If you produce music, chances are you have heard of sampling at some point.
Sampling is when you take a pre-existing piece of audio and chop it up to restructure and repurpose it to create your own melodic phrase.
This technique has been around for years and is used in many genres, from hip-hop to dance music.
Traditionally in hip hop, sampling has been done in hardware units like the iconic MPC of the Maschine, but if you don't have one of those or if you like to stay in the box, then we have to resort to software solutions and if you use Studio One then in this video Ivan Calderon shows you the best way to do it using Impact XT.

Thanks Ivan, this is great! You didn't talk about getting the key of the sample to make sure the rest of the sounds or bass / 808 are tuned to harmonize with the samples.
Great video! I personally use Serato Sample. I know it's not native but it works really well and sometimes getting the right tool for a specific job saves time and flow in the long run.
100%, Serato Sample is a fantastic tool that I find myself using a ton as well!
Just a thought on chopping the sample in Impact. As you change the length with follow tempo on, it may be adjusting the tempo of the sample so that the new smaller sample takes up the same length as the original sample. That would mean it would slow the smaller sample down to cover the lounger period of time. I don’t know if that’s the right way to do it or not, but in some cases it may be what someone wants. Y'all right with everything you said. Sample One XT and Impact XT needs a tons of update. I stopped using them when I tried TAL Sampler and there Drum vst, bro... those plugins are hitting hard and sounds vintage, cross fading, saturation, clipper, different time stretching algorithm and to end the story, they can even downsample in any form without dragging the PC. I hope presonus does something on there sampler's.

When you chop the audio how can you resave the individual chops as new audio? It’s driving me nuts,then you can chuck the individual audio into the sampler and you got full control on each chop
I've been having a delay issue wit my atom and it's throwing my timing off. Any advice
I use the track to record samples and then use Presence Editor to save as patches - and you can set loop points in Presence. So easy - don't know why more don't do this. I never use Sample One!
Hello, i am quite new to Studio one, and i have a question i dont know where to ask, so i do it here :) . Sometimes i am not able to prelisten samples i want to add in impact, And i have no idea why, and what i have to change, or what is different. Because in some projects it works and in others it doesnt. So specified again, when i want to put individual samples by "add sample" and browse my own drumsamples and i want to listen to it before adding them sometimes i hear them, and in other projects i can click the "play"-symbol, it counts the time, but i dont get sound. Any help ?

I saw a video where they dragged and dropped the sample while holding shift to the first pad and it auto sliced the sample across the pads.
That method is really good for drum loops with clear transients but from my experience it rarely ever creates usable chops for melodic loops. On top of that it doesn't create crossfades so each chop usually ends up with some sort of pops and clicks at the start/end.
I would just chop up on my mpc live then send it to studio one track
Why don’t use Maschine or MPC as a Vst
I've used both before but now a days I just use Sample One for my drums.

with artificial intelligence... translate your videos into audio, put them in Latin Spanish or Spain and create, a playlist of the Spanish version and you will have many Spanish-speaking audiences ... it would be super cool...🤯
Steinberg is so far ahead of Studio One for sampling, Halion is literally they best soft sampler out and Groove Agent is also very robust, Studio Ones plugins may aswell be freeware in comparison. For sampling yiu definitely want Cubase.
Ivan stop giving out the secrets of impact XT chopping lol you forgot one other great part of sampling in Impact XT but I’m going to keep that one to myself lol 😂

For drums sure, gotta have some swing, but not for melodys. Chops gotta be tight lol
