I am so glad that someone decided to bring up all of this on youtube. This series is seriously one of the best game series to ever exist and now hardly anyone knows what it is anymore. They had so many cool Ideas and things to work off of for a proper jak 4 but went the entire wrong way about it. Ill never forgive naughtydog for how theyve massacred my boy.
@@3v068 it was more the last of us. But I'm happy Neil druckman didn't reboot the series like he was planning. After watching a video of him talking about it. Sounds like he didn't even know Daxter used to be human. He was just gonna tear the soul out of the series to make it more realistic and edgy.
@@TheYetixOUTx I'd have to disagree here. The last of us didn't come out until long after y Jak and Daxter was killed off. It was all uncharted. That game is the whole reason why j&d was sent off to high impact games to begin with. Uncharted is the entire reason the series was killed off and I hate it. If I wanted an Indiana Jones experience, i would play the Lego Indiana Jones games, or I'd watch the movies. It was a terrible ripoff.
@@3v068 I mean its pretty documented that they were working on a realistic Jak game before they made it Last of Us. I mean I think the same thing happened with Uncharted but Im unsure. And Uncharted is extremely fun to me. Some great puzzles and scenery to explore. I hate Indiana Jones but really like that whole explorer genre so its welcomed by me. I dont think its a rip off just its own thing with the same premise. There's a video with Druckman on stage talking about how development for a Jak reboot ended up turning into the Last of Us tho. Sounds like he was sabotaging the series in hopes to get his college short story picked up instead and it eventually worked.
One reason I can think of for moving the start of the story to the village is that it's a easy way to not bother with the sages that were at the final cutscene of the first game.
I love how they went into such detail with Jak's attire, and gave each piece of clothing a use and reason for him having it, same with the jet board and morph gun (Boom Stick, heh). Cool shit! Statue of Mar page was very interesting, looking forward to your analysis on it! Great work as always. I'm especially looking forward to your Jak 3 CE stuff cause I didn't manage to get one, so the hype is through the roof for them videos!
I know, I love how there's thought behind every design aside from "it looks cool". Cheers man, I would have already made a video, but I kinda died. That sucks you didn't get one, hopefully you can snag a Jak X. I've already read through the Jak 3 bible, certainly some interesting changes that I can't wait to discuss
It's not that Jack couldn't talk in the first game it's just every time he tried to talk another person would cut him off not letting him get a word in edgewise
I doubt it, they say in the game that a wastelander is someone who collects items outside the city walls. Perhaps they had a desert type place planned for 2 but didn't get time
@@Roo-Kong-the-Sexiest-Zombie there was actually recently found in the ps3 version of jak 2 a super early version of spargas city so either that was scrapped for jak 2 to moved to jak 3 or more probably jak 3 already being planned super early probably around the end of jak 2's development. Pretty cool to think about
I dont understand why things like "Metalheads are released in the past when Jak travel to the future" and "Jak is Mar" are theories. Those are things that are very clear in the games, and pushed forward by side-characters; Samos saying "so this is how it happen" and Ashelin pointing out "What, Mar, the Mar!?" when it is told that this is the real name of Jak. It's "Show dont tell", with heavy clues in case kids dont connect A and B by themselves.
The Boom Stick reminds me of the Lobber from The Lost Frontier. Perhaps High Impact Games found information about the Boom Stick in whatever material Naughty Dog gave them and decided to give that weapon concept another go. Granted it's been a long while since I've played TLF, I could be remembering how that weapon functions wrong.
The Mar thing has been solved already, theories are hard to make when more things than before are known. Jak somehow being his own ancestor, a great leader and inventor (somehow, he has 0 such skilled ever shown), was something Naughty Dog wanted to do, then had second thoughts, then scrapped entirely. Kind of like how Anakin Skywalker was originally a separate person in A New Hope until George had an idea for a plot twist during rewrites of Empire (look it up).
@@SaltedMallows it's not the jak and daxter theory part. Its the star wars part. As true as that is, I love the prequels. It hurts to see people shit on the anakin ark.
Jak is Mar theory?? Isn't that literally confirmed in Jak3? The little boy being son of deimos or whatever, the little boy is named Mar, he goes through a portal with the younger version of the Green sage. How's this a theory?
Yes we know Jak's real name is Mar, the theory I'm referring to is the debate we've been having since then, is Jak THE Mar that built Haven City? It was teased in Jak 3, but we never got a concrete answer, and it's been a big talking point ever since

Same. So much potential with a jak 4 and they let the lost frontier become what it is.

Cool stuff about Mar and all the items.
I love the part about mar walking with the precursors. If jak is mar, then that would make sense of factor being with him.
