I've been sticking to G-Skill RAM for the past 7 years for the us of both desktops and laptops without any issues. However as an alternative choice if not available I go for Kingston's HyperX Fury RAM. This is my personal choice.
I'm having serious issues with my GIGABYTE G5-KF laptop. I'm getting frequent blue screens with errors: UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. Any advice?
Dont update the BIOS because reduce the performance of the equipment so that the charger does not saturate. So the solution is buy a new charger with 230w, i had the same problem and changed finally works perfect in max performance.
Hello! Thank you so much for the video, I just bought one and this helped a lot! Just one question. I checked the qualified vendor list for this laptop and Ripjaws do not seem to be included in it. Would this cause any issues? I was planning on buying a RAM upgrade from Corsair or HyperX but I'm hesitant due to the qualified vendor list. Is there a specific CL or timings it does not support? Also do you know if you need to turn on XMP profile for the correct timings?
Hello there. I personally did not have any issues with them, officially I can not say that would be best checked with the manufacturer. The XMP profiles can not be changed from what I found, the BIOS is extremely limited and locked. CL22 is what I have tested with and officially I know it supports it, any others I'm not sure as Gigabyte has not shared this info. Otherwise it supports up to DDR5-4800 as per Gigabytes official site.
Have you been able to access the real advanced bios to perform the IMON + AC loadline tweaks? The IMON tweak under reports CPU power draw so GPU will get max TDP via dynamic boost and because CPU thinks its using less power than it is, it'll draw more power. This lets both CPU and GPU use max TDP even when both are loaded. I found it greatly helps in very CPU and GPU demanding games like CP2077. Also have you propped up the laptop? I did all these tweaks to my nitro 5 and now it pushes an additional 40w or so in CP2077 and gets lower temps than stock. Gelid extreme is a pretty good paste. Not sure how long it'll last. Protip: Get some genuine PTM7950. Its a phase change material so it'll perform about on par with the best thermal pastes. But it'll stay effective for much longer.
Hello If I modify the RAM and SSD, do I still have a warranty? Because i bought this laptop 2 weeks ago and I have my doubts . I will be grateful if you describe .
@@1bbf169 Hello there, typically you should not void your warranty. But the only one that can confirm this for you is your vendor/shop that you bought the laptop from, so I advise you check with them first. Like with mine, I called the shop I purchased it from and asked them before doing it myself. As for the RAM you do not have the buy the same brand (as you see I upgraded it with G-SKILL, I do not like Crucial personally myeslf either), can be what you like but CL22 is preferred, not sure if other latencies work however
Hello there, I never used the Type-C as it was limited. So had it set up with HDMI and the mini-DP, and funny enough the mini-DP port one was the one running from the Nvidia GPU whilst the HDMI was from the Intel GPU for some reason
Hello there. Not sure what you mean by one or two sided m.2, as I'm not aware of such. An m.2 can only slot in one way because of its pins (just like RAM does) its the same as in a desktop motherboards m.2 slot. It uses a standard sized 2280 m.2 SSD. As for the heatsink, don't get one with a heatsink as I don't think it has enough space so you won't be able to close its cover, just get a regular one as I've shown the video, of course it doesn't have to be same brand.
Hello, i just recently orderes this laptop and want to upgrade just the RAM from the 8GB it is coming with to a 16gb stick. I'm a computer dummy and want to make sure on how to do it without damaging the computer or anything
Hello there! That should be pretty simple, I have it detailed in the video at 5:15. Also be sure to check with your retailer that upgrading the RAM doesn't void the warranty, it shouldn't (but different retailers have different policies)
I heard I can use a regular SSD 2.5 sat for most laptops. I have one 1 gb sat SSD 2.5 in my stationary computer. Would that fit? Looks like a different SSD you are using. Can someone explain?
For this particular laptop you can not use 2.5" SSD's as it only has m.2 slot (2 of them). So your current SSD from your desktop computer will not fit in this laptop. Thus you will need to purchase a m.2 SSD.
Hello, first of all, thank you very much for the informative video. I have a question about your repaste: it seems like it has to be spread by myself with a spatula or how did you do it? I would be very grateful for a few details (I only have experience with CPUs in a normal PC so far).
You're most welcome, happy to help. Otherwise I don't spread it with anything, when applying it a usually drop like 2-3 drops depends on how much you squeeze out, and when you put the radiator over it will spread it evenly. Even when repasting desktop CPU's I never spread, it will spread when you press the respective radiator/fan over afterwards
@@peteplayed Thank you for our fast reply. I wasn't expecting that this cooling construction puts enough pressure, so I can work with the pea method here too. @@icees2825 Yes, more than enough, especially when you screw it back on, its plenty of pressure. And yes the pea method would be more than enough, and yes plenty of region space for plenty of thermal paste, just don't over do it like they did :) sometimes less is more ;)

@@horvath.26 I mean about repasting. Dude, I bought this G5 KF laptop and it came with only 8GB of RAM. I checked the list of compatible RAMs and bought a memory identical to the one already installed in the laptop. The problem is that when I install two memories, the computer does not display video. I tried all possibilities; the computer turns on and works normally only if it has one memory installed. I made sure to test the memories separately and in different slots, and it always works when I install one at a time, regardless of which slot it is in, and which memory it is; it always works when there is only one. The problem is not in the slots or the memories because they all work separately, but when I install the two memories together, the laptop does not display video, nor can I even enter the BIOS. I’ve tried everything and nothing worked for me, the BIOS of this laptop is very limited, I don’t know what to do. I tried contacting Gigabyte support, but they didn’t help me at all. If you know something that could help me, I would be very happy, I don’t know what else to do. EDIT FIXED: I noticed that one of the pins in the laptop's memory slot was bent, it was so small that it was almost impossible to see. With a pin I carefully straightened it and thank god the memory was recognized and everything worked.
Never heard of such a problem for this laptop. It sounds like you have an actual hardware issue and this you should take up with your retailer that you bought it from and make use of that warranty as this sounds like an actual hardware issue. Btw, are the RAM the same speeds? Have you tried to pair them with another brand? If it doesn't work then too, I suggest you take it back to your retailer.
@peteplayed I don't think it's hardware problem cus I've tested the slots with different memory modules, and I've tried the modules separately. It always works when it's with one module installed. The memory modules are exactly the same, both are Crucial CT8G4SFRA32A.

Hi there, not really. But I usually go for G-Skill's or Corsair RAM and never had an issue personally regardless of the laptop I use them for. For the SSD, I went with SP this time just because I was in a rush and the Samsung was not in stock which I usually go for. ive updated to fb10, repasted using thermal grizzly kryonaut extreme and used ur throttlestop settings but im still getting 95-100 degrees and hitting thermal limit on core and ring in throttlestop and getting drops to 30 fps, what should i do next to resolve this problem?
Do you have any recommendations for ram on this laptop?
I've been sticking to G-Skill RAM for the past 7 years for the us of both desktops and laptops without any issues. However as an alternative choice if not available I go for Kingston's HyperX Fury RAM. This is my personal choice.
I'm having serious issues with my GIGABYTE G5-KF laptop. I'm getting frequent blue screens with errors: UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. Any advice?
Bro me too if u find an answer pls let me know
@@nexus0130 I called the Gigabyte USA support and they told me to update the BIOS to FB10, it works fine now.
Edit: Nope, same issue.
@@nexus0130 Hey bud, the issue was the Nvidia drivers, I updated them and now everything's fine.
Hello, does it affect the warranty if you open the backlid? Thanks!
Hello, this all depends on your retailer you bought it from, so best check with them.
Is it the same process with a G6 KF?
Depends which configuration you get.
I have one question about this model laptop , is it possible to upgrade display , maybe replace for compatible with higher resolution???
No such official option available to my knowledge.
Hello If I modify the RAM and SSD, do I still have a warranty? Because i bought this laptop 2 weeks ago and I have my doubts . I will be grateful if you describe .
And I have one more question did I have to buy identical ram like mark crucial and same delay like cl22

Hi Pete, which input is directly connected to the GPU? Is it the Type - C or the DP?
Hello there, I never used the Type-C as it was limited. So had it set up with HDMI and the mini-DP, and funny enough the mini-DP port one was the one running from the Nvidia GPU whilst the HDMI was from the Intel GPU for some reason
So, the direct connection to the GPU is from the mini DP? Thats crazy, thank you brother nice vid!
Hey Pete - can you tell me if this m.2 needs to be one sided or two sided, and if it needs a heat sink? Thanks
Are there both 2 nvme slots pcie gen4 x4 ?
I see like you installed gen3 ssd
Nope, they are not:

Hey pete. Wanted to ask if arctic silver 5 is a good option for thermal paste.
Yes it's not bad, Arctic's MX line is better than their Silver thought, But not by much, about 2-3 degrees in difference.
In addition it seemed to me from your pictures that the rectangular region is quite big. But if it's similar easy to pasting a PC CPU, I'm happy :)
@@icees2825 Yes, more than enough, especially when you screw it back on, its plenty of pressure. And yes the pea method would be more than enough, and yes plenty of region space for plenty of thermal paste, just don't over do it like they did :) sometimes less is more ;)
Do you have a video that shows you removing the cpu and repaisting ?
Do you know how thick is the thermal pad?
They ranged between 1.5mm to 0.5mm. In some places they are stacked and thicker to even out the difference between the different modules
@@peteplayed Thank you. I may need to replace the factory when I do the re paste.
Argh. Watched the whole video to see the breakdown for the thermal paste replacement. Can you describe what you removed for that?
Hello, there are timestamps noting each part. Otherwise I removed the radiator in the middle and two fans on the left and right (it's all one piece)
You can see the part during 8:10
Is there space for a 2.5" hdd
Nope, just m.2.
I just bought one a week ago and i have to say that my GPU temps are fine (both idle and in games) but CPU temps absolutely sky rocket to 95 degrees C while gaming. Should i try and repaste the CPU? (btw i use the same thermal paste:D).
Hey there, if you've got the latest Bios fw and don't wanna use TS, only thing left to do is to repaste yes. Just make sure to check if it's ok and does not void your warranty from where you got it. (it's a great thermal paste indeed :) )
Thankfully it does not void the warranty but I don’t really know how to update the Bios…I’ll have a look into it
@@horvath.26 I mean about repasting. Updating the bios can not void the warranty :) (well I'd be very surprised a retailer would say it would)
You can get the latest Bios from the manufacturers site: www.gigabyte.com/Laptop/G5--2023/support#support-childModelsMenu

The memory modules are exactly the same, both are Crucial CT8G4SFRA32A.

hi im planning to buy this laptop but the gigabyte g5 mf model, is there a recommended brand for ssd and ram
Hi there, not really. But I usually go for G-Skill's or Corsair RAM and never had an issue personally regardless of the laptop I use them for. For the SSD, I went with SP this time just because I was in a rush and the Samsung was not in stock which I usually go for. So in conclusion there isn't a recommended brand per say, but I'd deft say don't go for some "unknown brand" at least, hope this helps
lastly, is it necessary to remove battery connection first before upgrading and should I add thermal pads on the ram or ssd?
@@Luuuuuck By battery connection do you mean remove the battery pack in the laptop? No, however the power (AC adapter) must be disconnected of course as well as for the laptop to be turned off. Thermal pads can not and should not be added on a SSD or RAM. Hello, unfortunately not. Only DDR4
It's only way? I heard that updating software utilities solve the problems with high temperature
Hi there. I got it a week ago so mine already had the latest Bios installed, so therefore I had nothing to upgrade - software wise. I added the extra RAM because I've always had 32GB so I was going to do this regardless, not for the temps. However as you can see from the photo I added at 7:59 the thermal paste is applied very badly by default. They always do this, and I can't understand why and why they continue using cheap thermal paste. It was the same back in the day with my Acer Predator Helios 300. Huge improvement after I repasted it myself.
I of course can only speak for myself personally, after repasting the thermal paste I saw major improvement and to a normal range of temps, idle temps should not be 50c they should be 40c and below like you see it was after I repasted it. Hope this helps.

@@alexispariona7436 If you don't have high temps you don't really need to replace the thermal paste tbh, I usually re-paste every 2 years depending on how the performance/temps are. I knew the problems with this laptop before I bought, back in the day the Acer Predator Helios 300 1st gen was the same, bad thermal past application and I did the same when I bought that too. So I'm used to it. For this one (Gigabyte) I did not replace the thermal pads, as I saw no point, I just re-pasted it. Thermal pads are usually 1mm, I've only changed thermal pads on my Helios 300 as I had for almost 6 years and used 1mm ones, which look exactly the same as the ones on this Gigabyte.
In conclusion, if you don't have high temps or issues don't re-paste now and more so no need to go as far as changing the thermal pads either.
