you can answer one question for me -- how did you get to that screen in the first place (early in the video when you say "Here we are inside Studio One")? You've got several (I think three) horizontal bands that I assume are "tracks," and then the fourth horizontal band, on the bottom of the screen -- is that also a track? Or is that an editing band of some kind? I keep trying to erase an accidental noise I made with my bass while recording a bass track, but when I click the eraser and then click the eraser symbol on the noise in the bass track, it erases the entire bass track instead of just erasing the brief noise. Sorry for asking such a detail question, but I don't know how else to find an answer.
The three additional you are seeing, are different layers or takes for that channel in question. The fourth is a bus channel with automation lanes showing, in this instance, volume automation. If you are trying to cut out a bad note, you should find where the next good note begins and simply cut the event there, you can then erase or mute the funky note.
you can single click on anode or point and hit delete, or if you need to clear out a large area, you can use the range tool, highlight the nodes in question, and then delete!
