There's no time machine, but if you can get a good player piano going, you can still get a pretty close (and much more spooky) experience. There are actually people out there making digital copies of the rolls (with varying success) that can be played on modern players.
I wonder if any piano rolls of him playing Alkan were made? Fantastic performance. He manages to interpret to interpret it well at a truly shocking speed,
@@AndreiAnghelLiszt Lol, do you think it's an error? And I have a question for you, O'Lisztian scholar. What do you think of Tausig in comparison to Liszt as a pianist? Is there chance of him being as or more so technically sound, as reviews have it? Of course, apparently it's also said that Liszt still had grander musical ideas or some thing.
when you compare the play of Sirota to Busoni you can imagine how much of this here is real !!!! I don t think this tempo is too fast given by the pianoroll: I think its the original tempo. BUSONI HAD A GREAT TECHNIQUE.and was a great composer. His sens for the dance and rythm is obvious.
In the midst of all the technical analyses, one issue should supersede. This man knew Liszt personally. He will have observed, and discussed many aspects of phrasing, (particularly clear here)and technique with the Composer. I am thrilled to hear echos of a master that changed classical music so much. The clarity on this piano roll sounds better than wax to me!
I think Busoni only heard Liszt in concert when he was 12. If I'm not mistaken this was also the concert where Liszt performed with an injured finger, and Busoni remarked that Liszt did seem a little bit off. That said, Busoni certainly met and played for Liszt's pupils.
@RollaArtis I respect your opinion, but it's is widely recognized that Ferruccio Busoni was one of the greatest pianists of all time...i think it's a superhuman performance, because it's the only one i've ever heard that reminds me the polyphony of mozart's opera
it "lunges" - seems to be running too fast - -still very interesting and different where digestible - it could be slowed in an audio editor - if one only knew by how much..
I agree - Busoni was one of the greatest pianists etc. but pianists always sound superhuman at the wrong playback speed. This piano roll is running too fast and so the video here in no way represents his actual performance.
Yes there are many recordings of badly adjusted reproducing pianos. The playback of the original roll need not be laughable if those responsible for these travesties knew anything about music.
the problem is the piano roll, Busoni play like Rachmaninov or Prokofiev, maybe best (sorry for my english). Czerny, Busoni and Mendelson, the 3 best musician of the history
Damn ! I want to listen Busoni playing this LIVE !!
Need a time machine……😂😂

You, and all the rest of us!!!
i love how he takes the champagne aria at the actual tempo at which opera singers take it... very few pianists do this seems.
Whatever - with the discussions surrounding the speed of the Roll, this performance is of excellence.
I wonder if any piano rolls of him playing Alkan were made?
Fantastic performance. He manages to interpret to interpret it well at a truly shocking speed,
No, but his students Petri and Zadora made piano rolls of Alkan selections.
He didn't play it like this. The piano roll is surely sped up. Petri complained about the travesty that is these busoni piano rolls
@@sebastian-benedictfloreProve it
@@charlesthomas5956 the proof is in the roll. You can hear, can you not?
@@sebastian-benedictflore I just realized it a couple of days ago lol
Il Grande Busoni. Grazie .

Bussoni el más genio de todos los genios pianista.

it doesnt really sound sped up but its super fast
You sure? 10:52 doesn't sound sped up to you??
@@Numberonesorabjifan yeah ill admit that part is definitely not human, but the other parts just sound like a good piano player and not some machine
La ci darem seems to be about the right tempo.
It sounds not sped up to me
That's the case with most of his rolls. The Norma recording always makes me laugh.
Gran obra Lizst.
Siempre mi maestra me dijo que Ferruccio Busoni era un GRAN PIANISTA. Ahora Veo que ella jamás se equivocó.
More Faster Than Emil Von Sauer?!
is it speeded up?
No, the roll is tampered.

Czerni?
Mendelson?
NO. MIX.
comparing to busoni, cziffra was an amateur
Superhuman performance? I think not - the roll is running too fast. Whoever recorded this obviously has no musical sense.
it's too fast. orrible.
The roll is tampered.
It's worse than horrible. Recordings like this one perpetuate the idea that piano rolls are a bad joke.
It's really trash
The roll is damaged.
I doubt that this is genuine.
Mi sbagliavo, ascoltando busoni è lui il miglior interprete di questo quasi impossibile pezzo
