How 2 Stroke Engine Works

  • A two-stroke engine is a type of internal combustion engine that completes a power cycle with two strokes of the piston during only one crankshaft revolution. This is in contrast to a four-stroke engine that requires four strokes of the piston to complete a power cycle during two crankshaft revolutions.

    The exhaust port should be drawn higher than the transfer ports. Typically it will open about 85 degrees ATDC and allow enough of the hot pressurized gasses to escape so that when the transfer ports open at about 115 ATDC, the fresh fuel air charge is at a slightly higher pressure and can push it’s way into the cylinder and head area.

    One of the most robust 2 strokelawn mowers made was the Australian Victa Lawnmower. Because the carburettor was moveable on its stem or manifold they could be used regularly to power chicken pluckers.. small gensets especially 12volt units.. pencil grain augers.. cheap outboard powerhead replacement but not high performance..go karts..push bikes ..and the list goes on. While original version was only 125 cc they did experiment with a twin cylinder version of supposedly 250cc. Long live the Victa

    Excuse me Sr.
    What does mean transfer port angle ?
    For me it's the angle which the crankshaft turns while the gasoline on the crankcase goes to the top of piston. In this case the angle btween the TPO and the BDC.
    Or this is the angle which the crankshaft turns between TPO and TPC ?
    Because between BDC and TPC there's no fuel transfer, am i right ?

    And this is why they are being phased out. Both intake and exhaust is open at the same time so there is always loss. Which create harsher emissions leading to engineers to phase them out to meet ever tightening emissions standards. Bummer. They make great power.

    So 2 stroke doesnt use oil ?

    • @nez3009
      @nez3009 5 лет назад +1

      The oil is mixed in with the fuel. You mix it in your gas can before you put it in. Newer ones have oil injection. When the fuel/oil mix is pulled through the crank case bellow the piston, the parts are lubricated.

    • @greego5952
      @greego5952 11 месяцев назад +1

      nah, a 2 stroke burns all the oil you put in as a part of the normal operation. So it regularly consumes oil whereas in a 4 stroke the oil stays in the engine when you have to change it. If you have a 4 stroke in good working order at least. My lawn mower's engine is so old it basically burns all the oil you put in and its a 4 stroke.

    • @henry2008kim
      @henry2008kim 9 лет назад +8

      junoguten Both the intake and exhaust ports are open at the same time so some of the fresh incoming air-fuel mixture escapes out with burnt exhaust resulting in poor fuel economy and high emissions. In recent years there have been efforts to improve 2 stroke concept to make them more green.

      A 2 stroke large enough to move even a small car would need to be huge, about 1000cc, requiring a complex cooling, ignition, lubrication and power coupling, thus negating the small light simple aspects of common 2 strokes. The emissions on a 4 stroke are also much better.

    • @killerontherun0

      Being more fuel efficient means; In a 4 stroke outboard engine, fuel is consumed once every 4 stokes and hence it burns less fuel, making the 4 stroke engine more efficient and environmentally friendly compared to a 2 stroke engine, as 2 stroke burns fuel and oil mixtur
