The Future of Design
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 сен 2013
- SpaceX is exploring methods for engineers to accelerate their workflow by designing more directly in 3D. We are integrating breakthroughs in sensor and visualization technologies to view and modify designs more naturally and efficiently than we could using purely 2D tools. We are just beginning, but eventually hope to build the fastest route between the idea of a rocket and the reality of the factory floor. Special thanks to Leap Motion, Siemens and Oculus VR, as well as NVIDIA, Projection Design, Provision, and to everyone enabling and challenging the world to interact with technology in exciting new ways.

The LeapMotion is still shitty.
I don't see myself working like that - way to uncomfortable. A space navigator, where I can rest my hand on is way more handy. Although this looks cooler. VR is going to flop, too. AR will be the next big thing in the industrial workplace...
I guess there's no blockade from shameless selfadvertisement.
...about the same, its a leapmotion
I wouldn't be surprised if Elon did something like "We were tired of using our hands, so now all of our computers are mind controlled."

Neuralink will be the next generation device, leapfrogging the anticipated VR/AR glass period
to see this integrated into ar/vr (with today’s technology) and made more accessible in the near future will definitely change how we work, interact, study, and experiment for the better.
we are getting closer and closer to the technology featured in sci-fi/fantasy movies/series/shows we dream of using.
also, very odd of youtube to recommend me and you all this 10 y/o video.
This is another little project on his spare time!!
It was mentioned before and I agree; this hand gesture thing actually feels way more clumsy than the precision you can achieve with keyboard and mouse. It's like trying to write with your fingertips instead of using a pen or a sharp pencil. I think the focus should be on the 3d visualisation while still using appropriate tools for the interaction.
just have with vr and it will be very precise.
I could also imagine it getting quite exhausting waiving your hand around in mid air, instead of resting it comfortably on a desk while using a mouse. VR would make a better use case for hand gesturing because it feels more natural to real life... But then again you'd still have to worry about fatigue, so I think working with both traditional computers and in VR would be the best situation
@@mission3479 yeah, I do feel like mouse is easier though :)) but in some quick, short situation, maybe hand gesture is faster and convenient
Only for visualization. Sketching and making accurate feature needs a precision of keyboard and CAD dedicate mouse.
glad someone has pointed this out, amidst people just cheering. it's ok to view the design, but to actually create it? you need a precise pointer, that rests while you leave it, in the first place, and the hands are unstable, you need to select from dozens of tools too, through many menus, etc.. the existing interface - keyboard and mouse has its drawbacks but for 3d creation, other tools than hand gestures would be more effective. I, in fact, designed something for that cause, but the funds, people I met were not interested.
You already know the meme template:
-Using a mouse and 2D monitor to create CAD models.
-Using complex hand sensors to create CAD models.
-Using 3D glasses to create CAD models.
-Using a VR headset to create CAD models.

Most likely vr headsets since it lets them visualize scale and genuine 3d.
There are so many CAD software, they are advanced since the 80s already. The simulation hand interface is not that important, you can use a device for it to visualize, again old technology. The problem with most CAD software is the integration in large assemblies, they are all very slow at large scale.
Most of their engineers will be using a mouse/space mouse combo. If you use CAD you know this is a gimmick and not practical for designing 10 hours a day. VR might be used too for visualisation/reviews but not actually design.
@@stephenworsley Fair point, maybe in the future ar combined with a space mouse would make sense since it’s the best of both worlds.
