Another great video Slades. I like to use silicone on my rubber components like seals and o rings and such. But I have learned from watching your videos that you can use dielectric grease on them. It’s really a matter of preference and I have no problem with someone using what they like a know. For the snap ring pliers you need you a good set. I recommend Knipex. Some of the other beetle people on here like them and I do too I use them when dealing with snap rings and have no issues now.
You’re right, everyone uses something different. The reason I use the dielectric grease is because it does not corrode rubber. After this video I ended up buying a new set from Lowe’s. And I really like these things. I saw them on one of my other videos I just can’t remember which one.

I was at Lowe’s today to get that 25mm socket you were talking about for the brake switch in your video and man the prices are outrageous I found one on eBay cheaper so I’ll probably just buy it. I need a good set of snap ring pliers too I’ll probably get the Knipex. Lowe’s didn’t have any near me.

I think the "spacer: is a retaining ring from the axle which likely needs to be repacked and rebuilt.
Great video Slade. Do you have any tips for pulling the flange out? One side came off easily but the other side is not playing nice. C clips are out on both. Thanks in advance.
On my son's Ghia project, he had all new brakes installed at a shop and at that time they replaced the transmission seals. After a couple months he had the car at a different shop and they found both seals leaking again. Any thoughts?
I would use a socket to drive in the seal so it distributes the impact evenly not to dent or bend the seal.

Hi , Love your vids. Did you only find one snap ring probably used as a spacer. I pulled the hubs off and found a snap ring on the floor not knowing what side the ring came off. I have both retainer rings this ring was extra not used for a retainer. Thanks so much . John

I’m going to have to do this on the 69... I just found out mine are leaking...I wish I would have known when I had the trans out.
I ended up talking with a friend of mine on the phone. And he said he had to pull his back out to replace them. I was staring at mine on the garage, and I thought I might as well do it. I know what would happen if I didn’t.

I am doing a bench-test on ‘71 engine that’s a 12volt system. Now i got a tranny-case with 6 volts bellhousing. Question: Can i use a 12volts starter on a 6 volts bellhousing without changing starter bushing? Will that be a problem? 🤕🤒
I have not owned a 6V system yet, but I did find a link here that might be very helpful to you.

usually it is the other way around, people leave the 6 volt starter there, and hit it 12v ...it's not 12 V continuiously, and it spins over really well...if you use an Automatic Transmission starter, I was told they are self supporting and the bushing is not that important due to the design...good luck

No unfortunately I don’t have those yet. What a great idea for my next one, the 68 I will be pulling in. I only have a video on the shifting rod bushing inside the tunnel.

Honestly you should. If not, you could end up with a mess.
