How 2 Stroke Engine Works
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
- A two-stroke engine is a type of internal combustion engine that completes a power cycle with two strokes of the piston during only one crankshaft revolution. This is in contrast to a four-stroke engine that requires four strokes of the piston to complete a power cycle during two crankshaft revolutions.

The exhaust port should be drawn higher than the transfer ports. Typically it will open about 85 degrees ATDC and allow enough of the hot pressurized gasses to escape so that when the transfer ports open at about 115 ATDC, the fresh fuel air charge is at a slightly higher pressure and can push it’s way into the cylinder and head area.
You are number one! I've never met better animation on a two-stroke engine all over the web! Special greetings from me!
Thank you

Hello our friends. Are you still following us?
I love how similar circulatory systems are to mechanical systems. They have so many similarities.
Yes, exactly 👌. Don't forget to support us and subscribe please ❤️
There should be a pressure relief valve to compensate for the added compression under the Piston, this should increase HP output
Yeah just a little hole for air to escape or somthing
Wouldn’t it mess with the whole cycle in a negative way?
There's coolant and 2 stroke mix down there. What exactly are you proposing?
I remember watching this video years ago such a cool and great explanation!

One of the most robust 2 strokelawn mowers made was the Australian Victa Lawnmower. Because the carburettor was moveable on its stem or manifold they could be used regularly to power chicken pluckers.. small gensets especially 12volt units.. pencil grain augers.. cheap outboard powerhead replacement but not high performance..go karts..push bikes ..and the list goes on. While original version was only 125 cc they did experiment with a twin cylinder version of supposedly 250cc. Long live the Victa
Appreciate your comment 👍
Thank you so much. After watching several animations I’m finally understand the process based on what you’ve provided. Yours is the first animation to show the one-way valve that would have to be present at the intake port to pressurize crankcase during the down stroke
Thank you ❤
this is the only vid that could get a 2 stroke engine through my skull

Generally, there should be a baffle on top of the piston near the transfer port.

Excuse me Sr.
What does mean transfer port angle ?
For me it's the angle which the crankshaft turns while the gasoline on the crankcase goes to the top of piston. In this case the angle btween the TPO and the BDC.
Or this is the angle which the crankshaft turns between TPO and TPC ?
Because between BDC and TPC there's no fuel transfer, am i right ?
I really like your animation and explanation. Thank you for sharing. I love how two strokes they sound, how they run and how they are put together. That's probably why I have been bisecting and examining them for the last 25 years. Thanks for sharing this video! Craig
And this is why they are being phased out. Both intake and exhaust is open at the same time so there is always loss. Which create harsher emissions leading to engineers to phase them out to meet ever tightening emissions standards. Bummer. They make great power.

@@MechanicsX Why didn't you just show the more common loop scavenging type used today? There are no valves on the inlet port. Also, the inlet and exhaust ports are opposite each other.

Would it be possible to have a 2 stroke engine with its own oil in its crankcase separate from from the rest of the engine ? Therefore premixing of the fuel or an oil injector would be no longer necessary ?
How would lubrication get to the combustion chamber to provide the necessary seal for the piston rings?
@@tomobedlam297 This is my question also ; there is only one man I've ever spoken to , that spoke of this subject that he knew of through Italian technicians . He had once been informed of a company in Europe during WW11 that was trying to develop this subject . Most likely this company was under German Nazi control during WW11 . Personally I think a subject like this was probably then stolen and sold on the black market after WW11 and was then hidden by major engine companies so that it did not have a new competitor .
@@tomobedlam297 In my opinion the crankcase system would be a type of new developed "Dry Sump" idea .
@@johnh1001 Some more sophisticated 2 stroke engines use an oil injection system. I am not at all familiar with them but I imagine they have oil galleries in the con-rod, top and bottom end bearings, and the piston itself, which feed oil to the piston rings.
@@tomobedlam297 Hey , this sounds very familiar ! Oil galleries in the con rods ! Yes of course ! Main bearings being oiled the same as a 4 stroke idea . There must be others out there with this same idea ! I'm sure of it ! Similar to but not the same as the lube idea of the Wankel engine oiling the rotor and the Apex seals .
Good work bro
Nice explanation
This 2 stroke design is complecated. it should have an exh valve and stuffing box to prevent the intake air entering the crankcase.

Hi everyone, I am looking for a diagram or an explanation of the 2 stroke engine that was used in motor bikes for racing. The engine has 1 or 2 exhaust valves that shut off to hold more in the compression stroke. This is different to the power valve. Thank you
You are welcome
@@MechanicsX have you heard of the type of 2 stroke that I am referring to?
From Amrita college of engineering and technology 🤐
Nice
Sounds like Steven Hawking. lmao
For real kinda scary in today's world !!!
So 2 stroke doesnt use oil ?
The oil is mixed in with the fuel. You mix it in your gas can before you put it in. Newer ones have oil injection. When the fuel/oil mix is pulled through the crank case bellow the piston, the parts are lubricated.
nah, a 2 stroke burns all the oil you put in as a part of the normal operation. So it regularly consumes oil whereas in a 4 stroke the oil stays in the engine when you have to change it. If you have a 4 stroke in good working order at least. My lawn mower's engine is so old it basically burns all the oil you put in and its a 4 stroke.

So so far I'm hearing only advantages of the 2-stroke. Could you explain why cars use 4-stroke instead of 2-stroke?
junoguten Both the intake and exhaust ports are open at the same time so some of the fresh incoming air-fuel mixture escapes out with burnt exhaust resulting in poor fuel economy and high emissions. In recent years there have been efforts to improve 2 stroke concept to make them more green.
Sangyoon Kim Thanks :)
Because then cars would be too
annoying and loud.
A 2 stroke large enough to move even a small car would need to be huge, about 1000cc, requiring a complex cooling, ignition, lubrication and power coupling, thus negating the small light simple aspects of common 2 strokes. The emissions on a 4 stroke are also much better.
+junoguten its because the two stroke engine creates more harmful emissions that the typical four stroke engine.
Super bro

Air or water.
most likely air cooling by fins and fans is good enough for a 2 stroke engine.
Why fuel is not going to exhaust

it is actually 4 strokes engine. But its design is a bad design because it's verbose and not reliable when the piston moving fast inside the cylinder.
How fast? Two strokes are actually better suited for high rpm applications.

Нічо не понятно
Why?
I think two stroke wastes fuel
Being more fuel efficient means; In a 4 stroke outboard engine, fuel is consumed once every 4 stokes and hence it burns less fuel, making the 4 stroke engine more efficient and environmentally friendly compared to a 2 stroke engine, as 2 stroke burns fuel and oil mixtur
