I think it is a great compliment of one great band covering another. I only wish more great musicians like white strips would cover YYY songs. YYY have such great music to cover.

I totally understand megs minimalist drumming for their original songs, i'm not one of those critics, but for Maps, its the drums in part that 'make' the song. I wonder why she didn't add something more to this song. This is one of the few white stripes covers i don't care for, for that very reason.
everybody keeps complaining over and over how there are no good bands anymore and with the yeahs and white stripes i beg to differ. this is the best love song EVER and the stripes capture it's power.

But sometimes, the cream still manages to find its way to the top, even if it's just for a brief moment. When I heard the original version, it kinda blew me away. It was one of those I listened to over and over. And the first time I heard/saw it was on MTV, no less... Of course, it was in the middle of the night/early morning. But they played a few good ones before they finally just gave up. Like Florence and the Machine, and a few other good ones around that time.
They've done this song well, not calling Meg an awful drummer like most do but because of her simplicity, they've made a good job of it. In my opinion both versions are brilliant and The White Stripes are my favourite band and I've only just found this cover!
Yeah, other drummers are called genius because of what they don't play... Guess you have to have a huge kit but only use a couple pieces to not be terrible... 😒 Her sound was a huge part of it, she doesn't get the credit she deserves.
I think megs drumming goes perfect with jacks guitar and if someone else drummed for the white stripes half of the creativity would vanish, and we'd be left with another band doing the same thing as everyone else.
I gotta admit, I kinda like the crowd's singing along with Jack here. Not as good as the original, but that's often the case, and both bands are great, but the YYY's version is so crisp with the drums and and had Karen O's voice, which is good all of the time, but she nails the song and brings it home.
jack white not be playing impossible to play licks but the fact is he's a good song writer. all his stuff is so catchy. like seven nation army? as a guitar player i cant even begin to wrap my head around how no one came up with that line before or used it to nearly the same extend,

A cover of a song is a tribute to that song, not a challenge. And it by no means has to sound the same. Every cover I see/hear on youtube I see people commenting "the original is so much better". Well guess what? This isn't the original, it's not meant to be. Why would anybody try to duplicate something that already exists in a perfectly good state? If you want to hear the original, LISTEN TO IT! Otherwise let other artists cover these great songs.

i donno i personally think a good many of their songs could be improved with better drumming and for how much she plays, how long she has played and how much money she has gotten for playing she should be waaaay better than she is plus not is she "not the greatest drummer in the world" but she's not even close to average, she's where most people would be after a few months of playing
I think it sounded good. I mean, I'm sure if they had this professionally recorded and were super serious about it it'd be 10,1000 bajillion times better. Also this sound quality isn't that great either, no offense to whoever recorded this so you can't really base how good they're playing their instruments or jacks singing. Maybe he wanted to sing it that way also. Idk, just my opinion.
i'm not even really into drums and to be honest i don't have a damn clue who the names you mentioned are. but listen to "girl you have no faith in medicine". the song could sound so much better with some drums that actually went along with what jack's doing. and i dont think she should be hacking away at the drums as fast as possible, i can't stand when the drums just dominate songs.
i really don't think you've give the stripes older first few albums a good enough of listen if you think none of their other songs aren't distinct. what about "we're going to be friends", "broken bricks", "fell in love with a girl", and "cannon"? i mean if you just said that you just plain dont care for the white stripes that would be fine and understandable. but to say jack white is a joke is just plain wrong

Considering that everyone covers the whitestripes ( AND I MEAN EVERYBODY) It should be the hugest compliment when they cover your song.
